Blackstrap Molasses for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Blackstrap Molasses for Heavy Menstruation

Blackstrap Molasses is an effective natural remedy for heavy menstrual bleeding. Additionally, blackstrap molasses is a popular treatment for anemia, which is often a result of heavy periods. And blackstrap molasses has helped many women with fibroids, which is often a cause of heavy periods! It is possible to kill three birds with one proverbial stone with the natural remedy.

How Much Blackstrap Molasses Should I Take for Heavy Periods?

Some women find that as little as one or two teaspoons a day is enough to reduce the amount of blood lost each month. Other women take as much as one or two tablespoons each day. It is always best to start with a smaller amount and increase a little each day or week so that you can see how a remedy suits your system. Start with one or two teaspoons each day.

Blackstrap molasses is like an all natural vitamin supplement. But blackstrap molasses is better than a single nutritional supplement. The components in food supplements work together - the whole is better than the sum of the parts.

How Do I Take Blackstrap Molasses for Heavy Periods?

Some women take blackstrap molasses all month long. It can take time for the nutrients to build back up in the body. Other women find that they only need to take it during their period.

Blackstrap molasses can be taken right off the spoon. It can be added to coffee, milk, or a smoothie. It can be mixed into oatmeal or cream of wheat.

Look for an unsulphured brand of blackstrap molasses.

Blackstrap Molasses for Heavy Menstrual Bleeding: Cautions

If you have diabetes and you add blackstrap molasses to your diet, be sure to monitor your blood sugar carefully and don't start taking blackstrap molasses by the tablespoons. See how your body handles the molasses. While some people find it helps their diabetes, others find that it makes it worse.

If you are counting on blackstrap molasses to build up the iron you lose during your cycles, consider taking it with orange juice and not milk. The vitamin C in the the orange juice helps the iron in the molasses to be absorbed, while the calcium in the milk may hinder its absorption.

I have been experiencing light vaginal bleeding every day for two months. Today I decided to add a tablespoon of molasses to my ginseng tea and within the hour I felt that I wasn't bleeding anymore, checked and it was true! I wasn't expecting it and nor did I take add the molasses for this issue. I simply had a "taste" for it for some reason and pulled the jar out of the back shelf of the pantry. I am going to continue adding it to my various herbal tea (I normally do not add sweetner) to see if the issue continues to cease.

If you have a lot of female bleeding, it usually points to a lack of D vitamin, so one would need to take maybe one cod liver a day. It works.

How long does one have to take the cod liver to stop bleeding? How much should be taken?

My local store does not have blackstrap molasses. Can I use the Brer Rabbit unsulphured molasses until I can order blackstrap from Amazon? Thoughts?

I've been bleeding for six weeks and I would love to try this as an alternative.

Like almost everyone else at first I was a little skeptical on trying this, but my periods have been out of control my whole life. I am 28 now and if I am not on birthcontrols I would probably bleed for 4 months straight. But even with the birthcontrols it only usually makes me stop bleeding for 2 weeks if im lucky, heavy and sever clotting from beginning to end changing a Ultra tampon every hour and close to causing an accident everytime. So I kept doing my research and found out about the blackstrap molasses so it didnt hurt to try especially costing less then 4 bucks here in NY. I started taking it twice sometimes 3 times a day when I had those heavy days that I could barely get out of bed. I also drink raspberry leaf tea 2 times a day with it.

To my surprise by the 2nd day on it my period started getting a little lighter by the 4th day it was gone. This has been the only remedy that has been able to stop these ever lasting periods and I live by this now every menstrual cycle. I currently started my period 2 days ago so started taking both again today. lets see how long its going to take to stop because my birthcontrols have not given me a period in 3 months so this is going to be a bad cycle this time.

I was having heavy bleeding w clots soaking thru super plus tampon every hour and a half. I saw post about organic unsulphered black strap molasses went to health food store to get some. Took a tablespoon, it worked right away, the next tampon change was less than half the amount and continued to dwindle. I am going to take a tablespoon before bed as recommended. The only other thing I did was relax, feet propped up and did 15 min ice pack on abdomen once. I will be telling everyone about this remedy for sure!

I also have fibroids, but so far the BSM isn't helping me. At first I took the regular molasses, I had picked up the wrong bottle, and the regular molasses seem to lessen the bleeding a lot more, even went almost 2 days without bleeding, once I learned I was taking the wrong molasses, I purchased the BSM, but it isn't helping as well as the regular molasses. Anyone know why that would be both were unsulfered? Are you still taking it, and not bleeding?

Every month I was faced with extremely heavy flow. I'd normally bleed for 7 days and was super careful of how I planned the days that I knew I'd flow the heaviest -in order to avoid super embarrassing incidents....

I read about blackstrap molasses on this site and decided to give it a shot. I figured even if it didn't help reduce my flow- it'd help keep my iron levels up as I've battled anemia for decades..

Well, I started about a week before my period was due-with a tablespoon twice a day mixed into hot coffee or tea in the morning and at night. And once my flow began I noticed it was considerably lighter in volume. I was quite happy with that! But lo and behold- it stopped completely after just FOUR DAYS!!

I'm sooo happy to have found this remedy!!! I tell everyone that'll listen -try blackstrap molasses for monstrous menstrual flow!!

Sookiec, BSM won't hurt so you can probably do a Tablespoon a day safely.

You can also read up on cayenne and on sage tea for slowing/stopping the flow.

Did the BSM help you? I've been on the BSM pills for almost 2 weeks didn't do anything for me, now I got some in the jar to try, started it yesterday with ACV & baking soda. For four years I have been dealing with this never ending period. I will try things that will work for a little while, then stop. I went for an ultrasound, the Abdominal showed 7mm uterine lining, and the vaginal showed 12mm. They didn't know where I was in my cycle to say if it was normal or not. It showed I had 2 small fibroids & 2 small cysts. My Dr. didn't seem worried, come back in a few months to recheck. I use to have clockwork periods every 28 days until I hit 48. I miss those days.

I just wanted to say how truly amazed I am. I just started to take Blackstrap Molasses (BSM) on Friday, Oct 9th and I'm really impressed with the outcome. I've suffered with heavy bleeding for a few years now due to fibroids. It has caused me to be severely anemic and fatigued. A few months ago it was so bad I needed a blood transfusion. I was heading to work last week and I was searching for remedies for heavy bleeding and found this website Earthclinic. I read every single comment about BSM and said I will definitely give it a try and let's just say I am not disappointed. I thank God for leading me to this website and also thank all the ladies who posted a comment. I wish you all the best and I will repost again shortly. Peace and blessings!

Update: I started taking 1 tsp BSM twice a day in August 2014 with immediate results (I had a period that lasted 20 days; took BSM that night and day 21 bleeding stopped completely). I continued to take it until ten days ago when I decided to try DIM-Plus supplement instead, just to see what would happen. My period started yesterday with awful cramps and lots of clotting, which I hadn't seen since August. I was bleeding very heavily as well. I took a tablespoon of BSM, and this morning, I am not bleeding at all! I am sure I will before it's over, but I am convinced that the BSM helps to control the amount of bleeding and the clotting. I read that the DIM-Plus takes a while to be effective. I am going to experiment with continuing to take it daily, and just taking BSM on the days I actually have my period.

I have been trying BSM for the past few weeks, prior to my period starting to see if it would alleviate pain and heavy flow. Well, my period started and I'm on day 3 and honestly the flow is a lot heavier than usual. I had to get up several times at night from the clotting and flooding. I am just curious if it takes a few months to regulate or to see a difference?? It seems so many users have good luck with this method and I don't want to give up, but also do not want my cycle to be worse than it already is. I have been taking about a tsp of BSM (plantation brand unsulphered) in the morning and then during my period I have added 1-2 more in the am .I also take ACV regularly in the morning.

I also started this remedy because I tend to spot in between periods and right before and right after. And of course my periods are also pretty heavy and painful and more so as I get older. I am 41 year old female, no children.

I know some women have mentioned adding the baking soda? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It seems so many women start taking BSM and see an instant change. I would love to hear if anyone had luck with it, but more over a gradual time?

Thanks!

Dear Lmwb,

I am so sorry you are having this trouble.

Yes, it could take some time for what you are doing to help.

You can also take Shepherd's Purse for the acute bleeding. Or Cayenne Pepper. Or Liquid Chlorophyll. (I used to take about a Tablespoon an hour for heavy bleeding and it really helped.)

Some other things that may help would be less animal products in the diet and more vegetables and fruits.

There is also a tincture that you could make or buy with several herbs that are very helpful for regulating the female system.

http://healingtools.tripod.com/femtonic.html

I made some of this a few months ago and have been taking it and am finding it helpful. I am 47 and have never had cycles this regular in my whole life.

Everyone is different. It can be a lot of trial and error until you find what helps you best. I hope you find what helps you best soon.

Have been taking Blackstrap Molasses (BSM) for one month now for heavy bleeding. Today is my first day of periods.. Half the day was ok but just saw some heavy clots again. Makes me worried. Had 3 spoons of BSM today diluted in water every 3 to 4 hrs. Do I need to try apple cider vinegar (ACV) now along with BSM? I'm a 40 yr. old woman and have 2 tiny fibroids.

Hi, While you are bleeding heavily, as a quick cure take Apple Cider Vinegar 1 tablespoon in water, say 3 to 4 times a day, best to drink thru a straw. Eventually you need to address your hormone imbalance x

Hi, After having heavy periods with clots, for quite sometime, also recently having bloated stomach. I decided to search online for remedies to reduce my bloating, molasses was one of the remedies, fortunately I remember I have a bottle at home for quite sometime. However I decided to use a teaspoon, each morning until my peroid came. What I realise with this period I have no cramps, my flow reduced. And less clotting, am feeling so happy that I don't have to be bothered by the heavy flow. I can see and feel the big difference.

I'm replying to my post for the remedy of heavy periods with clots and would like to say that BSM just works wonders for you if you're in my situation. I' 40 yrs. old and have 2 small fibroids.. Which could not have caused me the bleeding that I had this time (full of clots) but no matter I tried the BSM and it helped immediately plus gives me the energy that I wasn't getting from iron supplements. I would highly recommend the product. Thanks to earth clinic for saving me to suffer!! Highly recommended.

Hi everyone, just wanted to share my story. I had extremely heavy bleeding, terrible cramps, cold sweating, constant vomiting issues and really bad back pain due to my menstruation cycle. I used to miss work because I couldn't move due to the severe pain. I tried every tablet I knew of for menstrual cramps and pain. Been to the doctor several times and was put on iron tablets. I nearly died because of bad reaction to the different drugs. I was about to give up when I bounced up on this site. I decided to use the blackstrap molasses and the coconut oil recipes. I drank 1/2 tbsp blackstrap molasses in a glass of lemongrass tea once in the morn and once at night. During the day I took 2 tbsp pure coconut oil. I began 2 days before my menstrual cycle begun. When my menses came, I was so shocked, the pain was less, there was no heavy flow, I did not have to take any tablets and there was no vomiting. I was moving about freely! For all the women out there who are experiencing what I went through and worsen don't give up. Different things work in different ways for the human body. Try them cause you never know what ease you will get!

I tried the equal parts unsulfered organic BSM, unrefined organic coconut oil, and organic peanut butter to try to lighten my period. I started a few days before the period began. This is day two and it's very heavy. So it has not had any immediately noticible effect. It did not seem to affect my energy level either. But it does make a nice snack. And seems to help somewhat with constipation. I cannot tolerate carbohydrates or grains, so it may be related to that rather than iron deficiency. Or I have a reduced ability to absorb the iron. I did not try taking it with vitamin C.

Hi, With Bsm it needs to be the non sulpher organic type and most of have to take atleast 1 large tablespoon atleast 3 times a day- drink lots of water too. Another remedy which could be easier for some people is a small glass of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it at least 3 times a day (drink through a straw). Honestly these work and it is amazing- I think if you are not seeing results then take more- both of these work for me- I prefer the ACV at the moment and sometimes as baking soda but it works without- good luck

I tried BSM on the first day of my period last month and I didn't notice any different, I continued to take it every day 1 teaspoon with my coffee or green tea until I got it this month. The first 2 days was just brown spotting but I was happy until the third day I started to bleed and it is horrible and still going on till today. I actually think the BSM made it worse. It's heavier and there is more pain and nothing is working for the pain. And yes the BSM is unsulphured.

I'm so upset and I give up, BSM has helped so many people nearly everyone on this site says it helped them but it didn't help me. Thank you for all your advice and help but I've decided to stop taking the BSM and if I can find ACV with mother then I will start on that, does anyone know where I can find some ACV with mother in Melbourne?

My story is I have been suffering with severe heavy bleeding and have a fear of leaving the house while on my period because of how hard it is to handle. I don't know what to do with my life. I constantly feel weak and tired and am afraid to apply for a job because I will need to stay at home 9 days a week while I have my period. I have seen many specialists but they all say that I am normal and this is just how my body is.

I tried Blackstrap molasses and it made me feel a lot calmer however it did not help with the bleeding. I live in Australia and the only one I found was Blue Label unsulphured blackstrap molasses. I used it on the first day of my period and it has been 5 days and I haven't noticed a difference at all except for me feeling a lot calmer.

I was so excited to try it but now I feel horrible, what if it doesn't work for me, what do I do then? I'm going to keep trying it maybe my body needs more time to adjust to it. I take it with one teaspoon in my green tea or coffee. Does anyone know why it's not working for me and if there are other brands to try that are in Australia?

I will let you know how I go next month. Thank you for your time.

Nicole from Melbourne, Victoria Australia, HELLO! Sorry to hear about your issue. I have suffered tremendously with the same issue and below are few things that shifted this in me...

1. Standard Process Ovex-P (available on Amazon).

2. Fermented Cod Liver Oil several tablespoons upto 4 per day especially at beginning of period. Rest of the month you can do 1-2 tablespoons per day. Get the best quality because it makes a huge difference.

3. Eat raw foods during your period which will cut down the quantity of blood loss as well as reduce number of days. When I eat raw my period last 5 days about medium blood flow. On cooked foods, I will bleed upto 15 days with very heavy flow.

4. Additionally I use dandelion tea through the month 1 cup daily to keep liver clean.

5. Foods with probiotics like homemade kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut (all with live bacteria) have helped tremendously. Please google how to make these cheaply at home.

6. ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) Raw with mother - 2 tablespoons in 1. 2 cup lukewarm water with raw honey 2-3 times during period (and you can continue rest of the month too) great in balancing PH levels of body and will reduce blood flow tremendously.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Good luck, Tina

Hi Nicole, if you are like me and have heavy mensturation then it is very important that you get your blood checked every couple of months for iron levels. We can deplete our stores very quickly and low iron can lead to continuous bleeding. Coffee, tea, wine, chocolate can all affect iron absorption too whereas vitamin c helps it. I am on iron tablets again but I can testify that unsulphered black strap molasses really works- I take a teaspoon of Bsm followed by a small glass of water then repeat this in the morning then again in the evening, I am sure you could take more, it really does slow down the bleeding. Bsm also contains iron but if you are very low as identified via a blood test take iron and b 50 with vit c as well. Other signs of iron deficiency are cracks in mouth and lips that dont heal and pica cravings headaches feeling exhausted, heart palpitations sometimes pale skin and pale eye lids. Good luck

Try doing it twice daily with Apple Cider Vinegar and water, honey also if you wish (use organic brand ideally for Apple Cider Vinegar as it has the mother.)

I tried it after my horrendously heavy painful period so for 3 weeks then had another and I didn't have to use any tranexamic acid or strong painkillers like usual, went from ten day bleed to a 5 and no leaking through to the mattress either whilst wearing a tamp so it's definitely helped me. Might just take more time. You need to do it religiously every day for a while to benefit and then if it works for you stick at it long term for life.

Coffee and green tea both cause heavier menstrual flow. Try taking Blackstrap Molasses in orange juice (your body absorbs more iron when you also take vit c). Also try taking it after eating.
