I have had a ringworm for awhile now and I ha1e tried a cream, doctor recommended, and it didn't work. I had read before from another site about using sea salt. So I tried it. I bandaged the salt onto the ailment and left it so for about an hour and a half and already there is some results. This remedy does burn, but if you can withstand it for as long as possible, you will be rewarded.

Good results, here, too, in FL. Lawn work will usually get "ringworm" on your feet or legs.

Pick an area where it's salt water, not brackish, on the flats in the Intercoastal waterway or a bay that doesn't get much run-off. Protect your feet (from oysters / shells), explore the coast and/or find a deeper spot to swim or soak in (away from boat traffic). Probably the more stuff that gets stirred up the better. It may be ewwy gooey, but it works.

I've had the sea fix it in 3 hours, consistently. The other alternatives are the over-the-counter remedies that take 6 weeks (and often fail), or the doctor prescribed systemics (2 weeks), had that fail too.

Stay OUT of low salt brackish areas, especially in the rainy season. Run-off gets in there, and it's not the sea you're swimming with, anymore.

I had a small outbreak of ringworm after working at a feral cat sanctuary after only 1 day, needless to say that the fungus is highly contagious.. Anyhow, the woman at the sanctuary told me she was applying coconut oil to the cats to treat the ringworm.

When I had it, I started to apply the coconut oil. Next day, it got bigger. Tried it again, and again it got bigger. My sister recommended putting iodine, it didn't make it go away, but also didn't make it get bigger. I started thinking to myself.. ok, fungi like moisture, no wonder the oil is making it spread, the iodine doesn't quite dry it out, so what dries things out...salt!

I took a bottle cap that was roughly the same size as the ringworm, filled it with salt, and put just enough warm water to melt it into a pasty liquid form, I then stuck the whole lid onto the ringworm and let the salt paste soak into it for 5-10 minues (can tape it on so it doesnt move). Then I took it off, let it dry, and reapplied it later, few times a day. The fungus dried up in 2-3 days and was completely gone, though the new skin needed a week or so to heal the pigmentation.

Hello again! I've been noticing something lately, regarding minerals in general and salt in particular. I read in the June 2, 2009 newsletter on the website about a woman who emailed a story from when she was a girl. She wrote of problems they had with cattle in. Apparently, the cattle became very sick. The woman writes, "The cow's developed large ankles and were dying from water retention due to heart problems.".

Investigation showed that the only thing that had changed was the salt licks they had put out for the cattle. The new licks were made with processed salt. they returned to the natural salt licks and the problems went away.

I have long felt that taking substances out of their natural context and using them as medicine is very dangerous. In their natural state, as with herbs, specific natural remedies are used for specific problems and parts of the body. Many herbs contain the same or similar substances but react on different parts of the body. As if the herbs contain the proper balance of nutrients with which to tell the body where to apply the herbs properties, in what combinations, how much to use and how to get rid of excess nutrients and resulting toxins.

I also suspect that the combination of elements in their natural state allow the body to get more benefit from very small amounts of nutrients than we can get by taking supplements in large amounts that have been taken out of their natural context.

I've written several times about the watercure and am now wondering if it is the unprocessed sea salt that is working all of the miracles. Granted, we need water, but using unprocessed sea salt after years of bad salt followed by no salt - as directed by physicians when symptoms such as those shown by the cattle present - can and often has worked miracles, often instantaneously.

Just a thought. You can file this under theories. I wrote it after reading:

"[QUESTION] 10/28/2009: Dennis from Seattle, Wa writes: "I'm trying magnesium chloride/distilled water for stiffness and lack of flexibility in legs/hips. Pitting edema is present. Salt is a problem with edema. Do you think the transdermal method with magnesium chloride would not be harmful to aggravation of the edema and still ease the muscle tissue stiffness and tension?"

I suspect Dennis is suffering from salt (and the accompanying minerals in natural salt) deficiency.

geez - i once had a seizure and went to the ER. when they took my blood and tested it the doctor came to me and asked if i ever ate salt. i rarely did and told him so. he told me i needed to that i had a sodium deficiency! i use unprocessed sea salt today :)

Salt Scrub

Can anyone suggest salt body scrub recipes that are homemade (hence cheap and control what go in them). I do not want to pay $20 per jar in the stores.

Salt scrubs in general are very helpful in shifting the enErgy of the etheric / bio-plasmic body which in turn speeds up healing time from pretty much anything.

Hey T from Houston..... Probably an online search would yield many sites offering essential oil and herbal homemade recipes. I don't use salt but have used granulated sugar - 1 cup - with a Tablespoon or two of almond oil or grapeseed oil; scented with the essential oil of your choice, it's a very nice scrub! Stir prior to each use..... Janice Cox has some great reads re: homemade products. Have Fun!

I used to make a good salt scrub with sea salt, olive oil, raw honey (for moisturizing) and essential oils. Have used coconut oil too.

Is the sea salt taken in water or do you take it dry on a spoon? I doubt I could get it down if I had to take it "straight"

I put my salt in a liter bottle with water and sip on it throughout the day. I use an aluminum water bottle-I think it is best to avoid plastic. Of course, you can always just sprinkle more on your food, too.

I wouldn't use an aluminum water bottle... Get one of those (inexpensive) BP-free plastic bottles.

I occasionally take sea salt as a "broth-like" drink. I mix 1/2 tsp light grey celtic sea salt (use unrefined salt) with spring water. Heat water (don't boil) on stove and add salt and about 1/2 cup of spring water then drink - you can use coffee cup size cup. Nice before bedtime.

Actually salt corrodes aluminum. And all available plastics are petroleum based which have MANY toxic elements in them besides just BPA. Try drinking from a glass bottle. I know it's heavy, but so are the Burdens of ill health! God Bless! Ingrid

I of course, love this site, and after months of being adicted to it, I have amassed a great deal of knowledge, enough to know how much I don't know!
My question pertains to Ted's recommendations of using sea salt. I have switched to sea salt for all salt useage, but wonder if it is necessary to always mix it with water? Can I just use it for all my salt needs? I'm sure I use at least 1/4 tsp a day, which is what Ted recommends to mix in 1 ltr of water. Anyone know?

There were a couple of posts above yours that you may find interesting. In one the writer stated that the only use sea salt to salt their food, etc. but your body also needs iodine. In another post the writer stated that by brushing iodine tincture, Lugol's or Betadine on the bottom of your feet and heels your body will absorb the iodine transdermally. Your nose running and liquidy, means that you have too much iodine in your body. They suggest that now instead of brushing their feet daily, they only do it every 4 to 5 days, but you would need to decide what is best for your own situation.

Sea Salt baths have almost cured my eczema in a matter of weeks. Get a good one that has minerals and put about 3/4 cup into the tub. I've also started taking iodine tablets.

Hi TED, I was surprised to read about sea salt today. could it be used for energy? emotional disturbance (mood swing)?stomach idigestion? if yes how much per day? also I read that you recommend in case of urine track infection 2 teaspoon of sea salt, but can you please say how to take it? with water or what? and how much? Thank you

Take 2 teaspoons of the sea salt and add it to 4 cups of lukewarm water. Stir and drink in one sitting preferably.

I would like to know if you can take SEA SALT daliy. Say if I wanted to put some in my water throughout the day. I eat healthy and dont use table salt. Any salt/sodium I get is whatever is in the food I am eating.

But after reading how good this Sea Salt is for you I would like to know how much Sea Salt I can use daily if I am drinking say about 72 ounces of water daily.

I was thinking maybe 1/8 or 1/4 of a teaspoon in about 12oz of water a couple of times a day???

i do this sometimes. i just put a pinch of sea salt into my drinking water. the reason i started doing this was a few times when i got blood work done - the doctor asked me: don't you eat any salt? he said i was sodium deficient! i have never heard of that - but i realized that i really don't hardly ever eat fast food and i don't use much salt in my cooking - so i try to get my sodium this way. if anyone knows why this shouldn't be done... please write! thanks

There are new findings just reported about the benefits of low sodium intake. Here are 2 short articles that may clarify it.

I never add sodium to our foods--we too avoid processed foods and eat primarily a fresh vegetarian diet.

Slightly low sodium levels in the blood are usually related to fluid and water imbalance. If you are fairly healthy, avoiding salt shouldn't be unsafe for you unless you are exercising heavily in hot weather.

(I also see this, clinically, in older people.)

You can probably get the trace 'sea salt amounts' of magnesium, calcium, etc from the vegetables you are eating

More of a concern is iodine deficiency:

We use a "sprinkle on" kelp supplement to add the iodine that we miss by not using table salt.

I would suggest taking a non-refined sea salt. I like gray Celtic sea salt, and pink Himalayan salts. They have other minerals and are not just sodium chloride. Watch out for refined salts as they do raise sodium levels, but natural raw salts help balance sodium in the body.

Salt has been a terribly maligned nutrient for many years. As a result, many people are on no salt diets and it is dangerous. Avoiding salt completely eventually throws the electrolytes out of balance.

My parents live at a senior community that has no salt meals. My mother was admitted to the hospital in arrest. She had "almost no detectible sodium" that caused horrible swelling because of excess potassium. This symptom is always assumed to be caused by excess sodium!

The key is that we need a balance of minerals, and that is the beauty of sea salt. My parents now carry the Redmond shaker to their meals.

Same kinda thing happened with the modern sat fat/cholesterol - atherosclerosis - heart disease myths got created a few yrs back, so FDA & USDA began recommending "low fat diets" by substantially reducing or eliminating high fat foods like eggs, beef, pork, dairy ---that is, all the quality protein foods in our diets. So what happens when you don't get enough protein? An entire host of premature diseases especially those associated with immune function.

I am currently using the Sea Salt and Himalayan Pink Salt which make foods taste sooo much better than the industrial iodized stuff.

Lately, having seen microscopic pictures of table salt, sea salt, and himalayan sea salt, I've opted for himalayan sea salt's live crystals, called sole (so-lay) when dissolved in spring water. I'm impressed with my increased vitality since I've been bathing in it (see for benefits including magnesium chloride absorption). I bet it has great antibiotic properties.

Being a yoga teacher I am also advising of the benefits of neti, using himalayan sole, in which you inhale it through one nostril and exhale it through the other. I do notice increased benefit over regular sea salt, again increased vitality and calmness, a sense of well-being. I guess that steam inhalation would have even more benefits for bronchitis or asthma. Another benefit I enjoy is less stress from time spent on the computer when I burn a beeswax candle in a himalayan sea salt container, supposedly removing negative ions and electro-magnetic damage. I plan on buying a few lamps in different colors for their color therapy.

This is a follow-up to my earlier post. After posting my comments I decided to modify my regimen for arthritis and chronic constipation to the following: Still one teaspoon Celtic Grey Organic Sea Salt on an empty stomach each morning in a 16 oz bottle spring water, followed by a 10oz cup of spring water, with the juice of one fresh squeezed lemon, I teaspoon ACV, 1/8th Teaspoon Organic Cayenne, and an optional teaspoon of either Organic Agave, or Organic Grade B Maple Syrup for taste. I just tried a cup using the Organic Blue Agave I purchased at Trader Joe's, and the taste was quite good. It's best to avoid fluoridated water it you can, that's why I use the bottled Spring Water. I will probably add a second cup of the tea a bedtime. Will post again after a few months to advise how well it worked.

Magnesium is very important for solving constipation problems. Some people take 400 to 600 mgs. I don't always take that much, but I do make sure I have plenty of magnesium. I also squirt a little magnesium oil on me.

I just completed the 10-day Master Cleanse after suffering from arthritis and chronic constipation for the past several months. By day 3 of the cleanse the 2 teaspoons of Sea Salt in 32 oz of Fluoride free water every morning (on an empty stomach) really made a difference. My constipation cleared up, and the arthritis in my lower back, hip, and knees really improved. After reading the posts from all of you I am going to try drinking a 16.4 oz of spring water with 1 teaspoon Sea Salt, and two Tablespoons ACV in it, and see how that works. Ron

Water cannot do its thing without salt. Salt is number 3 on the list of things you can't live without. 1 and 2 are air and water. I suspect that if you do not take salt (preferably unprocessed sea salt) the body will break down the calcium in the bones to get at the salts they contain. I've done a lot of research on dehydration but have not seen this correlation anywhere. It is merely my suspicion due to the relationship between chronic dehydration combined with low salt intake teachings and the epidemic of osteoporosis. It is suspected that over 75% of people in the US are chronically dehydrated which means that 75% of the human bodies in the US are operating in emergency, water rationing mode. Sipping doesn't count and neither do other liquids. The body does not process other liquids the same way it processes plain water on an empty stomach. Water is used by every system in the body. Including the process it must go through to steal water from the colon. My personal rule of thumb is that any liquid that is not plain water belongs to the colon.

Hi, Cindy. Thank you very much for this information.Can you please tell me how much sea salt you add to your water and how many times you would drink this each day? Also, how would you factor in the sodium that a typical person eats on a day to day basis? Granted that the source is probably mostly iodized salt... but how often would you drink the water/sea salt? Thank you in advance.

The Water Cure Recipe:

Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily. Example 180 lb = 90 oz. of water daily. Divide that into 8 or 10 oz. glasses and that's how many glasses you will need to drink, daily. Use 1/4 tsp. of salt for every quart of water you drink. Use salt liberally with food. As long as you drink the water, you can use the salt. Avoid caffeinated or alcoholic drinks. These are diuretics and will dehydrate you. Every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you.

In the morning, I mix 1Tbl ACV with a pint of water, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. I put it in a bottle and drink it throughout the day. I repeat the prosedure in the afternooon, so I drink 2 pints a day. It cures everything (my acne, sore throat, stomach ache, dry skin, sore joints...etc) I've been doing this for 3 months, and have dropped 7.5 kilograms! I <3 water! Be sure to mix it with salt and vinegar, so you don't lose vital nutrients, and sodium!
