Snoring Natural Remedies

Snoring is usually considered an irritant to roommates or housemates, yet snoring may be caused by a health issue. Snoring may also be a precursor to poor sleep, which can cause medical problems. Reducing or eliminating snoring can improve sleep for a whole household. Natural remedies for snoring include apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, and eucalyptus essential oil.

Causes of Snoring

  • Deviated Septum
  • Inflammation
  • Congestion
  • Excess weight
  • Alcohol Consumption
  • Sleep Position
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Effective Natural Remedies for Snoring

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is used to provide the body with nutrients and help balance pH. Additionally it is used to reduce inflammation and allergies, making is useful for many who snore. While apple cider vinegar is often taken in the morning, those who snore may do well to use it near bedtime. 1-3 teaspoons is added to a glass of water and consumed between dinner and bed time.

For those who cannot tolerate apple cider vinegar in water, apple cider vinegar pills often work quite well. Taking two with dinner or before bed would be an alternative to the tonic.

2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps the body fight infection. Vitamin C supports the immune system. If snoring is caused by inflammation, chronic infection or enlarged tonsils and adenoids, vitamin C may be helpful.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a natural anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anti-fungal and antibiotic. Adding coconut oil to the diet is one way to make use of coconut oil benefits. Be sure to use coconut oil that smells like coconuts, not refined coconut oil.

Alternately, applying a pea sized amount of coconut oil to the base of the nose and into the nostrils at bedtime may reduce snoring.

4. Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus essential oil helps to clear nasal passages. The oil can be added to a room diffuser. Or it can be applied to the neck or chest, diluted. Add 5 drops of eucalyptus essential oil to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Massage some of this mixture to the neck and throat at bedtime.

5. Sleep Position Modifications

Those who share a bed with a snorer know to give him a nudge to encourage him to roll over. This often suspends snoring for a while, until the snorer finds his way back onto his back.

Inclined bed therapy is helpful to some who snore. The two legs of the head of the bed are elevated 4-6 inches. Inclined bed therapy has helped many with snoring and many other health problems as well.

6. Dietary Changes

Eliminating dairy, at least in the evenings may reduce snoring for some.

A diet that includes mostly whole foods and few processed foods can reduce allergies and promote weight loss, both of which can help eliminate snoring.

Increasing water consumption may reduce snoring. Dehydration can cause all sorts of health problems, including snoring.

Golden milk is a great way to get the anti-inflammatory, turmeric, into the system. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory herb. Be sure to use a non-dairy milk to make the golden milk if snoring is a problem.

Reducing alcohol consumption can reduce snoring.

Snoring in Children

Some children do snore and may be heard all over the house. While in some cases, a modest amount of snoring may be within the accepted range of normal, snoring can be an indicator of a more serious health problem. For this reason, a child with chronic snoring should be evaluated by a medical professional. Children with significant snoring or sleep apnea are often not getting enough rest, which can cause behavior problems, academic delays, and even poor appetite. Snoring with sleep apnea can be caused by enlarged adenoids. Snoring may also be a sign of allergies in children.

I can't believe it. I read that drinking 1 Tbl of ACV stops snoring. My husband is slightly overweight and snores LOUD! I figured it was a weight issue. I would elbow him or make him sleep on his side but that didn't really help. So as an experiment, I gave him 1Tbl of ACV with juice before bed time. Silence!!

I literally had a hard time sleeping all night the first night because I kept waking up in awe that he WASN'T snoring! He even wakes up more energized because of better quality sleep.

We're on day 3 and same! This is my first post because I had to evangelize!!

After hitting menopause, I began snoring, which is something the doctors seem to expect. I had a turbinate reduction a few years ago, after trying several different medications. That helped for a while. Then, it started again. I was tested for allergies, but there was nothing significant. I covered my mattress and pillows with high-end protectors in case it was dust mites I was inhaling. I was still snoring. I researched several different ways to drink ACV, which stopped my snoring, but I really didn't like the strong flavor. In fact, I eventually stopped drinking ACV altogether. As a result, I have been snoring for the past few weeks (again! ) so when a co-worker went on and on about how great Switchel tasted, I decided to make some and, lo and behold, it DOES taste wonderful! I drank some yesterday morning and last night and...voila! No snoring last night, much to my husband's joy! I love this stuff so much, I'll be drinking it morning and night!

The recipe calls for 1/3 cup of ACV (always with the mother), 1/2 fresh lemon, 4 TB of honey or Agave (I used stevia), 2 TB finely grated fresh ginger, 1 cup of spring water and 1 cup of lemon-flavored seltzer water.

Put it in a lidded quart jar and leave it overnight. To drink, just pour 1/3-1/2 cup of mixture in a 10-oz glass and add enough lemon-flavored seltzer water to top off the glass. It is absolutely awesome! I have been substituting flavored seltzer water for soft drinks for a while now and I'll be trying other flavors than lemon in my Switchel.

Just make sure the seltzer water is carbonated spring water with natural flavors, nothing artificial added. Bon appetite and bon voyage to snoring!

My husband has a legendary reputation for his snoring. We have been taking a daily dose of ACV for a few months now. His snores have been reduced to quiet breathing from the Earth-shattering events that used to drive me to the couch. Yeah! for ACV.

Hi, could you please share the quantity of ACV your husband takes every night. Does he take it at night before going to bed? Thanking you in advance for your answer. Evgeniya

Hello, after suffering the last few months with constant congestion both in my sinus's and my upper chest I checked myself into a hospital. After being poked and monitored for 3 days they discharged me after filling me with the same off the shelf Mucinex you can buy yourself. Of course after a day I started feeling bad again as the drug wore off. Out of desperation I turned to the Internet as I felt I was suffocating from the congestion. I found this website with all the testimonials on the wonders of using ACV. I went to the local market during lunch and bought a bottle of Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar...for $3 I'd take a chance...why not? That evening (four days ago) I started taking a tablespoon of ACV in a coffee mug I filled with water. In an hour my sinus's started feeling clearer. I had forgotten I could breath through my left nostril. I started drinking my "tea" in the morning and evening. Well, now its been 4 days and my chest is starting to clear also. Just yesterday I was still having the chest constrictions but today I feel great. I'm anxious to try the natural unfiltered ACV when and where I can find it. Also interested in adding local hometown honey if I can find it as I have read about the benefits here also. Now, I need to say that I'm an old crouch, 57 years old, and set in my ways. But I have to admit to you all that this has helped me. No voodoo magic stuff for me. Try it. I did and I'm happy. And the wife is happy too! She says I haven't snored in the three nights I've tried this. Of course I didn't think I ever snored!!

Switch to organic raw unfiltered ACV with the Mother and it will do so much more for your health than just snoring. It will help with allergies, your body's detoxification processes, digestive and immune system just to name a few.

I am amazed to see the fast active ACV and its health benefits. I have been using ACV for the last 3 weeks. I have lost around 8 pounds till today, my BP is getting well controlled around 110/70 and oily skin is natural looking w/o any skin eruptions, etc. Overall I feel young and mentally sharp at the age of 55. I also found something astonishing and require verification from others. I found and, as reported by my family, my Snoring is missing now a days!! Really ACV is an Amazing Drink. Thanks

When I found this website I was suffering from acid reflux and GERD so bad that every night's sleep was being interrupted. I even stopped eating dinner for about 2 weeks hoping to offset an attack. I was already on medication for high blood pressure and was refusing to take the purple pill for the reflux. I found this site and immediately thought about Dr. Atkins little refered to book on methods of weight loss and gastrointenstinal health that he put out long before the Atkins diet. It was a regime of vinegar and olive oil (tablespoon of each) before or after each meal. This could not have been a coincidence. So I got some ACV and proceeded to drink 1/4 cup acv in 8 ounces of water either right after my evening meal, or just before brushing my teeth for bed. I have slept like a queen for 2 weeks. My snoring is normal instead of ground shaking. It is so nice not to toss and turn all through the night. I am going to up my regime to use it for high blood pressure next. Wish me luck!

Seven days ago I was ready to put a gun to my head. I was continuously waking up, had difficulty breathing and swallowing. My self diagnosis search led me to this web site. I started taking two tablespoons of ACV and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda in about 4 ounces of apple juice. It actually tasted pretty good. Some relief was almost immediate, but one week later I am thrilled to report 2 consecutive good nights sleeps of about 7 hours. This is the best I have slept in two months as the throat problems caused me to snore badly when I could get to sleep. My wife has welcomed me back from the guest room, which I am also thrilled about. I have osteoarthritis which I WAS using a combination of CELEBREX (4 OR SO A MONTH) and IBUPROPHEN(whenever I wanted)I would get up in the morning and enjoy 6 or 7 cups of coffee on an empty stomach, then eat and have 3 or 4 diet sodas during the rest of the day. BAD BAD BAD. So I stopped the coffee and sodas, started taking B complex, large doses of Vitamin c, L Glutamine and traded the coffee for herbal teas, and the sodas for juice. NO MORE IBUPROFEN Tylenol only if I need it. Bottom line: In a week I feel totally different, much much better actually. THANK GOD for this web site. I wish you luck if you have a similar situation to mine.

It has been two months since I started trying the apple cider vinegar for my sinuses and I cannot deny any longer the positive effects. I didn't see much of anything for the first week and a half or so, but then I could feel the pressure start to ease slightly. By a month in, I could sleep on my back for the first time in years (I've had to sleep on my side to avoid sinus headaches in the morning). My wife, who made fun of me at first for trying this now freely admits to me and to our friends that I don't snore as much anymore. We are both pretty surprised. I just take two spoonfuls in my bottled water each morning and one spoon in my herb tea. Many thanks - I am so glad I happened to google your site up!

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I've found this great website when searching for ways to removed moles from my face naturally and stumbled on the benefits of ACV, so I've been taking 2 table spoon in 8oz of water twice a day. I can't belive the immidiate impact ACV has on me. After taking the first cup I feel much more energetic, and after a week the skins on my face begin to clear-up. I've also found on here that ACV will also cure snoring so, after one week of taking ACV, I've asked my wife check to see if my snoring has improve. Not to my surprise, she said that my snoring has reduced dramatically. Well, now 4 weeks later my snoring has came back. What is wrong? Should I increase my dosage and frequency to 3 table spoon in 8oz of water and 3 times a day?

Thank you Earth Clinic

Snoring Remedy - Avoid Sugar My husband has snored for years. A few months ago he decided to cut way back on sugar. After a while I realized he wasn't snoring anymore! Occasionally I realize that he is snoring and can always trace it back to sugar. ~Mama to Many~

Every night before bed, my husband and I put a little coconut oil up in our nostrils/nose. Ever since we started doing thtis, he has a lot less trouble with allergies, and he says that I no longer snore! Not that I ever was a real loud snorer, but whatever heavy breathing that blockage or congestion was causing, it is now gone! It only takes about 1/4 tsp. - just a tiny bit on your fingertip for each nostril.

To relieve snoring - Try not to have dairy before bed (about 5 hours or so) Dairy makes mucus and mucus can cause snoring.

I always find it interesting how everyone is always trying to treat the symptoms of what is causing snoring instead of what is causing it. I firmly believe that if a person's body is not getting enough or absorbing enough oxygen (oxygen deficient)when they are awake (due to their lifestyle/diet), they will snore. Their bodies become oxygen deficient due to a variety of reasons. When we sleep, our body is doing all kinds of stuff to try to get us balanced again. If you are oxygen deficient, your body is working very hard to get in all the oxygen it can the only way it can while you are asleep... Through breathing. So your brain is sending a message for you (while you are asleep) to breath in really hard to take in as much air as possible. Keep in mind all of your muscles are in the relaxed state, including those in your throat. When you are awake you can take in deep deep breathes without snoring. You can't do this while you are asleep and not snore! Try this exercise... Relax all the muscles in your throat (like how they are when you are asleep)and breath in really hard (nose or mouth). You made a snoring sound right? See what I am saying now?

If you are snoring, one of the main reasons (aside from any physical defects in your throat/nasal), I believe it may be because you are oxygen deficient probably due to number of reasons. These reasons especially include diet. A lot of foods (like those containing a lot of processed flour, sugar, etc... ) deplete the body's oxygen stores as the body is required to use more oxygen dealing with those types of foods than what they bring in. A diet that is high in oxygen rich foods will help significantly to reduce snoring. Another factor we become oxygen deficient is not taking in enough oxygen due to shallow breathing. Our breathing needs to be deeper throughout the day so we are taking in more oxygen. For whatever reason, stress also seems to contribute to making our bodies oxygen deficient. Physical activity is a must not only as a stress reducer, but for other obvious health reasons. In addition to the aforementioned, doing the H2O2 therapy (many examples here on EC), may also help your bodies become more rich in oxygen and in turn reduce or cure your snoring. Try these ideas out.... I don't snore anymore and my wife no longer pushes me while I'm asleep!!!!

It apparently works for some but not here. I have tried it for 2 years now and after putting the bed back on level it seemed like it was still raised 6". We have not noticed any difference in the way we sleep or feel after trying it, so I would have to give it a nay.
