I've discovered this also works for hiccups:

1. Sit down on ground.
2. Put your head between your knees.
3. Hold breath for as long as you can.

I hate the hiccups and upon getting them this afternoon, I quickly looked up this technique on EC.com --I am quite relieved to say, yes, it worked!!

Take three deep breaths, and then on the third breath, hold it as long as you can. I was told this by my anatomy teacher who says hiccups are nothing but your diaphragm having a spasm. So taking three deep breaths and holding the last one stretches your diaphragm, and therefore stops the hiccups. I have tried this many times, and it does work instantly.

Hello, I wanted to add that the 2+1 BREATH method for hiccups which requires you to take three deep breaths, and then on the third breath, hold it as long as you can, as described by Jess works. I had the hiccups and the above method cured them immediately. Thanks again earth clinic (and Jess)!

Wow this really does work I just tried this and my hiccups were gone instantly. Just make sure you're not sucking in your stomach otherwise you won't be breathing through with your diaphragm.

My girlfriends son has had chronic hiccups since before birth. He gets them at least once a week. Often a bout of laughter triggering an episode. This helped immediately.

Right before my very eyes this stopped my husband's torturous hiccups instantly! (2+1 breathe and hold) This is his second round of cisplatin. First time he had a few hiccups everyday and they went away. Last night he had them for well over an hour to no avail. Thank you so very much.

i don't usually have hiccups but when it does it really bothers me because it last for so many hours and even days. i tried so many remedies like holding my breath for as long as i can, but it didn't work, so i searched the net and this is what i found that cured my hiccups....take a deep breath using your mouth until your lung is full.. DO NOT BREATH (PINCH YOUR NOSE SO THAT NO AIR CAN ESCAPE) swallow, or pretend that you are swallowing something, inhale more air through your mouth while holding your breath, swallow, inhale then swallow..by this time you might be turning pale...release your breath through your nose.....it worked for me and i hope it will for you...if it does please let me know.

Hi, Ever since when I was a little kid, I had heard many things but only one worked for me. I hold my breath for about 6 secs (if you hiccup while holding your breath start over) and continue doing this for about 4-5 times and it should be gone. Good Luck.

Homeopathic Remedy Cuprum Metallicum

Hello.

I'd like to post this please. It's long, but very important.

For many years now I've had intractable hiccups (99%) nocturnal and (1% daytime). I don't know where else to turn. Now, this is not the typical hiccups so peanut butter and sugar (which is a poison) will not help.

It occurs on and off, meaning that it may happen for several months and then all of a sudden nothing for 1 day to 2 weeks.

I've checked for potential food allergies - nothing!

For years I was on a plant based only diet (as a lifestyle) until recently I started eating sardines. I do not eat fast foods or processed meals. All of my meals are made at home.

I take my omegas, vitamin D, trace minerals, and aminos daily. I exercise 2-3 times a week.

I need to know if anyone else here is experiencing this or has found a resolution to this problem.

Here's more info according to a hiccup article on naturalnews.com.

Complications of Intractable Hiccups:
(1) Cardiac arrhythmias: Liver chi stagnation disrupts the wind energy causing Cardiac arrhythmia (a wind disorder of heart). If you treat the liver chi stagnation, the arrhythmia will be cured.
(2) Gastro esophageal reflux: due to stomach chi rebelling upwards.

Now I do not want to take muscle relaxants or antidepressants which some places suggest.

However, I did find a temporary solution which turned out to still be temporary because I've been taking it for years - but no cure. It's called "Cuprum Metallicum" which is a homeopathic remedy.

Once I take it, sometimes I can drift right back to sleep. About 30% of the time it's not so easy.

It feels like I'm having an attack if I ignore it and try to keep on sleeping.

Does anyone here have this issue? It's not your typical hiccup.

after one week of hiccups the cure has been a level teaspoon of honey which stops the undesirable effect after two to three minutes, overall condition improving. Tried most of the above cures but to no good effect.

When my husband gets the hiccups, he first tries a few bites of good quality ice cream. If this is unsuccessful, he takes four to six organic, cold-pressed barley pills. He has had 100% success in ridding himself from the hiccups.

Inhale Then Exhale: Inhale at a moderate and comfortable speed while arching your back and puffing out your chest until you cannot breathe in any more air, and then exhale also at a moderate and comfortable speed. Repeat if hiccupping continues.

Someone was suggesting a way to stop hiccups here a while ago. Here is another remedy, not that I have tried it yet as I seldom get hiccups but maybe somone can try it and tell me whether it works (I will do the same if in the meanwhile I do get hiccups): Put 1 drop of lemon essential oil on the tongue, it even works for babies although they might not like the taste, my book says.....

I was a bartender too. You're right about the lemons. I would take just one lemon wedge, give it a quick suck, and hiccups....GONE! It took some talking to get my customers to try it, but once they did....they were amazed!

I was a bartender and there is a cure for hiccups I did not see. A shot of lemon juice and the hiccups are gone.

My mother always gave me malt vinegar for hiccups, when I was a child, and it worked immediately every single time. Assuming it's available, these other weird and wonderful remedies (which don't always work anyway)can't touch vinegar for effect. I believe it works on the vagus nerve, and affects the diaphragm in some way.

Wow, this really worked for me! I had hiccups this past weekend. Whenever I come down with them I tend to get them multiple times (4-5) for the rest of that day. After reading this post and getting them twice later in the night, I took a quick capful of Apple Cider Vinegar, and instantly my hiccups ceased! I got them again about an hour later and again took them down with the vinegar cure!

In the past I have always been able to cease hiccups with the holding breath method. This evening I tried for at least 20 minutes holding my breath and for some reason it wasn't working. Got on Earth Clinic and tried the peanut butter technique. After one spoonful of peanut butter, not one hiccup! I love this website!
