My Experience after 9 days of taking Theanine Serene with Relora, Acetyl L-Carnitine and Magtein for my tremors. I've been very consistent with my new supplements, and am still, very hopeful as it just hasn't been that long since I started them on the 8th of this month (Oct. 2018). I haven't noticed a continuous, steady difference in my tremor yet, but yes, some improvement. I am still reading as much as I can on deficiencies. One thing that is most noticeable in improvement, is that I feel more calm, but not knocked out or sleepy.

Some reading may remember that I have several issues going on, and trying to take something for each. Some sups as you know, work on several areas, so I am so glad for that as money doesn't grow on trees;)

My daily dosages:

Theanine Serene (source naturals ) 2 x per day

Acetyl L-Carnitine (same brand @ 250mg) 1-2 per day (label says 4 per day)

Magtein (just started this one which I received on 10/16/2018) 1 X per day

other supplements I take for other issues (but some help w/tremors I hear):

B50, D3, Alpha Lipoic Acid (tinnitus/ringing in the ears), Blackstrap Molasses (spleen), Coconut Oil (for iodine, and other benefits of EVCO)

For those out there like me, that are working hard to replace what our bodies are lacking in nutrition, I wanted to add a "post" I found here that was very helpful to me in understanding how supplements work, or this person's opinion on it. I am believing on it because I know that it takes a long time to get into bad shape, so I figure it isn't going to happen overnight, getting some healthy balance and working-order, back into my organs:

Magnesium Threonate, Theanine Serene with Relora and Acetyl L-Carnitine.

Will keep taking, along with top ups of Magnesium Citrate and, occasionally, the Good Guru supplement that I mentioned. But, it's definitely those initial three that made and make the difference. it's hard to find posts for me, but I'm getting the hang of it. My Mag. info is 2 or 3 posts up on the page I'm on (which was the link in my email for your last post to me).

Ok, on the book, it's on it's way, very good price, and the Mag. I'll just have to try. I am having bad shakes this a.m. but taking my "sups" the way it says to. I have not been taking my Mag citrate but started it again this a.m. Only 100mg though. I don't know that it will help. I want to be able to try more like you had mentioned the 500mg but a bit scared to try that with the citrate so will wait for my taurate to arrive.

I think we are communicating on two different threads?? I am trying to reply to the one you mentioned another magnesium supplement. Reading the description, it sounds like a good one but you need to pay close attention to the other ingredients in it. I don't know anything about it and everyone is able to tolerate different combinations more than others.

Capsules are a real problem for me. In the manufacture of a capsule whether gelatin or vegetable, a manufactured glutamic acid (MSG) is created. It is a nerve stimulant. By a piecemeal process of elimination I learned I am sensitive to the toxic effects of a capsule. For example when I ingest a Bromelain capsule I will experience prolapse but I don't have a problem with prolapse if I open the capsule and pour the contents in some food like applesauce. Ligaments hold organs in place. Hidden sources of MSG stimulate some nerve cells to death. The body is always trying to regenerate itself but there will come a time too much has been destroyed and will not be able to. The same thing happens to me IF I ingest the capsules for serrapeptase. I know it is the capsule. Like I know pepper will make me sneeze.

For well over two decades I've learned I am fine-tuned into some "inactive" ingredients that can cause me problems. Any combination can be harmful. I believe the people who went to the food industry to have them test their own products more than my PCP and the administration who is supposed to protect us.

That fifth edition you found should be fine. Lavon J. Dunne is only shown on my third edition but John D. Kirschmann, Director of Nutrition Search, Inc. is shown on the ones I have so you are in the right ballpark!

Hi Diane,

I am wondering if you ever tried essential oils for your tremors? I use essential oils for everything under the sun and I am curious if you have found any relief? I am researching and looking into it for myself as well as my husband and father (Parkinson's). I have noticed a difference in mine a bit since I started drinking Ningxia Red everyday. I am willing to try any natural remedies and would prefer to stay away from medications. Thanks for any info you have!

Hi Kt, thank you so much! I've been researching which Magnesium is best for me, and found this info below. I want to get this one, and wondering about the dosage. Would it be different than the amount you suggested in the a.m. before food I wonder. Thank you again Kt, good to see you. I am taking all my sups, no shakies, so I think maybe it was caused by caffeine in my coffee. I am drinking it very diluted now. I know I need to just get off the darn stuff and will, I'm sure I will:)

Sometimes I'll read a post, then not be able to find it again. I just found yours that gave me hope as well as other's I've found;) I am just getting ready, literally, to submit my order for Magtein, and Magnesium Phosphate, or as it is called in a homeopathic by hyland, Magnesium Phophorica (spelling?). Feedback from you, or anyone else for that matter, very welcome. The Magtein I find I can actually afford is NOW brand.

Thanks Art. I don't think that's what it is though, since I did do that one this a.m., with no shakes. I thought it might be the blackstrap but took that too this a.m. The only ones I haven't this far through the day are the Acetyl L Carnitine, and my B50. About to take those now.

I still don't have the Magnesium Phosphate I want to get since trying some of a friend's, and I felt calm just in a few minutes. You put them under your tongue and they are by hyland. Also, I haven't gotten the Magtein yet. I can tell you that my tremor is definitely better than it was, and my feeling of more calmness is way better. I suppose it's interlinked of course, that if I "feel" more calm, less stress, less anxiety, my tremors would be better:)

Morning Kt,

Something I am taking is giving me the "inside" jitters, tremor is better for the most part, but in the a.m. after I've taken my sups. I get jittery after about a half hour. I'm off the Mag Citrate, so I am not sure what's doing it. I am still doing my Blackstrap, 1/16 of a tsp of stevia in my coffee (which I haven't gotten jitters from any of the above before) and only 2, weak cups of coffee.

I didn't take my sups this a.m. just to see if the jitters are from the above though to be sure.

Any clues what I might be taking now that would give me jitters? Here's the list again:

  • Serene (source naturals, theanine w/relora) for tremor
  • alpha Lipoic Acid (for tinnitus)
  • blackstrap, 1 tsp (but try to get in at least 2 a day) spleen - never caused me any jitters before I started the above items
  • Acetyl L-carnitine (tremor)
  • B50
  • D3
  • vco
  • acv

Any idea on anything causing that jittery feeling? I haven't taken any sups this a.m. yet and not jitters.

The friends I mentioned doing research on ingredients started the site, www.truthinlabeling.org. They provide a list of possible hidden sources of MSG. When you reheat food...why leftovers taste so much better...you are creating more manufactured glutamic acid that stimulates your taste buds to want more. Those of us who were in the consumer group, NOMSG, recognize a variety of symptoms from arthritis and asthma to heart palpitations or road rage that are MSG reactions but because everyone eats differently not everyone will react the same way. It is a nerve stimulant, period and is the preferred method of killing the dogs that are used for consumption in Asian countries. They die of respiratory arrest with convulsions. Ok, did take the time to at least read your post Kt, I want to look further at the Mag citrate now as I didn't mention yet I already have a pacemaker for a condition I was diagnosed with in 97. A 3rd degree AV node block so I have to pay attention to all the info I can get on this stuff. I feel a bit shakey this a.m. but no heart palps. It makes me want to stop the mag citrate though and will do that for now and see how things go. ttys, Denise

Ok, this will be short as I'm taking a gal-friend shopping today at 10;) but I did want to let you know I was reading your replies.

I have been on the B50 per another post I saw by Ted, he seems very knowledgable and want to try it as well. Just read another post yesterday about Riboflavin working for a guy that has Parkinsons. I don't think I've got that (B2) in my complex but I'll check. Cilantro I can do for sure, and haven't used much of that at all in the past, but will check it out as well. I'll give you the list of all I am taking. It's a lot of stuff, but I feel fine with no side effects like with the crud I was on for 2 weeks before I headed for EarthClinic;)

I agree so much with the recommended B-Complex. The McGraw Hill NA by John D. Kirschmann and Nutrition Search, Inc. is available on Amazon. A local health food store might carry it. That's where I got my first one.

I want to mention I never had any heart problems until I took the mag citrate liquid prep for the colonoscopies. It was only then, while sedated, I was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

Awhile later after I heard a board certified neurosurgeon recommend mag citrate because it was more readily absorbed, I bought some and started taking it. I even informed a neighbor about it and he started taking it. I did not give my previous diagnosis a second thought. I was more interested in protecting my body & brain against the toxic effects of hidden MSG.

Some time after taking the mag citrate the neighbor and I both had frightening heart palpitations. Sometimes my heart "rumbled" frantically on & off. My PCP ordered a stress test and I was diagnosed with PVC (premature ventricular contractions).

After I spoke with my friends who had done research on "inactive ingredients" I was advised about the "citrate" and "citric acid" probably being processed from corn because it was cheaper.

In the production of ingredients, including amino acids, a manufactured glutamic acid is often created and is a nerve stimulant. In combination with others it can stimulate some nerve cells to death. My friends personally know the neurosurgeon who has written a book about the "excitotoxins" in our food and are mentioned in his book because he used some of their information.

It took awhile to get the effects out of my system after I stopped taking it. Just wanted to advise you that my friend, with a PhD., and her husband did a lot of research and investigation on alleged inactive ingredients in our supplements and medications. I continue to take the mag oxide several times a day with no problems. I feel they saved my life and even my marriage!

I must have provided something unacceptable because another post to you has been removed.

I feel it's important to note, not everyone can tolerate the same ingredients and because you are having a spleen disturbance I'd be cautious about combinations of ingredients you are taking.

Oh Lord, I thought you said addictive but yes, it is an additive that the lady that wrote about her husband getting rid of his tremors. She is soazburrolady;)

Ok, I will go ahead and get it as well. I am going to take the other dose of Serene tonight as I only took one yesterday, and none at night. I think that it is helping Art! I wont write much tonight, and I dont see the previous post I thought I submitted correctly. I had asked you about the Magtein being addictive, LOL!!

Anyway, sure appreciate all the info from you and Kt;) I will write more tomorrow. I want to tell you both about my doctor visit today. All I'll say now, as I am pooped out again, but a good pooped out from being busy running around living life today;) So what I want to say is, I am glad I am doing all I can to manage my own health, because I had told her I had a feeling of swelling in my spleen, or that area anyway, and she had forgotten about it completely.

Hi Denise...Here's what Ted from Bangkok says about tremors:

"A head tremors sometimes is a Bell's Palsy caused by certain viruses, or perhaps demyelination. Certain oils seems to cause problems in which case granulated lecithin, vitamin B complex may help. Antibiotics and certain meds may have caused it. Also heavy metals also shorts out and caused it too. Changing water source such as bottled water may help, and taking some chlorella supplements, every two days, plus daily magnesium citrate 250-500 mg a day, plus daily alkalization until both urine and saliva pH is 7, usually helped. I had other cases of tremors before, so it was the alkalization, metal chelation, and magnesium really did help. Although the person was a child and had leg tremors, but it's still a type of neurodegenerative conditions bough on by acidosis, heavy metals, and lack of magnesium. Vitamin B50, some vitamin C helps. It should be noted that most supplements ideally is taken only 4 or 5 days out of a week, but the chlorella and chelation remedies require more spacing between days. A milder form may be just a small amount of cilantro and taken every two days also does the job too. In a child it was only a couple of leaves of cilantro, but in an adult dose, they may take larger doses as per weight basis.

I would also agree with Art -- you should take higher dose thiamine (500 mgs once a day with a meal). I would also take B50 Complex once a day as well because the B vitamins always tend to work better synergistically as a group rather than on their own.

Ok Kt and Art,

I am going to study your info as I need time to really read it, and read it well. Two things did stand out right away. I am interested in the Nutrition Almanac, very much so, and Art, I am wondering about the "addiction" you meant from the magtein? It is expensive, and when I saw the dose being 3 per day just like you said, I already decided I wasn't going to take the much right off the bat. Did you mean it would literally be addictive in a bad way, or a good way?

The Serene is making me just that, feel very relaxed and even felt my tremor was almost non existent when I got into bed last night. This a.m. I felt it was better than it had been in a long time, just slightly, but a noticeable difference, weird, but possible I guess;)

Again I'd like to answer both posts with deserving replies so I'll do that in the a.m. I think tomorrow;) Thank you both so much!! Denise

PS I am doing the Magnesium Citrate 100 mg, and the Magnesium in the Serene which I mention is 300. No issues at all with diahrea so far. I do eat meat and eggs, the best I can get;) Mostly fish and poultry though.

If the product you are taking is the one from Source Naturals, the ingredients seem like they should be very relaxing and good for ET. I believe that the magnesium l threonate (Mag-T / Magtein) will be additive. Most Mag-T products suggest that you take 3 or 4 capsules per day.

Myself, I take Mag-T and Magnesium Taurate along with mag oil applied topically for general health and specific heart and brain health.

One other that you can consider is high dose thiamine based on this:

Okay Denise...I am sorry I am so piecemeal. "Citrate" is processed from corn and corn has been genetically modified. Monsanto's patented gene had infiltrated corn around 1998. All produce has been affected and makes assimilation extremely difficult.

The video "Food, Inc." confirmed our food was being engineered to last longer so grass-fed, free range and organic are no longer healthier and are more expensive.

I questioned a free-range chicken farm about their eggs because I had horrible heartburn after eating just one large hard boiled egg. They also fed their chickens some specially blended grain from the Amish that contained GMO's. It wasn't the fault of the Amish. They thought they were doing what was right.

My husband and I had more ailments when we tried to convert one summer to the alleged healthier way of eating. We both had more weight gain (I try to stay under 100 lbs.), heartburn...indigestion...reflux (whatever you want to call it, it's from too many carbs in the diet), constipation, kidney pain and bladder leaks. I believe I have another post here on EC about that.

About water...too much water flushes out the water soluble vitamins. The Nutrition Almanac says minerals help maintain "the delicate water balance essential to the proper functioning of mental and physical processes. They keep blood and tissue fluids from becoming either too acid or too alkaline and permit other nutrients to pass into the bloodstream."

It is just my opinion that drinking too much water is as harmful as the "fat-free" era, during which a lot of gallbladders were removed. The gallbladder needs fat to contract. I have another post here on EC about that too.

Hi Denise,

I have to apologize for my piecemeal posts. My concern for you was stopping the tremors first and because they have gone on so long it may not be a quick fix so the reason for the large dose suggestion on an empty stomach just before a meal. I eat meat and eggs. Diarrhea isn't a problem for me but I think that could be easily resolved by taking turmeric or eating a banana. The Nutrition Almanac reports amino acids are found naturally along the intestinal wall and act as receptors for the minerals. Magnesium has to bind with protein for absorption. I assume that must be why I did not have diarrhea.

I started taking a 500 mg. tab of magnesium before each meal years ago after I started to have so much trouble with my neck and the doctor I saw for my head traumas sent me to two neck surgeons after an MRI on my neck. That started me looking into nutrition.

I had a hysterectomy in the early nineties and was advised I needed to take more calcium for my bones. I started to eat a lot of spinach for the calcium. Previously I had multiple head & neck injuries that really never bothered me until I rammed my head into the door frames of our vehicles by using the step to get into them three different times because I'm short. After eating a lot of spinach I started to have grinding and "popping" in my neck that frightened me because I felt like my head was going to detach from my neck.

The NA explains calcium will not produce hard teeth & bones unless enough magnesium is taken. Too much calcium can contribute to kidney stones or gallstones without magnesium. I had a kidney stone so large it ripped one of my ureters.

Vitamin C is also important but getting C from orange juice has too many carbs. Too many carbs cause indigestion and that would take me into a whole different conversation. I saw a post by a doctor who went on a low carb diet just to lose weight and observed he no longer had indigestion. There is another post on EC about the summer my husband and I went on the free-range, organic meat and eggs and all the trouble we had. GMO's have infiltrated our food supply and cannot be avoided just due to wind and bird droppings.

I think it would be good for you to obtain a Nutrition Almanac. Everyone is different and you need to find what will work for you. I saw a report on the news that many are deficient in magnesium and getting it naturally is difficult so supplements are necessary.

There is so much more I'd like to share but with an ill husband my time is really limited and he does not like seeing me sit here so long. I can post this now because he was admitted yesterday to start his second infusion therapy.

I'll mention lemons are a good source of vit C and I just found an excellent report on lemon water and digestion but I am not sure about providing a link here, now. I think you can Google "benefits of lemon water" to get the report. I'll look into it after I submit this post and amend if necessary.

Ok, Kt, I read all of your post, thank you so much. I am a little confused about what type of Magnesium is best so I have Magnesium Citrate and I am just taking 100mg a day right not, no diarrhea issues but I realize that must be a pretty low dosage. I am 5'2" and and 136 lbs, 65 years old and exercise (walking) at least 3 times a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. Lot's of water, and watch my foods and that really started about 10 years ago.

I have acid reflux so that really started me eliminating foods, and I have the acid reflux under control. The "silent reflux" is also wayyy better but not completely gone.

Ok, so I missed one of the sups that a lady here on the thread mentions (soazburrolady) that has worked wonders for her husbands ET's. I thought I had everything but I need to also get Magnesium L-Threonine?? I need to research that though as it's another Magnesium. I am also getting Magnesium in the Theanine Serena, with Relora so I have to check these things out. For now, until I find out more from you and Art, or on my own "surfing" the web, I'll take these, as long as I don't have any adverse side effects;) Denise

I read a post from 2014 that Mag. Glycinate is best for not causing diarrhea? Also, right now I have added to my 100 mg a day of Mag. Citrate, the Magnesium that is in the Theanine Serene w/relora (and it is 300mg)?? It doesn't say what type of Mag. it is except it does say "as Magnesium Amino Acid complex". What do you think? I only started the latter today, just got it in the mail.

Thank you for all your help, but I know my body is only a testing ground for these things, but I am willing to try, with baby-steps, rather than take drugs right off the bat. Denise, Crescent City, CA

I just saw these replies and I think you guys are talking to me!! This is great, and first off, I can take magnesium citrate, and usually just 100 mg in the a.m. I don't know if I could increase that without the "other" issue though. I can try going up slowly.

I've also gotten the Theanine Serene w/relora and Acetyl L-carnitine and taking that. I'm only taking 1 of each though (TSwR tells you 2 a day is the dosage). Baby steps here;) I have so many issues, I'm all over this site. But I just can't stomach (literally)the drugs doctors want me to take. Not without at least trying natural remedies.

I need to go back and re-read each of your posts more thoroughly now, but wanted to get this posted in hopes you are still getting alerts;) Denise

Hi Soazburrolady: Many thanks for your good wishes. Hopefully I can pull away from the despairing life and into a better one away from social 'security'. Funding my meds means moving. Having had an offer on my house and finding one cheaper, with luck, will mean a new life -- not another one! -- and money in the bank. Enough for me to look after myself for a change and recuperate properly. I don't honestly think that the people that make the rules realise just how frustrating tremors are, more especially how, when you're dealing with that on top of Aspergers and Ichthyosis. I feel like the family dumping ground for confidence disenablement. Is that a good thing to have on your resume? The one stability in my life was my art. That was mine and no thing could take that away. Well, I reckoned without ETs. All we can do is continue the battle.

Yes, thanks for clearing that up!! I am lucky it doesn't do that for me although the mag citrate is what caused me to have frightening palpitations and to be diagnosed with PVC. It is also what is used for a colonoscopy prep. I posted what happened to me somewhere else here on EC awhile back. I think under the A Fib thread.

I am able to tolerate magnesium oxide well in powder form and tablet. I also eat complete protein with each meal as advised in the Nutrition Almanac.

Personally I feel complete protein can only be animal protein because B12 is only found naturally in animal protein. I could not survive without meat and eggs.

It should be noted that some people will not be able to take 500 mg of magnesium on an empty stomach without getting diarrhea. This may be even more of a problem with some forms of magnesium of which there are now easily more than fifteen different types. Two of the worst forms for diarrhea are magnesium citrate and magnesium oxide but other forms can cause diarrhea when taken at 500 mg on an empty stomach. I say this from experience in myself and others.

The Nutrition Almanac declares a mineral deficiency often results in illness.

Try taking 500 mg. magnesium on an empty stomach first thing in the morning at least 15 min. before you eat breakfast and then with your meals, making sure you get complete protein with each meal. Amino acids are found naturally along the intestinal wall and act as receptors for minerals. Minerals have to bind with amino acids for absorption. (Nutrition Almanac)

Our entire food supply has been tainted for decades and I believe that could be contributing to the tremors. Hidden sources of MSG are nerve stimulants. There are voluminous hidden sources of MSG in our food supply. I noticed a post to avoid aspartame. Aspartame and MSG have a similar chemical make up. CBN has done several news briefs on both.

Magnesium and vit. C are reported to offer some protection against nerve stimulants in our food. Ginger is calming for me and fights cancer.

I haven't had physical tremors but have had over stimulating brain activity due to stimulants in our food compounded by traumatic brain injuries and used to have a spit-fire temper. I also had IBS, degenerative disc disease and arthritis diagnosed. Magnesium, vit. C and ginger have been tremendous help for me in addition to avoiding the above mentioned.

I had to change my diet piecemeal, by the process of elimination for over two decades to start healing. I am now 70 and only have trouble with adhesions from multiple surgeries years ago and a severed lining to my G.I. tract. My PCP said that will never heal and his nurse said as long as I can evacuate I should be okay.

If I don't get enough magnesium first in the morning I will have arthritis aches, which is really inflammation from nerve stimulants...could have been from something I ate the day before. Turmeric and ginger reduce inflammation and are both reported to fight cancer.

There is no one-size-fits-all but I hope some of this information will help you. It's taken me a long time to learn how our food supply is making us sick but I have also learned how it can be used to help us get well.

It's been a little more than a year since my last post and I'm still striving towards eliminating ET. I'm following recommended supplements - Theanine Serene & Magtein. Theanine Serene is so potent, I can only take half a pill before bedtime which knocks me out for the night.

Magtein, I only take 1 capsule during the day, it makes me really tired.

I'm now going to order Acetyl L Carnitine - I've been hesitant due to some of the reviews and concerned about possible jittery reaction. Henceforth, I'm hoping for positive results to share in my next post.

I have dealt with the tremors since 1988 when they really started effecting my head, but had started in my hands. My head shakes so bad now that I sometimes have a hard time brushing my teeth, eating, and I cannot put on any eye-makeup (vanity I know). Also, I notice it gets worse when I pull up next to another car and I think people are looking so I shake all the worse.

My hands are pretty bad as I cant write well at all, and when typing, or carrying a drink I sometimes start shaking just uncontrollably so I have to set the drink down. With tea or hot coffee this is no fun Im sure some of you know. I wont go on about it, but I am grateful to see all the info I can gather from others who suffer from this sometimes debilitating nerve disorder. Im assuming that is what mine is anyway.

So no meds for anything, I am 65, eat a nutritionally as possible, drink lots of water, take atleast a 2 mile walk 3 or 4 times a week, and do free-weights for strength training. None of which has helped my tremor so I am thinking deficiency.

So my plan of action to start (because now, after reading here, Ive decided I dont just have to accept this condition without trying something natural) with, will be from a post I read here. I ordered the supplements which one contains Acetyl L-Carnitine, and the other I ordered is a combination of Gaba, theanine serene, relora, and L-theanine.

It sure isnt going to hurt to try these things that are working for a few other people on this thread. I have a clean enough system that I will know if something isnt good for me, so I will take baby-steps and see how it goes. This thread is so big that I just plan to keep reading and especially want to understand more about a gluten free diet. I thought that was only for folks with celiac disease but if its helping others, than it would be worth trying as well.

Enough for now, and I am just grateful for all the folks that get on here and share because you all have given me some hope that I may not have to just live with this. Thank you all, Denise

PS I will be back after I have gotten my order on the 8th of this month, and started my supplements:)

All I can say is many, many heartfelt thanks for your posts on the maintenance regimen, which, has paid off, for myself, for the second, and now third time. That seems to be the clincher! Although I am now taking the Acetyl-L-Carnitine as part of a broader multi-supplement, with Arginine, etc, ( Good Guru's Memory and Focus ) with the Theanine Serene with Relora and Magnesium Threonate, the first and latter supplied by British companies, the latter being Phoenix, my initial tryouts with the Source Naturals recommendation were equally successful. Being UK based informed my decision, it being helpful that only one of the supplements be imported. Hopefully I can now continue taking these and nothing else stupid will happen to prevent me taking up my career again!

Of course, it is best to get as natural as possible. That said, nature has left us with predicaments from our ancient past. We would have to be consuming fruit and vegetables at a continual rate to meet our basic needs for a mammal our size and debates rage as to how we can sustain our individual need for the stuff. It has been labelled humankind's "missing stress molecule". Studies for people with Aspergers, where there are abnormal spikes of amygdala activity, put the need, at least, 8 grams daily. I would say though that most humans undergo more continual, relentless stresses than most creatures alive simply through our type of sentience and the lives we put upon ourselves. Reason why we wear out so often? BTW: Had a bowl of porridge and, quite quickly actually, my tremor went bonkers! Very interesting. Now; to labelling. Look for, I should say, 'Wildcrafted' and 'Organic', preferably the former being included. I think there is 'Good Manufacturing Practice' that you look for in America(?) which could also be your guide. Not sure about 'pure' vitamin c, as it might not be utilised efficaciously to be of the health value we are looking for. I think arguments carry on as to if just ascorbate has all that is necessary for all the repairs required upon it in the body. I think we could all do with a repair manual issued at birth. One day perhaps?

A friend has a family history of tremors in the head and arms, and went to a Traditional Chinese accupuncturist for an extended period. It has now been a year and a half that she has been free of the tremors. I have been going to the same accupunturist, independently before I talked to this person, and I have heard many people in the office talk of surgeons who developed temors and could no longer practice medicine, become healed by this Traditional Chinese acupuncturist and can once again operate on patients. Hi Anna: That's interesting about the celery juice. Good source, again, of Magnesium and also Potassium and Sodium. Maybe I should add it. I used to combine juices a lot. As for the slow and steady, that's me alright. "Slow and methodical": that's how they described me in my school reports fifty years ago. Like Endeavour Morse, I stumble over a clue, think "hang on, there was something there wasn't there! ", go back, trip over it again and think, "that worked, what if I do it again?". So far, what I am doing seems to be working. I don't seem to need so much meditation at the moment which is interesting. We must beware of anutrients, I feel. They can cause havoc. My tremors are inherited through my mother's side. She never had any! My uncle and grandmother did, however. Magnesium deficiency is one of the most common. I am sure C is another, simply because of the mass call on it throughout the body. The RDA is ridiculous. A mammal the size of a mountain goat bi-synthesises 13-14 grams of the stuff to cope with it's stresses in life via an enzymatic process in it's liver and humans, who have lost the means to do so, with more stressors than a goat, is only recommended 60 mg!!? With all the repairs it is needed to do? Come on. Pull the other one! That's my rant over. BTW: My, that was an expensive bath. However, many discoveries are made through accident.

Thank you and I am learning a lot from your posts around the language of these tremors. Your progress is impressive - and 18 days is a blink really in the bigger scheme of things. I looked up "Soazburrolady" and will copy her posts into my notes for future research and study.

A couple of my family have the tremors - milder versions than mine. I only ever found raw celery as a cure for the shaking, but couldn't eat enough to make a dent, so celery juice has helped a bit in the past. However, any stress or conflict and my shaking is uncontrollable. Now that I am retired, life is much easier.

Funny thing, I ordered the two pound container of pharmacy grade magnesium as part of my 'anti candida' protocol and planned to use a little in a bath and the rest ingested. Well, I opened the canister over the path and ended up dropping the whole thing in the water - 2 lbs of magnesium -$20.00 - most expensive bath I ever took - but here is the thing - it was sublime. I soaked until I was totally pruned and had absorbed my twenty buck ten times over - and I felt incredible, renewed and vitalized. I slept wonderfully well for the next few nights and overall, my tremors seemed much less. Mine are in my face and a bit in my hands, but definitely the magnesium is a curative for me.

I very much like your research approach to all the supplements, slow and steady. I have made a list of the ones you mention, and will read up on them and then search for 'best-buys' so I can begin to acquire the ones you suggest. I only began the candida treatment 4 weeks ago, so will probably focus in on the candida protocols before I get too focused on the tremors, however, there seems to be some overlap in the treatment, so will combine where I can. I am amazed at the results so far, and beyond grateful to Earth Clinic website. So much to learn.

So, now, when my finances allow, I will reorder, but it confirms - my body is starved for magnesium. Thank you again for your most generous sharing, it is very heartening to hear your progress and I am creating my learning list for moving forward.

Sorry Anna, for your name wrongly spelt in the last posting: To give you some idea of the time frame. Eighteen days past and I could shave reasonably with my right hand, couldn't draw, could only write by steadying the top of a pencil with my left hand. This weekend, I have found that I can draw for short periods and write one-handed a little. Hand shakes a bit if I get too enthusiastic, upper arm shakes, but still controllable to a point, then I give it a rest. Whole body still trembles if exercising, then stop. It's as if shivering. No body shaking if at rest. Increased four days ago to 2 grams Magnesium L-Threonate daily. Still on 1 tablet of Theanine Serene with Relora, I capsule of Good Guru 'Good Mind and Memory'. Note: the last is an extremely broad supplement, this is the one containing both Arginine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Also contains Gingko Biloba and Brahmi plus vits and minerals. Always best to check the RDA and ascertain if you need that much, plus any effects of long term usage. I hope this may be of some use.

I basically follow Soazburrolady's recommendation as to supplements and dosage. Since I live in the UK, I've tried to find local suppliers regarding the Magnesium L-Threonate and the Acetyl-L-Carnitine. Source Naturals products, the 'Theanine Serene with Relora', where I am, has to be imported by the distributor. I purchase from IHerbs. I am sure there are others. It is best to look around for the best deals on the magnesium and carnitine. 'Now' seems good brand.

One must be aware that improvements will take time. The longer the problem has existed, the longer it will take for the tremors to be managed. I had to break from treatment because of money problems. The tremors came back, and, when I was able to resume, it has taken longer to regain control. The goal, unfortunately and annoyingly, is management of the tremors by continual supplementation. It is best to read up all you can on the individual ingredients of the supplements and, if you are already on any medication, that there are no contraindications between the supplements and your meds. For example Magnesium has a tendency to lower blood pressure. If you are on meds for blood pressure, watch that your pressure doesn't get too low! One must watch these points you know! Relora has been reported by some users as giving them vivid dreams. Depends which sort of dreams. Best thing, as always, be aware and double-check with a pharmacist or your doctor regarding blood pressure or if you are on blood-thinning medication.

It's 'Good Memory And Focus', which I am going to combine with the Magnesium L-Threonate and the Theanine Serene with Relora. The GMAF supplement contains both the Arginine and Acetyl-L Carnitine. Will keep on topped up with the Mag Citrate. So far, it's the forefinger of the right hand that wants to twist it's way uncooperatively and, of course, that's my drawing hand. I live on in hope the thing will behave itself. At least finding the combination cuts down the pill bottles.

Was taking it to improve the healing of my Ichthyosis skin, noticed the improvement in the tremor, thought interesting. At the same time was investigating the tremor miracle product and noted the ingredients, one of which, Arginine. My writing is steadier briefly, but, still a nuisance. Will persist. So, now it's Magtein, MSM, Perfectil: Skin, Hair and Nails, Theanine Serene and the Arginine. That seems to be shifting the so and so. I may drop the Arginine in favour of Acetyl-L-Carnitine again after I've finished the course. I also belt up some Mag Citrate with some veg and fruit in a Mega blender to top up. Soazburrolady: Can I ask of your husband, with the nature of his tremor, say was he able to at least hold his hands still, were the nerves beneath the skin at the thenar and hypothenar region twitching like mad, trying to get the tremor going again? At the moment I can hold them still, to the extent that there is little involuntary movement, as long as I've been inactive and calm. Resting on my elbows, the shoulders and back of the neck have a 'shivering' movement, the same as if I was cold. This I've noticed if I've been active, fatigued, and it travels down to my legs so that I feel like a walking quake. Nothing is visible when I am sitting, at rest, except at those regions of the hand. It is frustrating that, as soon as I attempt the writing and drawing, the tremor manifests in the interrupted movement. My GP noticed it after I pointed it out. The DWP "can't see it" as they said in their written report, "he wasn't trembling".

This convinces me they are looking for a Parkinson's type of trembling and are not familiar with ETs at all. They consider it irrelevant because it is not outstandingly evident. Will have to persevere in finding a management regimen that will allow me to follow the career within which, like your husband, I have expertise.

Soazburrolady: Thanks for that. The social security on my case again, actually thinking I am self-diagnosed and nothing wrong. I have been assessed for Aspergers positively as well. Doing everyday stuff is tiring with the tremor, but, being aware of how Aspergers elevates stress levels anyway, on top of the years of caring I had to do, it is no wonder that I feel like a spent battery. I was interested in the other product, not sure as to follow it up as £50 for 30 days. Desperately need to shut down the shaky hands and get my career back. May just have to renew the supply of the original tablets. Sorry for the delay in responding. Bad couple of weeks.

I'm just assuming that you are directing your question to me. If so, the answer is - yes. My husband takes the Theanine Serene, Magtein, and Acetyl - L - Carnitine every morning. Still working, thankfully. I think I mentioned that I had started experiencing some symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, and so added Alpha Lipoic Acid to my regimen (also benfotiamine). While reading about the ALA, I noticed that it can also be effective for Essential Tremor, so he is taking that also.

Hello. Can I just ask, is your husband still tremor free? Also, I was wondering about a product called 'Tremormiracle', and, whether any sufferers of ET have found relief with this product? I am of the school of thought that, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. I am interested in the inclusion of L-arginine in the product. Have been trying sourdough bread for a while, as well as the supplements. It's been difficult. Although some control of my hands has returned, the tendency towards tremor has remained. 'Normal' use of hands, no real problem, but, if I try anything delicate, like drawing, writing, painting, the tremor persists. I have been unable to make as regular use of the Magtein, etc, as I would like. This is simply because there is no recognition that the tremor is a problem to be taken that seriously by the DWP. Basically, it appears, if you run out, then you run out. Why aren't you getting work? Because I don't want to tell clients I can handle work in the field of illustration, when, obviously I can't complete a project because of the tremor. Your hands aren't shaking. ( demonstrates) Oh, they are shaking! At this point, I am tempted to start swearing. All I can do is build up a back supply until the damn things get under control.

This second attempt at complete control is that harder and probably because of the break in supplementation. I hope your husband still has maintained control. Recently diagnosed as Aspergers. My assessor has said that, obviously, because of the Aspergers' trait of the need of structure, my art being the structure of my life, it is vital to my mental health that it be reestablished. He has written to my doctor to that effect. However, I know full well that the option to be offered on the NHS would be Beta-blockers! Certainly not supplements.

I have some sort of internal tremors going on for past 10 years, not diagnosed as it doesnt feel anything serious as none of the research added up to anything but stress related. A few weeks ago it felt like it was getting bad as became tiring and was going to go to doctor for tests however a consultation with my Ayurvedic practitoner advised me to take a tsp of scullcap 2x a day. I have been taking it for 4 days now and symptoms go when I take it. Still looking at other things. Also reflux is due to low Acid in stomach ( not high) - there is not enough acid in stomach to keep flaps closed - Avogel have a product to help that though there are remedies on this site too. Re distonia I would be tempted to try CDB oil.

I have essential tremor as well. Have not had any luck with anything I have tried so far. I am on a ketogenic diet. While I love the other benefits of this diet, unfortunately, for me, no reduction in tremors. I do plan of trying essential oils next. I've read some encouraging things about them. Also, maybe the supplement skullcap if the EO's don't work. Fingers crossed on the oils, tho!

I continue to use Theanine Serene 2/day, one with breakfast and one at supper.

The Theanine Serene with Relora, along with Magtein and additional Magnesium absolutely helps with tremors.

I am also taking CBD oil and will be taking Ashwaganda, as well.

I feel that you need to take a combination of calming supplements and adhere to a healthy diet. I will actually steer towards a more keto diet to see it it makes any difference. Definitely, if I ever ingest refined carbs, I do see increased tremors. Diet does make a huge difference.

Not one supplement alone will do the trick. I am seeing that a combination of calming and neuro effective supplements are needed.

Magtein is the brand name of Now Vitamin's Magnesium L Threonate. There are other brands, this is just the one I normally choose.

Acetyl - L - Carnitine is also a Now Product, although there are many other reputable brands.

Is anyone still discussing on this thread? I am so desperate to talk with people who either experience some of the same issues, but are finding help through dietary, or home remedy. I just can't go with conventional medicine on the things I'm dealing with, especially these, two things:

Essential Tremor

Cervical Dystonia

oh, and not to forget the Acid Reflus/Silent Reflux (LPR) which is now almost 100% better just from leaving out some foods (at least I suspect that is why it's better, plus the fact I don't eat after 7pm.

Hi Marc,

I just saw your post and wanted to chime in. For my husband, it took a few weeks to really notice a lessening of the tremors, and possibly a little longer for them to resolve completely. He also takes Acetyl-L-Carnitine for same. On a side note, I started experiencing some peripheral neuropathy recently and added Alpha Lipoic Acid to my rather extensive (and expensive! ) handful of supplements. Since it is known for its beneficial effects on all things nerve related, he's been taking that too.

My husband had only presented with the symptoms of essential tremor a few months prior to instituting the supplements, so perhaps it takes a bit longer for them to take effect when the condition has existed for a good deal longer? Wishing you all the best.

My name is Marc and I have had essential tremors for about 20 yrs I'm now 46 . It started with my right hand and now recently my left. I cannot write anymore or even hold a glass of water. So yes its very challenging at times. I'm hopeful it find relief with magtein and theanine serene w relora. Been taking 2 capsules of each per day. Been about a week and have seen no improvement yet. My question how long should it take to see a difference? Thanks

Please consider that flour has BROMINE in it which most of the wheat products don't tell you about. There is a flour product that doesn't have bromine in it if you want to make your own food.

Thank you! I am well aware of the brain-gut relationship and have made huge strides in the direction of cleaning up my dietary act (gave up sugar and all processed flours and lost 60 pounds! ) but never thought about going the extra distance into Keto land for tremor health. It is SO annoying and embarrassing and has gone from "how do I ignore this?" To "how the heck do I get rid of this?"

Has anyone here tried CBD oil?

Interesting to read that Acetyl-L-Carnitine, or ALCAR, "improves the neural network by strengthening nerves and signal receptors": Quote from site, 'Braintropic' on the subject.

and that it also improves memory and learning function. Could explain the mass of writing I undertook and completed whilst on the supplement in 2006! That was well before the tremors took hold and I have not had Acetyl-L-Carnitine as a regular supplement since. Hmm. Will investigate further. Thanks for the boost in that direction. That's why these discussions are so valuable.

I noticed your post to John and just wanted to add that that it is Acetyl-L-Carnitine and not L-Carnitine that my husband has been using. Not sure of the exact chemical difference, but I know that the Aceytl-L-Carnitine is apparently able to cross the blood/brain barrier (as is magtein), and that is the key to its effectiveness. Those supplements - plus the Theanine Serene, continue to work for him (thankfully). Indeed, they are expensive, but the alternative stinks too! All the best.

Pamg. Sorry; I am not aware of ALA. You may be aware that MSM - methylsulfonylmethane - is a nutritional sulphur and maybe you should check with a physician to make sure. MSM is said to increase respiration in the body's cells to allow the better passage of nutrients in and waste out.

This increased efficiency sounds as though, although my information is theoretical without further checks, that if it facilitates the absorbtion of ANY 'nutrients', it may also increase also the efficacy of any medications you may be on. If that is the case, it may be wise to double check. A lady on YouTube states that she took MSM and then went for a night out, drinking her usual tolerance level, but ending up being carted to hospital blind drunk and stayed that way for another day. My advice would be wary until the necessary questions have been answered. That said, I do take MSM on a regular basis, a sensible balanced diet and avoid alcohol.

Also the other supplements I stated. I had Carnitine some years ago and had considered taking it again, but seem to have got away without as far as tremors are concerned. I am not under any doctor's medication, so none of those interactions are my concern, however, not knowing any further as to your regimen, reiterate caution until your research is complete.

I noticed you mentioned the use of MSM in an early post -I'm wondering if you're STILL taking it or not. I am 61 years young and my tremors are increasing. I already take ALA but not with L-carnitine (will switch to a product that combines both) and taking Magtein as well - tried taking it later in the day and my sleep was horrible! So will continue to take it first thing in the morning.

I am 74 have had ETs for about 5 or 6 yrs now. Started in my hand then left and went to my head. Wasn't too bad to start but has gotten worse over time. Had a MRI of my brain when this first started Dr said it was ETs nothing else wrong. I think my mom may have had this too but not absolutely sure. Have taken Tremadone for about 3 years but not regularly 2 per day and not every day, so can't give a response for it's benefits but will try to take as told and stay away from coffee and other caffeine which really makes it worse

Unfortunately, Theanine Serene with Relora and Magtein have not helped with my head tremors. I have been taking them since August 2016. So I am going to try the high doses of Riboflavin/B2. Hope that helps, my doctor keeps pushing inderol, but when I did use that many years ago after 6 months I had to increase it so decided to find a natural way. Wish me luck I am also looking at CBD Oils, will try the Riboflavin 1st.

Have just managed to purchase some more of the theanine. Hopefully, now, I can return to the full supplementation that worked before and I can re-establish twitchless fingers. DWP seem too stupid to realize that reducing payments DOES NOT HELP but actually hinders recovery or alleviation of troublesome symptoms and that such things need constant maintenance. They need to know why I haven't found work in my chosen field and seem oblivious to cause and effect in such matters. The tremor needs to be sorted out first! Common sense would seem to indicate that alone. How ludicrous can you get?

Update:

The combination of Magtein and Theanine seemed to be working for me, then per suggestion of dr., I put them aside to try UNDA homeopath drops instead. After a relapse, I'm back to taking Magtein and pinch of Theanine bulk powder. At night I take Neuro-Mag, a lemon flavored powder containing vit d3, calcium, and magnesium threonate. Progression has been slow but steady.

Gluten-Free... that did not help. High B2 doses, nope! Every vitamin combo you can name. No help.

As you all know this ailment is so frustrating and its a long road that just gets worse! I came across some research regarding brain using Ketones for energy through a ketogenic diet. The theanine serene with relora and the magtein is causing digestive distress, or some factions of the combination. And I don't need more excuses to be a recluse with the tremors and such effects. But I will never give up seeking natural improvements and as well I will expire before ever going back to neurological drugs again. A sentiment not for everyone, as many can do those without ill effects...presumably. For me, I have a good mind and I wish to keep it; I am energetic and wish to remain so; I have a good sense of humor, which I need for sharing with my off springs. Next I will be trying some new to me combo essential oils with frankincense. Cheers to all.

I will write too long. I had a head injury in 1966 and a 7 day comma, when I woke -- right off I tremored and said to myself, "the girls will never be interested in me now". I lost from 174 lbs down to 109 lbs. Numerous doctors told me I would not live to see age 30...or much less. Over the years I did much research, being I was smart enough yet, even if I tremored badly, to the extent I could not write my name, play the guitar, do art, hold a book in my hands to read it etc. I used many naturals and some with benefits, usually for a short term. I was for a while addicted to tranquilizers, to the extent now I truly am opposed to them for myself. The tremors gradually got worse over the decades, yet I never got angry at or resented the problems. I got this honorably, in a small teams parachute jump in VN, doing what I felt true to liberty assistance....I was fortunate to have an excuse for tremors....my quirkiness.

Thanks for this site! I have been reading and have been taking the theanine serene with relora 2 per day and one magtein, now for about 8 days. I can carry a dinner plate and can touch two fingers of each hand to each other. How long will this last...I have no idea. But over the years I have done hospital stints, done scans, seen numerous neurologists, taken k's of dollars of naturals, took medical drugs I soon quit with side effects, exercise everyday, had years of giving up all caffeine, food coloring, salt, sugar, suggested bad foods, avoided chemicals, withdrew from social gatherings, still losing the abilities of most things I enjoyed. So far I have good results with this and many thanks. Others should do their own research and discussions with their health care provider....my opinions are useless in a professional way.

Hi Cindy. Yes, those are the supplements we added specifically for my husband's tremor. (The Theanine Serene does contain Relora which I know some posters prefer to go without.) He takes other supplements also, but, had been prior to the onset of the tremor, so I don't think they enter into the equation. John: There may be hope for all ET sufferers outside of all the costly supplements and/or beta blockers, etc. There is a new device still in experimental stages coming to the market. They will not give me a "freebee" which they are now offering to those willing to be be guinea pigs. The reason that I do not qualify to be a guinea pig is that I do not live near London where they are (I am in the USA). But you, John, are in the UK, hence you may qualify. The device is called the Gyroglove. Check it out, It looks unique, and is something you simply wear on your affected wrist. By September, the experiment will end, and it will come to market for $600. I may purchase it then. I just pray that I do not have Parkinsons. My older brother has Parkinsons and his daughter (my niece) has ET and treats it successfully with Propanolol.

John, so sorry to hear of your new difficulties. I just thought I might add a note of encouragement to all of you suffering from ET. My husband has been continously on the same supplements since before my first post - and continues tremor free. We are truly thankful. It is, without a doubt expensive, but works, and he has had no ill effects. I will say that the remedy worked fairly quickly (within a few weeks he noted improvement). So, it is possible that other causes of tremor will not respond as well. We have been too chicken to discontinue to see what might happen! My best to you all.

If I take the combination, as I have posted, then, yes, there is a difference and a noticeable deterioration if I stop. Unfortunately for me, I am now on Employment Support (?) Allowance, which means that I now find it difficult to afford to take the supplements regularly. They want me to find work and my best means to that is by working from home at illustration - other options for very good reasons are limited in the extreme - however, by the very meagreness of the allowance, even that is going to prove more difficult. Personally, I think that they wish me to decrease the surplus population. The combination, personally, does not make me feel tired. The Nutrasleep, I take before bed anyway, for the GABA, but some nights, as always, I remain awake and some I fall asleep. I am however taking a maintenance dose for the tremor as opposed to a sleep aid. I don't feel drowsy the next day. One has to note that your tremor sounds worse at the outset of treatment than my own, concomitantly of course, your results, and I sincerely hope they should be positive, may be longer in coming. My very best of wishes. I do understand the importance for your soul's sake of continuing that which you love and the destruction of spirit that tremors can have. My daughter studies piano and organ, so your post struck a chord (sorry, can't help that pun) with me. From watching her, I know that it is painful to not be able to play the instrument you love as you like (and you need it for your livelihood as well! )

Have you tried any magnesium supplementation yet? Also, have you eliminated all artificial sweeteners yet (and MSG, another neurotoxin.)

I am very hopeful that natural remedies will cure you of this and allow you to continue with your music for pleasure and for your work.

John: I am a concert-level pianist as well as a church organist/pianist and high school music teacher. Music is my passion as well as my profession! I am 63 but my wife is 20 years younger and we have 2 small boys ages 9 & 5. I am right hand dominant and have had increasingly severe tremors on that side (hand, arm, leg and foot) for approx. 2 years now. It is really affecting my writing, drinking, eating and of course, my keyboard playing! Our very livelihood is threatened.

Has your regime continued to help you? Do you feel tired during the day as a result of your regime?

I have found that I can get away with little supplementation at present. I have been on a minimalist diet, mostly raw and have not had wheat based products for, at least, four or five months. Hands have remained quite steady and did not return to full supplementation.

Events. My mother passed away two months ago and an extensive period of stress lifted as I had had to take care of her, initiating a long period of years of self neglect, before she was finally persuaded to go into care. I do occasionally have a session of biting my lip when I am eating and the nerves twitch under the skin of my hand - more noticeably the right - but events having taken the turn they have, it is as if years - of the tremor - have been removed. Having said all this, I will keep the Magtein and the Theanine and the Nutrasleep on standby. Drawing stable, still have not mustered courage for painting or inking yet. I don't think cursive writing is going to be something that I will ever master, but I may tentatively try it. My brain refuses to link the technicality of writing with imparting information to a page at speed using such a device as a pen although writing, lettering style, with a pencil seems to work adequately - adequately enough for a fellow artist to remark that I have "beautiful writing" and a councillor I have been seeing to remark upon it. They see scattered sentences. If I had to produce a page at length they may see different results. I still avoid attempting that. The worst I get is filling in the forms that I have had to. Bureaucracy always stresses me out.

Hello!

I used Tremadone for 6 months, as well, abided by their suggested diet, all to no avail. I believe that I gave it a fair chance to make a difference. When you take a look at the ingredients, there really is no sufficient dosage to make any effect.

I too have tried Propranolol, after which I experience increasing fatigue. So much so that the fatigue created a much lesser quality of life than the tremors do.

Currently, I am trying Theanine Serene with Relora and Magtein, both from Source Naturals. After only 2 days, I have regained my energy and feel a good calmness. Hopefully, the tremors will decrease. So far, I do see a slight improvement while writing in the evening after a full day's work.

Good luck to us all with this challenging neuro movement disorder!

Oh, how grateful I am to have read your comments on Essential tremors!!!

I will order right away, as per your suggestions. I am now 61, desperately trying to control my hand tremors. They have been progressively getting worse since I was 54, inherited from my mom. It is of most importance to me to treat this disorder through alternative health as I am a health care provider, caring for the elderly, mostly who suffer with dementia. I see the side effects of alopathic medicine and don't want any part of that.

A person near and dear to me drinks about 4 Diet Cokes (with aspartame) per day. She says she has "essential tremors" as did her mother. Her mother never drank Diet Coke and died at 76 of complications supposedly from Lupus. Maybe just get off the Diet Soda, and the body can heal itself.

Her tremors are so bad that she can no longer write legibly, and she says that they are beginning to affect her driving. Start with the easiest solution, I say, STOP THE DIET COKE. She, like Michael J. Fox, is addicted to the diet soda.

You likely have a magnesium deficiency that is being exacerbated by the large amount of Vitamin D that you are taking. The same thing happened to me. Vitamin D needs magnesium to convert it into a usable form. The large amount you are taking is sucking up all your magnesium. Trembling and hand tremors are a result. Please research how to take Vitamin D with magnesium.

Hi John. I agree that the combination of supplements that relieve tremor are really costly. You could try Aceytl-L-Carnitine in place of the theanine. I just purchased them (500mg) for 12 cents apiece. My husband continues to take the whole "shebang" every day, but has not had any return of symptoms. We also both take several other supplements to keep us upright and taking sustenance! It is quite expensive, but better than the alternative - I think!

Interesting. I will go back to my original for a spell to regain the improvement, and if that works, try again with an increase to the full 3 capsules of Magtein. Of course it may all just point to subtle, yet important differences in the reasons behind the individual tremors. If only we were born with an individually tailored manual. Of course we are, but only our bodies can read it and they think that tremors are normal everyday operation. The fact that it's something we don't want is new information to them and frankly why don't we want them? Here am I, applying sentience to a 'selfish' gene!

Right. I have to say that, after removing the Nutrasleep for a few weeks, and dropped the Theanine as well - time not tracked, but estimating a fortnight - the fingers have started to twitch again. Have continued with the Magnesium Threonate, but it seems that alone does not do it. Will return to my original dosages. Had a problem with costs and thought that I would see if the mag would do the trick by itself. Apparently not in my case. It does seem that a continued supply of it all puts the tremor into submission. With a return to full supplementation, hopefully it will all work peaceably again.

I noticed two posts with vitamin D levels below 20, your vitamin D level needs to be between 40-60 ng/ml, you are deficient. To determine your correct D level the formula is 35 IU times your body weight. And it is essential you get a baseline test of your D level, its called a 25(OH)D test then from those results you can determine how much D you need to take.

That is extremely wonderful news! I feel that, when I operate a mouse, my fingers want to twitch still; and the nerves do a little, but the drawing feels smoother than it has done in years. I maintain the dosage at Magtein 667mg x 2, one in the morning and one in the evening; and two Theanine, two capsules @ 100mg in the morning.

I have dropped the Nutrasleep for a short while, just to see if the improvement maintains - the valerian was giving me a thick headed feeling, and since I don't suffer from headaches at all, I've put it to a side effect from that. Will try the Nutrasleep again perhaps as an experiment for a few days shortly. Again, wonderful news, upon which I hope you find continual improvement.

Apologies for the delay. Let me first say, that I had always suffered from nervous problems and wasn't aware of any family history of ETs, so that what I thought was merely shaking to my anxiety, was probably the start if the tremors. Considering that I am fifty three now, I would say that the problem had been steadily building during the last decade. I can certainly say I did not have them in 1999 when I did my last painting. The strain of one to one caring did me no good whatsoever, going on far too long for my own good and led to a complete physical and mental breakdown. It is because of this that I cannot be more accurate. I'm sorry. However, no supplement did me any good until I started on MSM. That I can say was a turning point. Two tablets of 500mg made a subtle, though immediate overnight improvement. Enough for me to take notice! I was also on the track of other means of supplementation to control or eliminate the tremors and various ideas as to what to aim for.

I would say that, after starting the regimen that I am on now, subtle benefits took a week, building to a revelatory improvement inside three weeks. At two months, I see a twitch in the nerves which happens occasionally, but not with such regularity as to upset my drawing. I still have a difficulty with cursive writing but that is a very chronic problem and probably because I have avoiding it for many years, so that will be the last to settle, if at all. Sorry to be so long winded, but I thought it best to be, as opposed to giving non informative sound bytes. I hope that you find a significant difference very soon. All my very best wishes.

Hi John, thanks for your reply. I'm actually being treated for a hypothyroid but not on any meds. I have continued taking Magtein and have experienced minute improvements. Perhaps over time they will increase. I'm also going to try the L-Theanine capsules (minus Gaba and Relora).

I am extremely saddened that this has not worked for you. I am aware of Thyroid problems within my own family, unfortunately no awareness of where they are. I take it that it is hyperthyroidism of which you speak? I note from one who claims to be an expert that Vitamin C deficiency can encourage more of the thyroid hormone. I must note that I have only read this and from one source. Of course, unlike many mammals, we cannot biosynthesize this ourselves and usually within the body's functions, most everything we do requires it in the equation one way or another and among the vitamins it is also the most easily lost in storing, preparation and even digestion, then having an extremely short life in the body and being water soluble also easily lost in the urine. Unfortunately it seems that causes of tremors are of a multitude, but C is the most common deficiency along with magnesium, selenium and nutritional sulphur (MSM). However care must be taken regarding supplementation and MSM can increase the effect of various things like alcohol and possibly other things, thinking if you are taking medication so if you go that particular route, research and ask your doctor. I am not on medication and can say that, for my own problems, MSM has done me good. There are no guarantees as you must be well aware that it will likewise for you. I really hope you can find you answers soon. For the meantime, I take it that you will discontinue the mag, the threonate and the nutrasleep. Go easy and I wish you all the luck in the world in finding a remedy that suits you.

Hello, I really enjoy reading all the encouraging posts on this site. I started the Theanine capsules, Nutrasleep and Magnesium Threonate regimen 1 week ago and am perplexed on why they've been stimulating my ET condition instead of calming my nerves and provide no relief. Also, my eyes have started twitching throughout the day. The tremors are in my dominant left hand (I can no longer write/eat with it) along with a bobbing head.

After I take the Theanine Serene with Relora (1 tablet) or the Magtein (1 capsule), I become more jittery and fatigue. The Nutrasleep (1 tablet) helps me sleep soundly but has had no effect on tremors during day. All supplements are from Source Naturals.

I'm a gluten & lactose free eater, take no prescription drugs, coffee, or artificial sweetners. I'm taking iodine for my thyroid, along with a multi-vitamin, calcium, and vitamins D3 & B12. I'm perplexed as to why Theanine, Magtein, or Nutrasleep has had an opposite effect on my nervous system. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I started using tremadone 2 months ago. I have ET in my head. They get so bad I had to sit or lay down to keep my head still. I tried propanolol, topamax, primadone, inderol, all without success and horrible side effects. The dr started me on botox shots in the neck every 3 months. 4000.00 a pop, could not afford it even after insurance. Tremadone has taken the tremors away apporoximately 95%. I only take one at night. unbelievable. Reading all your posts, I am going to try the gluten free route. Good luck.

If you are referring to the 'combo' med used by Soazburrolady's husband, then she is referring to Theanine Serene.

I, myself have found equally satisfying results from using Theanine capsules, Nutrasleep and Magnesium Threonate. taking two Theanine at 100mg and one of Magtein at 667mg and two Nutrasleep and a further Magtein late afternoon/early evening. basically I found the alternative because I wasn't sure if I wanted to take the Magnolia Officianalis in the Theanine Serene which contains the Relora.

However, here's a possible in case you feel the same way. there have been reports I've read of side effects associated with the Relora by some people who have tried it. However not all have had the reported problems.

Hello again!

Have to report that I'm much better. My drawing is pretty much back to form with only a minor twitch in the arm and base of thumb occasionally. Small improvements every day. I have been gluten free for two weeks and I also take Magnesium L-Threonate - two Source Naturals capsules @ 667mg - and two capsules of Theanine @100mg in the morning with a glass of spring water and a quarter spoon of Methylsufonylmethane (MSM). A multi-nutrient for my skin at midday - will provide details of this nutrient if needed, but I was taking this for a long time with no effect on the tremors whatever - and in the late afternoon I take two Nutrasleep again from Source Naturals. very positive about the result.

Will update, if or if not the result is consistent.

I am having tremor of my hands and I was tested for Parkinson and the neurologist said it is not but could be essential tremor. He suggested some medicine but I refused as I already take medicine for Diabetes cholesterol HBP and I didn't want to damage my Liver and Kidneys.

After coming across this website I started on ACV and BSM. I also saw Mucuna on the introduction page and saw Susan's comment. Just went and bought Mucuna Powder according to their website we can use one tea spoon in warm water or in some juice etc.

My question to Susan-- Are you using any other supplements with it? Any answer will be greatly appreciated

Many, many thanks for your response. I am relieved to hear your husband's tremors are under control. I understand the plight regarding the need for fine motor control and wish him well for continued success. I hope that what I am doing may result in success similarly. I may tentatively try the Theanine Serene should this attempt fail and will report back, just in case other people have had a problem with the Relora. The problem seems to have been handed down along with the X-linked Ichthyosis that I have, this also my Uncle had and also various dyspraxic traits. The tremor is relatively recent. I am 53 and had been a one-to-one carer for many years. When my caring came to a natural conclusion I was exhausted, but thought that finally I could pursue my life's centre which is art. Then along came the tremor. As you can see, the frustration is untenable. You can gather that this page and your posting of your husband's results is so very important to me. I hope we can benefit from his experience. We are such complicated beings and if only there was not so much trial and error when these things hamper us. My very best wishes.

Soazburrolady: I have just started taking Magtein and Nutrasleep, the latter as it contains GABA, Taurine Magnesium etc, ( as close as I can to the Theanine Serene ) and L-Theanine. I was a little wary of the Magnolia Officinalis as I had read reports of vivid nightmares accompanying the Relora in the Theanine Serene. I was just wondering, a few months on, how is your husband coping and have the tremors remained under controls or have they gone? I, myself, would really like to get back to work, but my tremors have knocked my confidence in being able to continue. I can draw, but my speed is well down as if I attempt to speed up or apply pressure the tremors start up and control lost. It also wears me down trying to maintain the control needed for the fine work and am continually on the brink of depression at the thought that I may have to give up the work that is the centre of my life. My uncle also had very bad tremor.

While I'd never heard of Jogging In A Jug, the recipe was easy to find via Google.

I checked several sites and with only one exception, all had the same ingredients, but in different amounts. (That one exception was a recipe that included honey. The other recipes did not include honey.)

Here are the basics:

-1 quart red grape juice

-2 quarts apple juice

-3/4 cup ACV (Only one site specified Bragg's brand. The others just mentioned regular, old ACV.)

-3/4 cup honey, optional

Mix it all up, keep it refrigerated and drink 1/2 to 1 cup per day.

I, personally, wouldn't add the honey. Between the juices *and* the honey, that's a whole lot of sugar.

Magnesium Glycinate is one of the best absorbed forms of Magnesium. Most everyone is low in Magnesium. Dosing 5x Elemental mg body weight in lbs. It will take time to restore Mg, so give it time, months. Other health issues would also be corrected along the way.

You could also add Mag L Threonate 2 caps a day, one at daytime and one before bed. 48 mg elemental Mg per cap. In combo with Mg Glycinate. Mag L T is the only form that would cross the blood brain barrier so this form of Mg could help the tremors in a shorter time.

Mucuna Pruriens has almost eliminated the very noticeable shaking of my neck/head and hands for 15 years. Doctor said he thought it was "essential tremors", not Parkinson's but I'm not so sure. I suspect he was influenced by my otherwise excellent health. Even if I have ET, MP may help this symptom for those with Parkinson's.

After one brand of MP (Herbs Forever) had no effect after months of use, I persevered and ended up finding two excellent products online. I tried both for comparison and found them to be equally effective: Barlowe's Elixirs and Keter Wellness. With each, improvement was noticeable in less than a week; I followed the dosage on the bottle - two capsules per day. If I don't take the MP for several days, some shaking returns.

I was so embarrassed for so long and now people don't stare at me any more. There is just a little trembling left in one hand and a little flair up under situational stress.

The supplements we used for my husband (and he remains tremor free to this day) are: Magtein and Theanine Serene with Relora - both from a company named "Source Naturals". I forgot to include acetyl-L-carnitine (which he also takes) in my last post. It is available from many companies. I use Amazon, Lucky Vitamins, or I- Herbs to buy most of my supplements - and it is definitely worth the time to comparison shop. The best to you both.

Hi - this is about where to find the products you mentioned, that help to eliminate uncontrollable hand-shaking. I just started working (donating my time) at a local Thrift Shop where things are taken in and then sold for next to nothing and one of the older guys who I'm working with - his hands shake so uncontrollable - just writing a price on a ticket is a major accomplishment. Because I have been a Homeopathic subscriber for many years, - Homeopathy immediately came to my mind - but sadly, my three manuals got lost in my many moves and transmissions, plus my small homeopathic travel kit with 30 assorted remedies but several remedies that came to mind were Mag Phos or Mag Sulph but I don't have my books any longer to tell me their characteristics. Could you possibly provide what you have as what to get and where to get it / them? I really wanna help the old guy. He's a very intelligent, former Disney mechanical engineer and he's 80, but a great guy and never complains - he just lives with it and I'm sure homeopathy will help! If you suffer from essential tremors, you might consider riboflavin. Riboflavin alone seems to mitigate this condition as I was seemingly going into full blown Parkinsons before I took this and only this. The b-complex was not therapeutic btw. I hope this post helps someone!

I had had some shakiness in the past few years, most notably when I was hungry, nervous, or angry. I'm now 9 weeks pregnant and it had gotten much worse. I was very frightened that perhaps I had a neurological problem. I tried to isolate possible problem, and decided it could be one of the following: Thyroid, neurological damage, blood sugar, blood pressure, vitamin or mineral deficiency, or an anxiety disorder.

My husband and I have been doing Dr. Batman's "Water Cure" for nearly a year with spectacular results. That is simply drinking half your body weight in ounces of water, and dissolving a few pinches of sea salt on your tongue daily.

Well, I realized perhaps it was really due to drops in my slightly low blood pressure, and I read up on how to raise it. Salt. I realized since I got pregnant, I'd reduced my salt intake because I wasn't sure if it was good for my baby.

So I started taking the pinches of salt again, and that awful daily shaking is GONE GONE GONE. I am so happy. My hands are steady again, that horrible shaking has ceased. I only take a few pinches a day.

For the record, the shaking was like an intentional tremor, so if I was drinking from a glass, or trying to lay a sheet of paper on a pile, it would really tremble. If I was trying to do something, like say, plug a charger into my cell phone, or put the key in the ignition of my car, it would tremble and make it hard to do. I am a 40 year old woman in overall excellent health.

I think you have nothing to lose, and quite possibly everything to gain, by trying sea salt. It's cheap and if it works, you'll be happy. I don't have any definite reason WHY I was shaking but I do know it has STOPPED since the very day I began the salt again. I don't know if it will help everyone, or anyone but if it does help anyone, that would be wonderful.

A few years back, my husband developed an essential (or intention) tremor in his hands. At first it bothered him only when upset or tired, but gradually started to affect him full time. As my husband makes his living as an OR nurse and needs to have fine motor skills for his job performance, it became imperative to find a treatment or cure. After researching the problem, we decided to hit him with the whole shebang of potential treatments. The most important seemed to be Magnesium L-threonate, GABA, Taurine, and L-theanine. Fortunately, as some have mentioned, the Magnesium L-threonate does not cause or aggravate diarrhea. I am really happy to report that my husband's tremor has basically disappeared. He takes other supplements also, but was taking them prior to the onset of the tremors. We have also eliminated any aspartame and eat only very small amounts of gluten. I am not sure if I am allowed to mention a specific product, but there is a tablet available from a reputable "Source" that contains the combo of GABA, Taurine, L-Theanine, Magnesium chelate, and some herbal extracts that simplifies the process. I have tried Primidone with slight improvements, but stomach aches and fatigue. Also tried a barbituate which worked well, but I was exhausted (plus it's addictive). Dropped diet coke and my ET improved dramatically for months, but returned. I'm 61 and have had this for 5 years. My handwriting sucks. I'll try anything. I'm going gluten-free starting tomorrow to see if that works.

I have colon problems, 1 1/2 ft removed, so I have constipation problems as well as essential tremors. Currently I am taking 250 mg of Primidone and 75 mg of Topiramate a day and I still have bad shaking spells. I do not drink sodas but I do have 1 cup of coffee each morning but it is 1/2 decaf. I use an artificial sweetener which I will discontinue after reading this board. I am wondering which MG product would be best for my situation and would appreciate a reply. Hi guys, here's another person who became tremor-free after eating a gluten-free diet... Linda Lapeer, Mi said...My daughter, is an active college student attending college and playing college volleyball. Last Sept, 2010 she was at a volleyball tournament and she developed a severe tremor in her legs...

...Long story short, I read the book and was given hope that there might be a cure for her tremors. I told my daughter that we needed to make an appointment with an environmental physician as well as start on an elimination diet, adding one food to her diet per day to see if different foods affected her.

On the diet, she ate only fruit the first day, then vegeys and finally meat. She was tremor free for a few days, then on day 4 she ate some whole wheat toast before volleyball practice and her tremors started immediately. We researched wheat and suspected gluten was the cause of her tremors. We experimented with other wheat products; pasta, bread, cake and they all caused her tremors to return.

It has now been 3 weeks, she has eliminated all foods containing gluten from her diet and her tremors are non-existent. We have an appointment with an environmental physician (basically an advanced allergist) in a month but I feel we have already found the cure.

I urge anyone that has tremors, tics, etc. To investigate their diet and environment before they decide that their condition is hopeless and there is no cure. Gluten has been linked to MS, tics, tremors, tourette's syndrome, cancer, autism, RA, ADD as well as depression.

I reckon Gluten-intolerance is the root cause of many essential tremors. I have read Gluten may is indeed be a very common cause of essential tremors.

Even without any gastrointestinal symptoms you can have Gluten-intolerance/Celiac disease. I am very grateful I found out about Gluten causing tremors, very happy.

Transdermal magnesium can irritate the skin in some people.
