When taking Apple Cider Vinegar make sure that it is Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar. I buy the Bragg brand it is the best one available. I had real bad heartburn & took a tsp in 4 ozs of water & it seemed to make it worse. So I called the company that makes it to ask for any suggestions on taking it they told me to take a 1/2 to 1 tsp with 8 to 10 ozs of water 15 minutes before my meals & 15 minutes after my meals. He said that I did not have it diluted enough & that was what was causing the burn. I also made the water warm when I took it. I did rinse my mouth out after taking it so as not to cause any problems with my teeth. I took Betaine HCL Pepsin with my meals. Then 1/2 hour after each meal I also take 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of baking soda in 8 ozs of water. I had amazing results in only 1 day I had complete relief. There is a test to see if one has enough acid or not enough acid in there stomach. Here is a link to the web site to do a at home test, it is the 3rd one on the list. www.scdlifestyle.com/2012/03/3-tests-for-low-stomach-acid. Hope this post gives some relief for heartburn suffers.

After reading your site and seeing all the feedback about apples helping with heartburn, I decided to take the test. I abruptly quit my OTC heartburn medicine, which I had been taking for many years. I started eating an apple when I felt heartburn coming on or before bedtime. Almost a week later I am happy to say I am heartburn free! I've struggled with both heartburn and acid reflux for many years and this is the best I have felt in some time! Thank you for your site and to the many readers who had given their feedback! I am going to tell everyone about this miracle for me!

Apples is also what I use for heartburn. They stamp heartburn out almost instantly for me. I also found that eating a pear can do just as well.

A very good remedy for constipation and heartburn is: peel and core apples (sweet or sour) put them in a freezer ziploc bag (add 1 tablespoon of bottled lemon juice 2 tablespoons of water/gal. bag) and freeze. They come out like really good applesauce and are well worth the time spent. Here in Ohio when winter rolls around the apples are 3x the price and have no flavor. If you suffer from chronic constipation and heartburn they will especially help if you eat before bedtime. Hope this helps someone. God Bless.

I suffer from all kinds of gastro ailments. One night i couldn't sleep with the heartburn. The prevacid wasn't helping at that point and i felt very bad. I remembered I had read about apples for heartburn, and I thought, "what is there to lose." right after eating the apple I fell sound asleep! Thought someone might find this of interest.

I'm pregnant and have been having horrible heartburn. I do not suggest the apples because that causes my heartburn. Real ones or juice.

I have heartburn for months. The medicine gave me allergy. I drank strong ginger tea to temporary cure (immediately) normally. But it has sugar and I don't want to drink too much sugar. So I made my own ginger tea. I blended (blendtec or vitamix) the whole ginger with water. Keep it in the fridge. Pour about 1 cup and add 1 cup of water to bring it to boil. Drink it in the morning and night before bed. I felt a lot better, no heartburn at all. I don't know how long to take to cure the heartburn. I have tried a couple days only.

I first noticed a sore throat on Sept 2009 that would not go away, I was then diagnosed with Gerd. I tried PPI's (some relief), Gaviscon (only temp relief). After alot of research, I came by an article that mentioned that GERD is often a symptom of an underlying condition, often Candida. I asked my doctor about this, he told me that natural path practioners often refer to Candida, but that there really is not much proof available about the condition. Not discouraged, I decided to try the strictest Anti-Candida diet (it is an 8 week diet).

To my surprise, the GERD totally disappeared after the first week of the diet. I could eat as much as I want, as long as it is the specified foods in the diet. After 4 weeks on the diet, I lost 20 lbs and am feeling great. I decided not to go more than 4 weeks on the diet as I would lose too much wieght.

I will now try some Anti-Candida supplements, apparently candida is an overgrowth of yeast in the body, caused by over consumption of sugar or stress.

I had my first episode of heartburn and chest pain about 5 days ago. My stomach has not been the same. I feel bloated immediately after I eat and the last two days I have had some dyrhea. Eating apples and taking two teaspoons of acv stopped my heart burn and chest pain but why do I still feel bloated after I eat and why is my urine very yellow?

I have the same symptoms when I eat more than 1 piece of bread - severe heartburn and bloating. Are you tender anywhere in your stomach? If so, it might be an obstruction in your colon caused by food. You can lay on your stomach and dig your fist into your stomach to help move the food along the colon. Licorice DGL has helped with the pain whenever I have this issue as does drinking distilled water.

To Katherine from New York. Have you considered eliminating ALL gluten-containing foods (wheat, oatmeal, barley are the worst offenders) from your diet for at least six weeks as an experiment to see whether your condition improves? You can have gluten sensitivity that is "subclinical" in nature, that is, not full-blown celiac disease, which is an extremely debilitating condition that can cause substantial damage to your gastrointestinal tract. I found out that I have this sensitivity when I eliminated gluten from my diet about 20 months ago. I no longer have GERD (acid reflux) for which I took proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) drugs for about 8 years.

To Elaine from Columbia, SC. Since your gastrointestinal upset is very recent (and sudden), you should investigate whether you have suffered some form of food poisoning or other insult to your diet. If your bloating symptoms don't resolve in two more weeks, you could consult a naturopathic doctor (ND) or another type of alternative medicine doctor who is well versed in issues of diet and knowledgeable about nutritional supplementation. Regarding urine color, be sure to drink enough water for your daily needs, but don't overdo it. Never drink a lot of fluid during or right after a meal--that dilutes your stomach acid and digestive enzymes too much, and you need these at peak concentration in order to digest your food properly.

I have dealt with heart burn all my life and have tried many things including acv. Baking soda is by far the best. It is the world champ, make no mistake. It beats all else! It Also instantly fights Colds and the Flu.

Yesterday at the park my friend's daughter was uncomfortable with heartburn. I said I had some baking soda if she wanted to try it. (I try to keep a small container of baking soda in my purse at all times.) We put about ¼ teaspoon in about 4 ounces of water and she drank it down and it took care of her heartburn!

Next time you are at the store, pick up a box of baking soda and leave it in your car for emergencies. Not just heartburn - insect bites, bee stings, etc.

Hi, I used a lesser amount of Baking Soda for several months because I had very acute pain from heart burn (the heartburn had been ongoing for years.. I got the idea for Baking Soda one night when I thought I was dying).. I would take 1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon in 8 ounce glass of water whenever I had symptoms, usually only 2 or 3 times daily. The heartburn went away right away but I would have mild reaccurance and therefore I would take another glass of water with the Baking Soda. Eventually, I almost never get heartburn. I found that certain foods would be a catalyst to heartburn (or if my digestion was slow).. For me most ice cream, cake, and pie were triggers. Heavy meat (anything that is hard to digest). I eat more carefully.... less processed or fast food... more salads... One symptom with the baking soda was that if I took it too frequent I would get minor diarrhea but it would come on fast and made it so I could hardly ever go out.. I figured it out and cut back on the use of the Baking Soda... Turns out I was taking it too often and really didn't need it anymore... That is what I believe...

Hi All-Decided to take baking soda to treat a bad bout of heartburn. Thought to take about 1/3 teaspoon morning and evening. Didn't think it would have any effect on a very large semi-external hemorroid which felt like a small pink finger (yikes! ) and was quite surprised when that darn thing vanished almost overnight! So then thought there must be a connection between the two; heartburn & hemmoroids. Anyway, continued the treatment maybe about a week and that was that pretty much it! Had to share! Hope it can help others! In good health, Martha

Hello Maribelacuna,

for hemorrhoids, if you don't mind a few hours of good sleep at night, give Melatonin a try. Do not take melatonin if you have to drive. Melatonin was a game changer for me and I only took it a week or two. I have to be alert at any moment to pray.

In case you have not heard of Melantonin before, it is a supplement you can purchase at the Vitamin store, on even on line. I used 3mg and extra some days, but extra meant extra sleep also, so keep that in mind.

I do not recall if it helped what I originally took it for, because I did not take it long enough. But I do know that it healed my hemorrhoids.

The baking soda and water works. My chest was burning and I couldn't sleep, so I mixed a lil bit of baking soda in a cup of water and it instanly made me feel better. My chest actually felt cool afterwards. This works great.

Every time I get heartburn I always put a teaspoon of baking soda in about 3 ounces of warm water and chug it down. Gets rid of it every time. My grandmother taught me this.

Baking Soda (1 teaspoon) mixed with water (3-4 oz) did help, BUT vomiting is NOT an option!

I had heartburn once and treated it quickly with ginger ale. It only took less than half a mouthful and worked as soon as I swallowed it. I believe the carbonation was the reason it worked and not the ginger. If this is so then other carbonated beverages like cola and carbonated water should also work. I would be interested if someone could try these out and get back to me. Thanks and hope this works.

HI U DON, , , , , , , , sit down and let me tell you a story. The reason Coca-Cola bottles were originally designed the way they were was because of the pressure the carbonation built up in the bottle. The pH of a coke in the 40's and 50's was 2.4 and that's quite acidic. If you had an upset stomach then your mom gave you a coke to drink. As kids, we had contests to see who could drink a 6 oz coke without stopping. No one could because the CO2 came out your nose, ears, eyes and everywhere.

Soda's today have very little carbonation and will not settle your tummy. They contain corn syrup and will only give you a butt. Get a kick out of today's young folks who think history began when they were born. We had an advantage because we had parents that told us stories of the the past.

Time is neigh and our culture is changing and passing me by.

O.R.H. I think not the younger generation is "passing you bye" as most seem to me going in circles and you have moved forward and close to the finish line.

I love the line from Al Stewart, "Oh, the more it changes - the more it stays the same - and the hand just rearranges - the players in the game".

I suppose a hardened realist like yourself has the courage to face the facts and truths of life and drop out playing the win/loose game. Was it H.W. Longfellow said "Life is real - life is earnest".
