Dry Brushing, Oil
Posted by Jane (Durham, Oregon, Usa) on 11/08/2010

I stopped using soap of any kind, anywhere on my body and prior to shower I use natural bristle brush and in circular motions, start from feet and work my way up to chest. For Women chest and face are tender so use natural sponge. It sloughs old skin cells and I moisturize after with Cosmetic use, Sweet Almond oil and my skin is looking better day by day and skin feels exstremly clean and soft. I am 55 so my skin is looking less attractive than my youth. I am a proponant of only USA made products (start to finish)so I had to look at labels. Unfortunate challenge but I persevere.

African Red Tea, Blackstrap Molasses
Posted by Nalo (Ny, New York) on 10/23/2010

Hi- I was very excited to have found a use for my black strap molasses after reading that it could be used as a facial. So I washed my face and put molasses on my forehead, cheeks, jaw and nose, leaving it on for almost an hour. For two days one day off and then another day on. The morning after the third application I found small bumps completely covering areas where molasses was applied. Im figuring I left it on too long or that it doesnt work for me as a facial... Any comments?

Ghee

Ok - I have very dry skin. Cool air, wind, all of these make my skin feel tight, dry and itchy. Recently I discovered that ghee (clarified butter) rubbed on my skin at night made it feel much better and I wake up with younger skin. So - I started putting it near my eyes and on my eyelashes and it would get into my eyes and it felt good. I have had fatty deposits on my eyeballs for a while now and usually can't drive at night and have to wear reading glasses to read (i am 50) but imagine my surprise when I had to drive in the dark for an emergency and had no trouble! And also I found myself not reaching for my reading glasses as often!!! Now I put the ghee into my eyes every night. Also my eyes are whiter in the morning and I have almost no crows feet!!! Amazing!!!

Homeopathic Skincare

I found a co. that maked homeopathic skincare! So rare. I spoke to a lady who is an expert on shingles and she put on HGH Trauma Fix(sp?) which has homeopathics and the pain stopped! One guy told me he put this same gel on his psoriasis and it cleared up much to his doctor's surprise. Just sharing.

So sorry about your dad. This happened to me and I believe that it was *shingles* brought on by stress, I had exact same sore to touch skin, I never got blisters that some get with shingles just the extreme sensitive skin;try taking supplements to treat viruses like elderberry, lysine, and immunity builders, hope this helps!

Hi Jeepgirl - This may not even be applicable, but if you put a laptop on your lap/knees, you can experience extreme sensitivity in your skin - especially the left side. I've read that the optical drives of laptops are located on the left side and can damage skin. Some people even put their laptops on their stomachs while stretched out on the couch or bed. Perhaps a light massage of aloe vera gel (or even coconut oil) with a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed in might help with the sensitivity until you find the true cause of it. Good luck!

For about 3 months now the skin on my left leg above the knee has become very sensitive and now it is on my stomach. It feels as though something has rubbed the skin and made it sore. I have no rash of any kind, no fever or headache in fact I'm in great health except for the sensitive skin. ACV hasn't helped. I have tried eucalyptus oil, lotions and anything I can think of... I need help! I have been under a lot of stress lately. My father fell and broke his neck in Jan. And so I was at the hospital everyday, all day then he passed away in April so now I am trying to help my mother. Maybe, it's stress that causing my problem? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi, I am seeking any information on the above chemical/salt compound which is used as a preservative in food/cosmetics etc. I believe the main source is from toluene which I don't fancy, but I can't find anything that satisifies me as to its' being inoccuous or otherwise. I am considering purchasing a so called natural skin cream which contains this ingredient and am hoping yourselves or Ted perhaps can allay my fears. Thank you for a wonderful site and I have passed your information on to many who have benefited greatly from what is found here. Hoping this is not too much to ask. Sincerely Andrea

EC: Hi Andrea, what is the name of the chemical/salt compound you are seeking information about? Thanks..

Ryegrass
Posted by Tom (Regina, Sk ) on 09/10/2010

Hi! Hope someone reads this under the appropriate section. There is a skin cream newly developed by the same Aussie company Oralmat that makes the asthma & allergy drops, out since the late 1990's. Yet once again, it's almost completely unknown. It is not prescription, and looks like it's selling on a UK site, for example, for about L 8. 5 (about $12-$15) for a 50 g tube. There is also a 25g size tube. Since it's a very specific commercial lab extraction and blend of a very common plant (ryegrass), and not a homemade recipe, I can't give the links.

Comment: I'm not sure I've ever seen any post here from anyone in Australia? That could be why this company's products are unknown still.

I get alot of compliments on my skin from both ladies and men, I am 49, recently the ladies I work with asked me to write down what I use because I have no wrinkles and tend to look like I am still in my 30's. Here is what I use,

EXTERNALLY: Instead of soaps, I wash with Aura Acacia lavender scented mineral salts, (consisting of: baking soda, sea salt, borax and lavender essential oil) I use it on my whole body, NOTE: On my face I am VERY gentle to avoid breaks in the skin, it exfoliates the skin, and afterwards your skin feels AMAZING! Then I use Jojoba oil to moisturize and organic toner to replace the pH on my skin. The whole process leaves my skin glowing and smooth, not oily or shiny.

INTERNALLY: I take Hyaluronic Acid, which helps keep skin hydrated and smooth, Omega-3 (2) 1000 to 1200 caps per day, and several minerals including calcium, magnesium etc. Drink plenty of water, the more alkaline you stay the better, avoiding the acid stuff like dairy, or red meats. I exercise daily as well. The result is I hardly get sick, and look years younger, as a bonus, men notice me more and many times they are younger than me!

Egg whites are incredible for your skin! (mind you don't have a food allergy to them)
Apply to your face and neck at night (dries pretty fast) and wash off in the AM. For daytime use, Mix the egg white with a little water. It's clear and dries without flaking. Best beauty tip from grandma EVER! :)

I've had acne since I can remember. I've been on every drug available pretty much, up to and including accutaine/isotrenin. I was fed up and about to go back for more Big Pharma when I found out about this site, and I have to say, this is probably my favorite remedy. I make a paste with about 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp honey and 1/2 tsp hydrogen peroxide. I leave it on for about 10 minutes. Yes, it makes my face yellow, and yes, I have to work to get it off - I usually use a face scrub and more hydrogen peroxide - but it's worth it. My skin is more toned, smaller pores, acne flares dried up a little. And what's more, my turmeric is old and has been sitting in my pantry for a good 10 years or so, and I still get good results. Imagine if it was fresh!

Nutrient Masks

Nutrient Masks I use:

1/4 of a Banana + 1 tablespoon of honey = for facial smoothing and nutrient cleanse.
Leave on 30 minutes before rinsing.

1 tablespoon honey with 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt = for glowing skin.
Leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing. This remedy is a popular skin remedy in the Middle East.

1-2 egg whites = cleansing mask, sucks out all impurities on your skin.
Allow egg whites to dry, then allow an additional 5 minutes before rinsing.

Hello,

I have a quick question but one that's serious for me. I am using hydrogen peroxide as a toner and it has done wonders to my skin. But I keep hearing about how it is an oxidant and that it will cause my skin to age; is this true? Should I stop using it on my face? This is my fear thank you.

Oatmeal and Baking Soda Scrub

Oatmeal and Baking Soda Scrub
Posted by Jk (Lorimor, Ia, Usa) on 05/15/2010

Tee, I just grab a handful of oatmeal from the box and mix in enough baking soda until it kind of looks good. I keep it in a container and when I'm in the shower I just rub this into my face like any facial scrub. I do this twice a day, but I have pretty tough skin and also very oily. If you have any acne, it may tingle a little. I love the results! I'm also trying it on my cellulite on my legs. We'll see?!?

This may be a silly question but did you cook the oatmeal before mixing it?Also did you use it as a mask and let it sit?

I have always had oily skin and small bumps on my face and neck. I mixed up some oatmeal and baking soda and use it everyday on my face. The bumps went away and so did the oily skin. I noticed that the more baking soda I put in, the less oily my skin is. Worked great!

Raw Cocoa Butter
Posted by Lisa (Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa) on 04/22/2010

Okay, the raw organic cacao butter is from a great company called Ultimate superfoods which is a very reasonably priced co. They have very high quality products and are spoken of highly in the raw community. I found mine at a great health food store/restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, CA. Our Whole Foods carries some of Ultimate's products but I'm not sure if it's because they are a very local co. I also know it can be ordered online. The bag I found was in the raw food section and is a 2 oz. bag. Go into the food section, not the beauty products section. Items tend to be less expensive there.
Lisa

EC: Thank you so much, Lisa! I searched the beauty and peanut butter/almond butter aisles at Whole Foods today and couldn't find it. I had the feeling I was in the wrong section!

Raw Cocoa Butter

Hi Carlos,

I just had to respond to this! Okay, after reading your testimony about raw cacao butter, I went to the health food store and bought some raw organic cacao butter which was very reasonably priced I might add. I too, use many natural oils on my face because my skin is very sensitive and can easily react to any chemicals or additives in face products. I use grapeseed oil, coconut oil, sea buckthorn oil, etc. and a wonderful olive oil cleanser which I get from a Japanese co. Anyway, we are very aware of the benefits of raw cacao but I, for whatever reason, never used the butter on my face.

You are right! It's fantastic. I have a dark complexion and am in my early 50's so I need to treat my skin with care. The second day I used it, the women I teach all commented on my face glowing! It is gentle, smells fabulous and my skin drinks it up but it doesn't stay oily at all. I just put a piece in my palms to warm it and then apply it to my face.

One of the women had a bad experience with a face product that burned her skin over the weekend which she was distressed about- rightly so. I happened to have the butter in my goodies bag and brought it out to her. She applied it and it began to calm down the burn.

Thank you Carlos! Love it! Lisa

EC: Hi Lisa, what's the name of the raw cocoa butter you bought? Did you find it at Whole Foods? Thanks!

Deirdre

Thanks for sharing your experience with cocoa butter. Can you tell us which kind of store did you get it from? Where can I find it in Girona or Barcelona?

Raw Cocoa Butter

Hi

PLEASE if you read this run and try to find 100% pure unrefined cocoa butter. IM writing from experience.I have tried many of the remedies and beauty advices in this website like ACV and hdrogen peroxide on my face.Ive tried most oils you can like jojoba, sesame olive oil.ive used aloe vera, soy milk,..Ive used snail cream and other chemical regular cheap and expensive brands that I cant list here.

The truth is I die for cosmetics specially natural and Im always in the look for the next new thing. While browsing I found out an article talking about recent studies stating cocoa had 5 times more antioxidant than green tea pomegranade etc. I remember cocoa had always been in my grandma bathroom as a body mostourizer, but it was the procesed product with everything on it alcohol fragance etc.

So I went to the afro store and bougt the most famous brand whose name starts with"P". It claims to have cocoa and E vitamin.I started to use it on my face,I saw improvement but I flt the chemicals on it althou I could feel cocoa was definately good.It was clearing my face and very mosturizing. So i went on looking for the pure 100% cocoa butter with absolutely nothing but cocoa butter.I found a store that sells just basic stuff no brand, you ask for the weight you want and they give you a white bottle with raw cocoa butter. It was solid and smell sostrong and sweet. More than any chocolate Ive ever had.

Well I washed my face with warm water. I did put a bit of it in th microwave and it became oil.I did put it in my face and.....o man.

Im 28,Im a man but I wore make up before cause I worked in modeling.I gotta tell you after few hours I looked just exactly as if I had make up on.REALLY

My skin tone is even and light,I can only see my eyebrows my eyes and my mouth. The rest of my face is even.Ive never felt this mostourized, and Ive tried every oil you can imagine. It absorbs quickly. I smile and watever and theres no tighness.Theres absolutely n problem with eye contact I did put it all over. Needless to say it also leaves your lips in perfect condition.

I gotta say Ive tried many mny things, lookig for ayounger teenage appreance, and I ahvent seen anything work this fast, this good.

Also dont worry if you are prone to acne, I just dont feel any bump or irritation. My skin is the most sensitive you can find that I dont use any alcohol based products. Its gentle, smells like heaven, and I think you wont need daily make up with this. Nive glow and shine. You can always wipe it a bit onceabsorbed if you dont like the shiny look.I do.I just cant imagine what this can do to your skin ona daily regimen. And the smell oh so good.
lease reply and lt me know how it works for you.

ATTENTION: Dont buy just any product stating cocoa butter. It will have other oils aditives aromas and alcohol that may irritate your skin or agravate acne. Find the raw cocoa butter,it will take you some time but its worth it. You dont need any extra oil vitamin added cocoa alone will rejuvenate your face trust me

I've been obsessed with skin care since I was around 16 (I'm 27 now). I think my obsession stemmed from the fact that my mother looks very old for her age due to years and years of smoking. So, I've used an eye cream day/night moisturizers for over 10 years now. I must say that my favorite moisturizer to use at night is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A very popular Japanese beauty/skin care company sells a tiny bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil for upwards of $40. I buy a large 17 ounce bottle of the same stuff at the grocery store for $6. It lasts forever. All I do is warm a dime sized amount in my hands and pat it on my face after cleansing before bed, concentrating on my forehead and around my eyes. I tend to get lots of compliments on my skin and although I drink tons of water and don't drink or smoke, I like to think that EVOO is really what's helping my skin.

Oil Cleansing Method

I came across the postings here regarding Oil Cleansing Method (OCM). I also browsed the internet regarding OCM. Although there were few negative feedbacks on this method, but the Positive feedbacks weighed much. So, yesterday I tried the OCM for the very first time. Today is my 2nd night of doing it, and really to my amazement, OCM really works! I have big, clogged pores and bad facial texture due to my acne problem when I was a teen-ager. I'm in my mid 40s and from time to time, still getting pimples/acne. For only 2 nights, my pores are cleaner - like more than 60% clean. Since yesterday, I could not stopped looking at the mirror because I could not believed the result of this simple, yet effective method. I always have the white/yellowish-thing that covers each pores. No matter how much I scrab and do facial cleansing, my pores were still clogged with dirt and hardened oil. Why did I not learn this in my younger years? For those people who didn't have good experience with OCM, be patient, probably, you were doing the wrong formula or amount of oil. Each person is different. I am glad OCM works for me. I finally found a natural way to clean and have good facial cleansing/treatment. Anyway, I thank the people who always contribute good information. Your postings are the catalysts for me to research and learn more about things that interest me and benefit my overall health. Thank you Earthclinic for a wonderful job!

Aloe Vera, Vitamin E

I had a question to Rob or anyone else who may know. At home I mixed the aloe vera and vitamin e and put it in a glass jar. Then i read the aloe jar, and it said to refrigerate after opening, so i put my mixture in the refrigerator as well. Is this okay? sometimes when i put the mixture on my face (after washing), my face turns bright red and stings. It's not unbearable and i do already notice a good change in my skin. Just wanted to know if maybe i should keep them separate until i apply, or can i store it at room temp after mixing for future use. or is the refrigerator fine? thanks anyone!

To Kavi from Trinidad - Tumeric for beautiful skin - I wanted to try this as her explanation of beautiful skin made me want the same. I had used tumeric for a boil and it worked so well! I had also read of coffee grounds for exfoliating. So I get a small cup and add coffee grounds, tumeric and a pinch of salt. I get into the shower and start rubbing this on my face. I look down at my hands and see how yellow they are!! OMG! It is not coming off, then I remember I had applied this to my face! As a very fair skinned hispanic women I remember that Kavi had stated she was Indian, which meant her skin was darker than mine! I was laughing so hard thinking that I was going to spend the next few days with yellow skin! And explaining that I read this great remedy on-line!! I continued my shower rinsing my face very well and then washing with store bought face cleaner. Much to my surprise my skin was not yellow! My hands were still slightly yellow but my face was not. I got a good laugh and my face felt very smooth and looked great!

Thanks for the great website it has helped my family and I with numerous home remedies!
