Kefir for Type II Diabetes

| Modified: Aug 03, 2018
Milk kefir is an effective home remedy for type II diabetes. Milk kefir can be bought in health food stores, larger grocery stores, or it can be made without too much trouble at home.

A connection has been made between the bacteria staphylococcus aureus and type II diabetes. If a person has diabetes because his body has too much of the bacteria staphylococcus aureus, or the toxins that result from it, then treating the staphylococcus aureus may solve the diabetes problem.

The "good bacteria," Lactobacillus Casei, is one that fights the "bad bacteria" staphylococcus aureus. A good way to get this good bacteria is through milk kefir.

How Do I Use Milk Kefir for Diabetes Type II?

One cup of milk kefir should be consumed on an empty stomach daily for two months. If you are using store-bought milk kefir, you should make sure it contains, L. Casei. This bacteria is also found in some supplements and in some yogurts.

Earth Clinic is grateful to P. Raghavan from India for bringing this remedy for type II diabetes to our attention.

Have you tried milk kefir for type II diabetes? Please share your story with us!

I have been drinking kefir for about 3 months now and still taking my insulin but have cut back about 4 units. I think it is still working so I will continue drinking it. Has anyone else found this in to be a factor in their regime?

Hi Harvey,

I tried the milk kefir to see if it would help my sister who is pre-diabetic. My glucose usually had been running at 99. I took the kefir every day for two months, as suggested by Raghavan, and my glucose dropped to 82. I now take it a couple of times a week, and my latest blood test this week shows a glucose level of 85. I use whole, organic grass fed milk and in 24 hours, it usually turns into a thick yogurt. I strain it and add fruit, sometimes a little honey, too. I keep it on my kitchen counter for 24 hours or so, but it keeps quite a while in the refrigerator if I don't use it in a week. I have shared the grains with many people, and most seem to like it very much, if only for the beneficial bacteria it contains. Thank you, Raghavan, for posting this!

Henry,

Check your blood sugar levels in the morning on empty stomach and also two hours after eating. If the fasting blood sugar level is less than 100, S. Aureus infection is cleared. So, there is no need to take anymore probiotic kefir. It is optional. If the fasting blood sugar is less than 100 and your blood sugar level two hours after eating is more than 140, it indicates a considerable number of damaged cells in your body due to high blood sugar levels. Since damaged cells will not use insulin efficiently and they cause insulin resistance. That is why you have to take extra insulin. To correct this problem, damaged cells in your body will have to be converted into normal cells.

For this, take one cup of chlorophyll rich foods like cilantro, parsley, spinach, wheatgrass, etc. and mix it with one cup of drinking water. Extract green juice using a blender. Then add lemon juice from one lemon and pinch of sea salt. Drink this once or twice a day. Also, take a 500 mg vitamin C tablet twice a day.

Best wishes,

P. Raghavan.

Harvey,

I want to give a unified protocol to treat Diabetes Type II. People with Diabetes Type II have the following two problems:

1) S. Aureus infection.

2) Damaged cells in the body due to high blood sugar.

The protocol consists of two parts and is as follows:

1) Probiotics containing L. Casei and L. Achidophilus will eliminate S. Aureus infection. For this, one has to take probiotic food ( e.g., Kefir, Mung bean soaked fermented water ) or probiotic capsules containing L. Casei and L. Achidophilus in the morning for 8 weeks on empty stomach.

2) To solve damaged cell problem, one has to do the following:

a) Take a cup of chlorophyll-rich food like cilantro, parsley, spinach, wheatgrass, etc. and add one cup of drinking water. Extract green juice using a blender. Then add lemon juice from one lemon and a pinch of sea salt. Drink this twice a day. If you can not take lemon juice, you can substitute with one fourth teaspoon of baking soda.

b) Take 500 mg vitamin c tablets thrice a day.

It is advisable to follow the above two step protocol to treat people with any type of Diabetes Type II problem.

Best wishes.

Hello P. Raghavan,

I wanted to give an update on my experience with the probiotic capsules that you are recommending. I have been taking them (as you directed) for over 31/2 months and am still experiencing high morning readings. When I woke up this morning my reading was 221. That seems to be my average. Just to experiment the last month or so I have taken two capsules in the morning instead of one and am still not experiencing any change. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you!

In reply to Amy (United States),

A few possibilities for the poor performance of probiotics in general are 1) a lack of a prebiotic in the capsule to help feed the probiotics such as FOS,

2) a capsule that is not designed to be resistant to stomach acid and breaks down prematurely allowing the contents to be destroyed by hydrochloric acid before it can get to the lower GI tract,

3) an initial CFU count that is too low to be effective,

4) probiotics that have been exposed to high temperatures either at your home or during shipping rendering them useless and

5) probiotics that are too old and past or too close to their expiration date too have an effective CFU count. These are live bacteria, but are dying as the capsule ages just sitting on the shelf. Some manufacturers recommend refrigerating their product to help insure that there are enough CFU's in their capsules in their product by the time you take them.

Based on the method that P. Raghavan recommends of taking the capsule before breakfast on an empty stomach, item number 2 above would be a definite problem. If the CFU count is not well into the billions, the probiotics may be too minimal to be effective. In a quick check of one online probiotic supplier, the CFU range of their probiotics were a low of 1 billion and a high of 66 billion per capsule.

As you can see there are some variables to consider when it comes to probiotics and not all probiotics are created equal. Having the right bacterial strains is important, but there is more to consider than just that.

I agree with the need for prebiotics.

Once I started taken Inulin (3 to 6 grams per day with meals) which is a Chicory root extract soluble fiber prebiotic. I found that my morning glucose levels decreased. Before I started ingesting the Chicory root extract I could drink a quart of Kefir Milk a day and see no decrease in my morning glucose levels. I now drink about 5 oz of Kefir per day. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) is another form of a soluble fiber prebiotic which can be derived from Chicory root but has a shorter polymer length. Both types serve as a substrate for microflora in the large intestine, increasing the overall gastrointestinal tract health.

Amy,

High morning blood sugar level is mostly due to toxins released by the bad bacteria in the digestive system. It will be a good idea if you can test your stool to find out the bad bacteria in the digestive system. If the bad bacteria is A. Aureus or MRSA, then there is some procedural problem in the protocol. But the bad bacteria is different from S. Aureus, it implies the probiotics you took can not clear the infection. Then you have consult some specialist to find out proper medicine to clear the infection. After clearing the infection, you may follow the protocol.

I hope this information will be useful.

Best wishes.

Hello P. Raghaven,

I wanted to let you know that since I last posted I started getting some random whiteheads/pimples on my body in odd locations. When I started investigating what they might be, it seems that they probably are from a staph infection. Could this be related to the bacteria from MRSA? Are the whiteheads/pimples my body's way of trying to rid itself of the bacteria? I will try to get in to get my stool tested, but just wanted to ask about your thoughts on any relation between a staph infection and MRSA. Also, do you also agree with adding a prebiotic to the probiotic in the morning? Thank you!

Amy,

Staph infection is mostly due to S. Aureus. MRSA is a strain of S. Aureus. Prebiotics will help in the multiplication of probiotic bacteria. You can try different brands of multi-strain probiotics with prebiotic FOS. You may also try prebiotic inulin. I want to mention that cinnamon is also a prebiotic since it contains 53% fiber. I believe stool test is necessary to identify the bad bacteria in your digestive system.

Ted from Bangkok has identified many reasons or causes for diabetes 2.

The first cause is calcification of the beta cells in the pancreas due to excess calcium and acidification in the blood. The beta cells are what produce the insulin - so insulin production therefore becomes restricted and reduced.

The second cause is invasion of the pancreatic cells by a pathogen such staph aureus or a spirochete.

The third cause is lack of iodine in the diet which causes lack of sensitivity of all insulin receptors in your body cells. But lugol's iodine will also cure certain types of diabetes -- see the research by Dr Flechas et al.

Another important cause of diabetes is lack of the trace mineral chromium in your diet. In 1956 they confirmed in human trials that taking sufficient amounts of chromium and vanadium in the diet actually was able to cure people of diabetes. There was no follow up research on this and it was more or less suppressed which is why people are taking diabetes drugs now which really don't do much to help cure the diabetic condition.

So if you want to cure or at least improve your diabetes condition it would probably benefit you to take the following nutraceuticals:

* Magnesium Chloride -- 300 mgs twice a day with meals. Removes and properly balances excess calcium in the blood. Magnesium Chloride and Diabetes.

* Lugol's iodine(6 drops a day in a glass of water - start with lower dose) or potassium iodide(120mgs per day) to improve the thyroid and pancreas. Also kills a wide range of pathogens and spurs the immune system into healthier operation.

* Chromium picolinate -- You can safely take 600-1000mcgs of chromium picolinate per day for diabetes. See the research here.

* Virgin Coconut Oil -- two tablespoons a day with meals. This will provide energy for your cells that does not depend on insulin/glucose transport. It also kills a wide range of pathogens. VCO can also cure Alzheimers (diabetes of the brain?).

* Alkalize the body using Ted's Alkalizing remedies.

Omer Farooq,

One of my relatives was Diabetes Type 2. I gave him a good kefir starter. But kefir did not work for him. Apparently, he put kefir start in one cup of warm milk. Warm milk eliminated some probiotic strains.

Finally, he ordered multi-strain probiotic tablets containing L. Casei and L. Acidophillus.

He took one probiotic tablet 30 minutes before breakfast for 60 days. He is now cured and he is very happy. You may also do similar think.

Hi Raghavan,

Here is my report on the kefir. I don't have diabetes but it runs in my family, so I bought the Mr.& Mrs. Kefir grains and have been drinking about a cup every day for a month. My glucose is usually 99, although with probiotic supplements it was 89 six months ago. After the milk kefir, it is now 82! I have been able to share the extra grains with about ten other friends so far, who want it just for the probiotics. I have gotten used to the taste, but usually add fruit and/or raw honey to the kefir. It has had no adverse effects on my body, and has lowered my glucose. Thank you!

Regarding adding fruit, I have difficulty with the flavor as most of the time my kefir gets past the carbonated milk point to thick and clumpy. Although it is not rancid like it would be if the milk went bad.

However by blending it with frozen fruit (blueberries, mango, cherry etc.) it becomes truly delicious. I am wondering if blending it with frozen fruit would kill it? I do drink it immediately. Boy, I sure hope not as it is a treat first thing in the morning.

Thank you for this thread.

Step-by-step Procedures To Cure Diabetes Type II

The bad bacteria responsible for Diabetes Type II is : Staphylococcus Aureus (S. Aureus). The probiotic bacteria ( also called Friendly Bacteria) "L. Casei" can eliminate this bad bacteria. One will become Diabetes Type II if there is no sufficient quantity of L. Casei in ones digestive system to kill this bad bacteria. Only way to cure Diabetes Type II is to increase the count of L. Casei in the digestive system.

We bought milk kefir starter (Brand - Mr and Mrs Kefir) from Amazon.com. Milk Kefir is a Fermented Probiotic Food and it contains L. Casei. One can use any other starter as long as it contains L.Casei. We used 12-hour fermented fresh kefir for this cure. We used ordinary cow milk at room temperature for fermentation. The 12-hour fermented Kefir looks similar to yogurt and there is no need to do liquid-solid separation. It is advisable to do the following procedures under the supervision of a doctor :

1) Take one cup (100 cc) of ordinary cow milk at room temperature and add one teaspoon of Kefir to start the fermentation at night.

2) Next day morning, one cup of 12-hour fermented Kefir is available. Save about one teaspoon of Kefir for next fermentation and save it in the middle section of refrigerator. Take the remaining one cup of Kefir in the morning on empty stomach.

3) Follow Step 1 And Step 2 for about 8 weeks.

4) Then check for the bad bacteria S. Aureus in the stool as well as in the blood in a Lab. If there is no S. Aureus in both, the person is cured. If there is some S. Aureus either in the stool or in the blood, then follow steps 1 and 2 for another 4 weeks. Then go to the beginning of this step 4.

If a milk kefir starter is not available in your area but Mung Bean is available, one can use Mung Bean soaked fermented water to cure Diabetes Type II. Mung Bean soaked fermented water also contains L. Casei. One can follow instructions under the tittle " Mung Bean soaked Fermented water for Diabetes Type II" .

Best Wishes P. Raghavan.

You may contact milk kefir starter manufacturers to find approximate quantity of L. Casei we can expect in one cup of kefir. I looked at probiotic capsules containing L. Casei in the net. They are mentioning the following values per capsules:

By weight, 75 mg to 150 mg per capsule.

By CFU (colony forming unit) 300 to 680 million L. Casei per capsule.

I hope this information will be helpful. For best results, take it as one shot in the morning on empty stomach.

I have been following this thread with interest. I have made and used kefir and have seen it do amazing things, but I am learning a lot via this discussion and find it fascinating. Thanks to all who are sharing in it!

My son had a staph infection on his leg that we could not completely get rid of even with turmeric, which generally works very well for staph. When we added kefir to his treatment plan, he quickly healed in a matter of days.

So, now I see that a certain strain of bacteria is likely in the kefir we used (L. Casei).

I was in a Costco this week and saw a plain yogurt and checked it out - "Fage" Greek Yogurt. It has L. Casei and L. Acidophilus in it. It also does not contain the additives and preservatives that many yogurts have. I bought some and it is delicious, by the way. I thought I would pass this along for those looking for a product that contains these important bacteria.

Mary,

Kefir contains usually about 30 probiotic strains whereas ordinary yogurt contains only 2 probiotic strains. You have to find a milk kefir starter that contains L. Casei strain out of about 30 probiotic strains.

When four people in my town initially took one fourth cup of Kefir in the morning, there was no improvement in Fasting blood sugar level. Then they took one half cup of Kefir in the morning. There was a slight improvement in fasting blood sugar level. But when they started taking one cup of Kefir in the morning, there was a good improvement. You can also do some trials to find the good dosage. It is better to monitor Fasting blood sugar level every 5 days.

Cindy,

Diabetes Type II is caused by the probiotic deficiency of L. Casei in the digestive system. It can be cured by Kefir, Probiotic Yogurt containing L.Casei, Mung Bean soaked fermented water, etc. If one became Diabetes II because of an antibiotic treatment, it is possible that the antibiotic treatment might have eliminated not only L. Casei but also some other probiotic strains. There are a number of diseases associated with probiotic deficiencies. Probiotic deficiencies can be identified by counting the number of each probiotic strain per unit volume of stool and comparing them with those of healthy adults. There is an advantage to treat Diabetes II with Kefir over other methods.

If one goes through available research papers on probiotics in the net, some of the diseases associated with probiotic deficiencies are as follows:

1) High Blood Pressure - There are some types of probiotic bacteria that can generate nitric oxide from the foods we eat. These nitric oxide generating bacteria can be classified as follows:

Tier I (Critical) = L. Plantarum.

Tier II (Useful) = L. Rhamnosus and

L. Fermentum.

Nitric oxide generated by these bacteria will join blood stream and will dilate all stiff blood vessels. If one is deficient of these bacteria, high blood pressure problem may develope. Kefir contains all these bacteria to cure high blood pressure. I knew two people who were Diabetes II with high blood pressure problem took kefir routine. They are not diabetes anymore and their blood pressures are normal.

2) Vitamin D3 and B12 Deficiencies - The probiotic strain called ' L. Reuteri ' assist in the conversion of Vitamin D to Vitamin D3 and also helps in the synthesis of Vitamin B12. If a person has probiotic deficiency of L. Reuteri, the person may get Vitamin D3 and B12 deficiencies. These deficiencies may create many health problems like Asthma, Wheezing, Allergy, Muscle pain, Vitiligo, etc. Kefir contains L. Reuteri. Four in my took blood tests about a year ago. Blood tests indicate three out of four in my family(75 %) had Vitamin D3 and B12 deficiencies. One person who escaped from Vitamin D3 and B12 deficiencies never took any antibiotics. I took Kefir to correct this problem and my recent blood tests indicate that I am not Vitamin D3 and B12 deficient. It appears that many popular antibiotics eliminate L. Reuteri in the digestive system causing Vitamin D3 and B12 deficiencies.

3) Heart Disease - The levels of bad cholesterol (LDL), good cholesterol (HDL) and Triglycerides (TG) in our blood are mostly determined by the probiotics and enzymes in our digestive systems. The probiotic strain associated with heart disease are:

Tier I (Critical) = B. Longum

Tier II (Useful) = L. Plantarum, L. casei

and L. Fermentum.

Tier III (Good)

= L. Reuteri and L. Achidophilus.

If these probiotics are deficient, one may get heart disease. These probiotics are in Kefir. These probiotics will try to bring the LDl, HDL and TG to the normal level.

Best Wishes. P. Raghavan.

Amy,

You can double the quantity of Kefir starter to 2 teaspoon and wait for 24- hour to see whether Kefir looks like yogurt. If it is not, there is something wrong with the Kefir starter.

The probiotics in kefir will not survive in high temperatures and also in very low temperatures. The entire fermentation process should be at room temperature.

Also, you should not add kefir starter when the milk is hot. You can consult the supplier of kefir starter to resolve this problem.

Kefir will ferment more slowly when it is cool and faster when it is warm. At 80 farenheit, mine will be ready in about 8 hours (starting with cold milk). I can start it before leaving for work and it's ready to strain when I get home. It also depends on the amount of milk--I use a pint mason jar. A quart jar takes longer under the same conditions. I usually stir or shake it if I walk by during the day. You want to look for small areas of 'separation', where you get a small pocket of whey. The 'wake-up' usually takes a few days. Keep trying, it will come around.

After my fasting glucose went down from 99 to the low 80's using the kefir milk, I suggested it to a friend who is prediabetic. Her fasting glucose also declined twelve points! She said, however, her A1C went up. Is this from consuming too many carbs?

The kefir grains suggested (Mr.&Mrs) tells us to use whole milk that is not ultra-pasteurized for best results, and I found this to be true, as did my yoga teacher. I am trying whole grass fed milk currently, and it isn't as thick as the suggested milk, but is still OK for me. I keep mine on the counter for about a day, then refrigerate if I don't use it. Not sure if the bacteria in whole not ultra pasteurized milk that Ben mentions is killed by the culture process or not, but it definitely seems to lower fasting blood glucose. Thank you!

If I want thicker kefir (when I want to use it like sour cream or even cream cheese) I usually line a strainer with a coffee filter or cheesecloth and let it drip until it's the consistency that I want. Remember that adding things to flavor it will thin it--a spoon of honey can thin it a good bit (make it thicker than yogurt, then add your honey or fruit and it should thin enough to be spoonable). I make a spread with thick kefir, chopped nuts and herbs to spread on toast or crackers. delish. I use the thicker kefir like sour cream in curries, yum. I stir it in as the curry cools so as not to kill the good bacteria.

Is the blood sugar level taken two hours after eating is O.K. for your friend? If it is not O.K. even after consumption of Kefir for 8 weeks in the morning, it may be due to many reasons. Hi Raghavan,

Thank you for the reply.

I was diagnosed as type II diabetic about almost two weeks ago. My bsl was 26.9mmol (UK standards/units). I had exericsed and eaten less than hour before my blood was taken. This might have been the cause for the high reading.

About six days later I provided a fasting blood sample (I didn't consume anything for about 14 hours prior). The bsl came back over 14mmol. And the longer term reading was in the 130s or 140s (I am not sure what - I haven't been back to discuss this result yet).

I started the Kefir about 8 days ago (Saturday), and have been consuming approx. 250ml (250cc) daily, in the mornings on an empty stomach. I plan to continue this for two months, or until my next blood test. I am keeping a diary with this information.

Is there anyway I can test the blood myself - perhaps purchase something from amazon (if not too expensive) that will give reliable results. This way I can monitor if the kefir is working for me.

What led the four people to take the the kefir for 8 weeks? Did they think it could cure them of diabetes 2 or were they taking the kefir for another reason and by chance came across this diabetes 2 curative result? Thanks. Larry/Fairfax, VA, USA.

The bad bacteria responsible for diabetes is STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS.

There is a research paper of microbiological research by Barbara Karska-Wysock stating that l. casei and l. acidophilus can kill 99% of this bad bacteria after 24 hours at 37 C in test tube.

The milk kefir used mr and mrs kefir starter contains l. casei and l. acidophilus.

This is to be taken on empty stomach because l. casie may not survive in stomach acid. you may try any probiotic capsules containing l. casei and l. achidophilus in sufficient numbers.

I read many research papers on Diabetes Type II and come up with this report on possible causes and cures for Diabetes II.

The bad bacteria responsible for Diabetes II is : Staphylococcus Aureus (SA). This bad bacteria SA is found in the nose and on the skin. Everybody is exposed this bad bacteria. There is a microbiological research paper titled " Antibacterial activity of L. achidophilus and L. casei against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus" by Barbara Karska-Wysocki. This states that L. casei and L. Achidophilus can eliminate 99% of this bad bacteria SA after 24 hours of their incubation at 37 C in a test tube. Some reports say that L.casei play a major role in this action.

The bad bacteria SA can enter our digestive system through our mouth. But if we have enough L. casei and L. achidophilus in our digestive system, the bad bacteria SA will be eliminated. But if we have very low level of L.casei and L. achidophilus in our digestive syastem, the bad bacteria SA will not be eliminated and we will soon become diabetes II. The bad bacteria SA will establish colonies in the digestive system and screw up the digestion.

Some possible reasons for very low level of L. casei and L. achidophilus in the digestive system are as follows: 1) Antibiotic treatment - Antibiotics will kill both bad and good bacterias.

2) Stressful conditions - This condition will generate large quantity of stomach acids that will kill good bacterias also.

3) Prolonged period of idle times - good bacterias will not multiply if one is idle.

4) Smoking

5) Strong medicines or herbal treatment.

Some possible cures are as follows: Take L. casei and L. achidophilus in sufficient quantities. They will first eliminate the bad bacteria SA and then increase their counts in the digestive system so that future invasion of the bad bacteria SA will be countered. It can be implemented as one of the following ways:

1) Take one cup of homemade milk Kefir in the morning on empty stomach for 8 weeks. Kefir contains L. casei and L. achidiphilus.

2) or Take probiotic capsules containing L. casei and L. achidophilus in sufficient quantities in the morning half an hour before breakfast for 8 weeks.

I will appreciate any corrections or additions to my report.

Best wishes. P. Raghavan.

I concur with the recommendation to first use natural antibiotics like Neem, Garlic, Oregano, Oregon Grape, Olive Leaf, Grapefruitseed, etc. as these directly kill pathogens giving the healthy or probiotics a much cleaner terrain or environment to populate and remain.

Another six people who were Diabetes Type II took one cup of home made kefir in the morning on empty stomach for 8 weeks. They are cured and they are not diabetes anymore.

It appears that Milk Kefir Routine is a simple and effective cure for Diabetes Type II. If anyone tries this routine, kindly report the result.

Note: Milk kefir should not be stored in the freezer section of the refrigerator since some probiotics in kefir may not survive in very low temperature.

Dear Marvi,

During the first 3 to 4 weeks of Kefir treatment, the sugar level will come down from high level to about 140 and will stay there. This indicates that the bad bacteria S. Aureus is completely eliminated from your digesting system. My friend who was Diabetes 2 consulted his doctor at the end of 4 th week. His doctor advised him to discontinue all diabetic medications. You can also consult your doctor at the end of 4 th week and act accordingly. If you take both kefir and diabetic medications after 4 th week, your sugar level may go to very low level and you may get giddiness. You have to take care of this situation by keeping small amount glucose powder in your pocket for giddiness treatment. After 8 th week, you will be cured and report the good news here.

P.Raghavan,

Thank you for posting this great and very useful information! I'm sure this will help many people as diabetes is such a common disease these days.

I also want to thank you for following up on the people that are trying the kefir. So many people say they will follow up and never do.

I can only imagine how great it would feel for people who have to inject insulin every day of their life and now have hope for the possiblity of being able to never have to do that again and the treatment is so relatively fast and non-invasive!

I don't see that your thread got one of the, "editor's choice awards", but it certainly deserves that and more!

P. Raghavan,

I was reading an abstract which was looking at the rate of staphylococus aureus in diabetic patients and it showed a rate of approximately 40% of patients. Based on that, it would appear that kefir is doing more than just killing staph in order to improve the status of diabetic patients. If it was just the kefir killing staph then only an improvement in about 40% of patients would be expected or an amount similar to the percentage of patients with staph overgrowth.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26243688

In another study that used a protocol that was somewhat similar to what you described in the diabetic people that were taking kefir in your town positive results were obtained. Although the results were definitely positive, they were not as good as what you reported, but good enough to suggest that kefir or fermented probiotic milk is worth trying as a safe non-invasive method of trying to improve diabetic status.

In the study, the fermented probiotic milk used was taken at a rate of 600ml per day or more than double the amount you mentioned of one cup and it was taken over an 8 week period, similar to what you described.

The fermented probiotic milk used in the study contained L. casei, L. acidophilus and bifidobacteria. You stated that the kefir used in your town contained L. casei and L. acidophilus.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4401881/

Your post prompted me to research and look for studies that could either add credence to your post or not. Based on what I was able to find, it does add credence to the idea that kefir is likely to be beneficial, safe an noninvasive for people with diabetes type 2. On the other hand, it suggested that either staph reduction is not the mode of improvement or it is not the only mode of action so I looked further and found another interesting study pertaining to this subject.

In this next study it was shown that the use of an "engineered probiotic" from lactobacillus was able to lower blood glucose levels up to 30% in diabetic rats. Here is a quote from the study:

The researchers found that upper intestinal epithelial cells in diabetic rats were converted into cells that acted very much like pancreatic beta cells, which monitor blood glucose levels and secrete insulin as needed to balance glucose levels in healthy individuals.

http://mediarelations.cornell.edu/2015/01/27/probiotic-helps-treat-diabetes-in-rats-could-lead-to-human-remedy/

It appears that this may shed further light on the mode of action of kefir and probiotics on diabetes. In any case, testing kefir and probiotics seem like worthwhile efforts for people with diabetes with the approval and supervision of their doctors.

On the chance that the kefir that was used in your town, MR. & Mrs. Kefir, is possibly different and or more effective than what was used in that study that I linked to, I looked for the brand that you used and found the starter grains on Amazon. To view it, just click on the small Amazon research link at the bottom of each post and enter the search term, "Mr. & Mrs. Kefir". It can be ordered from that page and you can read the 96 reviews which were quite high. People seem to take their kefir very seriously judging by some of the reviews!

Art,

According to Diabetes Research Center in Denmark, they found S. Aureus in the stools of all Diabetes II but no S. Aureus in the stools of non-Diabetes. The article you refer to says that only about 40 % of Diabetes has S. Aureus in their blood. I think that it takes time S. Aureus infection to spread from the digestive system into blood stream and hence the difference.

Regarding your second point of adding Bifidobacteria, the kefir we used in my town also contains Bifidobacteria. But from the research papers I read from the internet, my thinking is that the probiotics needed for Diabetes can be classified as follows:

Tier I (Critical) = L. Casei.

Tier II (Useful) = L. Acidophilus.

The best way to find whether there is a need for additional probiotic type and / or enzymes is as follows:

A Stool Analyzer analyzes the stools of Diabetes II for most pathogenic bacteria levels, probiotic bacteria levels and enzymes levels. These levels should be compared with those of non-diabetes. This may resolve this problem.

Regarding " Engineered Probiotics ", I have no idea since they have not mentioned the type of probiotics used to make this "Engineered Probiotics".

I agree with your suggestion that Diabetes II should take kefir under supervision of their doctors.

Saliba,

Probiotic bacterias need food (e.g. Lactose) to survive. Also, they can not survive in very low temperature as well as in warm temperature. If one uses Kefir routine, there should be atleast 10 % reduction of fasting blood sugar for diabetes over a period of 10 days. Otherwise something is wrong. In your case, Kefir is not in working condition. You can buy a fresh milk kefir starter online.

Some people think that "agent orange" may be a contributing factor to diabetes type 2 for people who were exposed to that pesticide while serving in Vietnam. Likely there are multiple causes though. Cetainly anything that upsets the microbial balance of the human gut may also be a contributing factor and that could be a lengthy list from bad eating habits to courses of antibiotics.

Many people spontaneously loose their type 2 diabetes after having a gastric by-pass without any other intervention. The human body is an extremely complicated life form which nobody on earth completely understands so there are many questions about the best way to maintain good health.

Some people who eat very healthy, maintain a good healthy weight, exercise, avoid all junk foods, sugars and alcohol, still get diabetes.

I think I remember Ted saying that he suspected bad oils and fats in the diet may be a cause once they oxidize in the body.

Blood Sugar Spikes After Cure

Some people who were Diabetes 2 for very long time are experiencing blood sugar spikes after cure. High blood sugar for a long time damaged considerable number of cells in their body. These damaged cells can not use insulin efficiently. Because of this, they are experiencing blood sugar spikes. If the damaged cells become normal cells, this problem will not occur.

The suggested techniques in the net for conversion of damaged cells into normal cells are :

1) Keep the body alkaline.

2) Take Vitamin C.

3) Take Chlorophyll.

These can be implemented by many different methods. One method is : Add lemon juice from one lemon, two teaspoon of Apple cider vinegar and a pinch of sea salt in a glass of water. Drink it before dinner. Both lemon juice and apple cider vinegar will keep the body alkaline and lemon juice will provide Vitamin C. For chlorophyll, one can take steam-cooked spinach, wheatgrass juice / powder, etc. This diet has to be followed for about 16 weeks.

I want to mention three people who were Diabetes II, followed Kefir Routine. They are now cured. I have personal knowledge of these three people:

1) Daughter of my own sister who is about 53 years old, feels that she became Diabetes II with high blood pressure problem after an antibiotic treatment one year ago. She took Kefir Routine about 12 weeks back. She took blood tests recently. The test indicates her A1c level 5.5 and her blood pressure is normal. She is very happy now since there is no need for her to take any diabetic or blood pressure medications.

2) A business associate of mine who is about 55 years old, believes that he became Diabetes II because of stress. He took Kefir Routine about 4 months back. After Kefir Routine, he went to his doctor for a check up. The doctor tested his fasting blood sugar level and blood sugar level 2 hours after eating. The doctor asked him what he took to reduce his blood sugar levels. He told the doctor that he took a probiotic food called 'Kefir' for about 8 weeks in the morning on empty stomach. The doctor was surprised to hear that a probiotic food can cure Diabetes II. The doctor told him that Diabetes II is supposed to be a life-long disease. His fasting blood sugar level used to be about 235 level. His doctor told him that maintaining that 235 level for him is very difficult using current allopathic medications. Doctor told him that he is cured. Then the doctor told him jokingly " This kind of probiotic treatment will affect the revenues of doctors who are specialists in diabetic care and also pharma companies which are manufacturing large quantities of diabetic medications. He is now trying to lead a stress free life.

3) A factory worker who is about 30 years old feels that she became Diabetes II due to stress caused by her alcoholic husband. She took Kefir Routine about 4 months back. Then she went to a government hospital for a check up. Her fasting blood sugar level was usually around 300. During check up, her blood sugar levels were near normal. The doctor asked her whether she took anything to reduce her blood sugar levels. She said she took nothing since she could not explain Kefir to his doctor. The doctor asked her to come back after one week. The next time also her blood sugar levels were near normal. The doctor told her " you are lucky and you are not diabetes anymore. But I can not give any reasons for that. ".

I hope the above information will be helpful. Kefir will cure not only Diabetes II but also high blood pressure problem since Kefir contains nitric oxide generating probiotic bacteria, L. Plantarum, L. rhamnosus and L. Fermentum.

The bad bacteria associated with Diabetes Type II is Staphylococcus Aureus (S. Aureus). There is another microbiological research paper available in the net titled " Antibacterial activity of isolated human intestinal microbiota Lactobacillus strains against methicillin resistant and susceptible Staphylococcus Aureus " by Maxton et al. This paper analyses the antibacterial activity of probiotic bacteria strains l. Casei, l. Achidophilus and l. Plantarum against five strains of Staphylococcus Aureus including three Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) strains. According to this paper, maximum inhibitory potential against S. Aureus was seen in L. Casei.

These probiotic strains provide natural protection against S. Aurues as long as these probiotics are in sufficient numbers in the digestive system. I believe that any substance that cures Diabetes II has to satisfy the following two conditions :

1) It should eliminate the bad bacteria, S. Aureus, from the digestive system as well as from the blood stream without any collateral damages to different probiotic strains in the digestive system. If probiotic strains are damaged, it may create many medical problems like high blood pressure, severe constipation, heart disease, Vitamin B12 and D3 deficiencies, etc.

2) It should increase the counts of probiotic strains that provide natural protection against any future invasion of S. Aureus in the digestive system. This will provide long lasting cure.

Milk kefir, a probiotic food, satisfies the above two conditions since it contains the above 3 probiotic strains. According to Russian microbiologist who won Noble Prize in the field of medicine (year 1908) "Ilya Mechnikov" believed that Kefir consumption would increase life expectancy.

I believe that it will take another 5 to 10 years to introduce probiotic treatments for Diabetes II in allopathy.

Kefir for Diabetes Type II - Additional Protocol

Some people who are Diabetes Type II for a long time, have two problems: S. Aureus infection and a considerable number of damaged cells in their body. Kefir clears S. Aureus infection but does not cure damaged cell problem. A cell in our body can be damaged by the following:

1) Free radicals

2) High glucose level

3) Radiation

4) Ultraviolet light, etc.

The first two are important for this case. Antioxidants (e.g., Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Beta Carotene (Vitamin A) ) can neutralize free radicals. During digestion, the body produces insulin ( A hormone ) and it is released for the digestion of carbohydrates in the diet. Insulin will make the normal cells in the body to store glucose to be used for energy later. But damaged cells in the body are resistant to insulin and are unable to use insulin effectively leading to high blood glucose level. High blood glucose level will damage some additional normal cells. But if damaged cells are replaced by normal cells in the body, this problem of insulin resistance will not occur.

Some people who took one cup of kefir in the morning on empty stomach for 8 weeks, find there fasting blood sugar levels are normal but the blood sugar levels two hours after eating are above normal level of 140. This is a possible indication of a considerable number of damaged cells in their body. To solve this problem also, one may follow the following procedures:

1) Take on cup of Kefir in the morning on empty stomach for 8 weeks. This will eliminate S. Aureus infection.

2) Prepare a cup of green drink using chlorophyll-rich foods like spinach, parsley, cilantro, kale, etc. Then add two teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice from one lemon, a pinch of turmeric and sea salt. Drink this liquid before dinner. This works as follows: Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice will keep the body alkaline. Once the body becomes alkaline, damaged cell multiplication will come to complete stop. Lemon juice contains vitamin C (Antioxidant) and free radicals will be neutralized by vitamin C. The drink contains a considerable amount of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll boosts synthesis and repair of damaged cells in the body. It plays an important role in the replacement of damaged cells by normal cells.

The above protocol comes from many articles in the net and also from my understanding of these articles. If there is any corrections or additions, please let me know.

Best Wishes P. Raghavan.

Probiotic Capsules For Diabetes Type II

There is a simple treatment available to cure Diabetes Type II using multi strain probiotic capsules. The multi strain probiotic capsules are available for about US dollar 28 (60 capsules) in Amazon.com. Its name is : ULTRA-30 probiotics - 18 strains - 60 capsules. Eighteen probiotic strains in the capsule are : 1) L. Casei 2) L. Achidophilus 3) L. Plantarum 4) L. Fermentum 5) L. Rhamnous 6) L. Paracasei 7) L. Gasseri 8) L. Bulgaricus 9) L. Salivarius 10) L. Helveticus 11) S. Thermophilus 12) L. Reuteri 13) B. Longum 14) B. Infantis 15) B. Breve 16) B. Lactis 17) B. Bifidum 18) B. Coagulans.

The first 11 strains are in Kefir. But last 7 strains are not in Kefir. The following procedure is to be followed for 60 days:

1) Take 1 probiotic capsules in the morning 30 minutes before breakfast. This will eliminate S. Aureus infection in the body by L. Casei and L. Achidophilus.

2) Make one cup of green drink using one or more of the following Chlorophyll - rich foods like: spinach, cilantro, parsley, wheat grass, etc. Then add 2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice from 1 lemon and a pinch of sea salt. This has to be taken 30 minutes before dinner or 2 hours after dinner. This green drink will try to convert damaged cells caused by high blood sugar into normal cells. Damaged cells will not use Insulin efficiently.

One should not take any probiotics if the person is taking immunosuppressive drugs or has a weakened immune system. It is advisable to take this treatment under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

This treatment has the following additional benefits:

1) It will cure high blood pressure problem if it is due to probiotic imbalance.

2) It will correct any Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies since it contains L. Reuteri. Many diseases are associated with Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies.

3) The probiotics in this capsule will try to correct heart disease problem by controlling bad cholesterol (LDL) and Triglycerides in the digestive system itself.

Amy,

Follow the probiotic capsule and alkalizing green drink protocol for 60 days and do the following steps:

1) Check the blood sugar levels. If the fasting blood sugar level is normal ( less than 100 ) and also the blood sugar level two hours after eating is also normal ( less than 140 ), you are cured.

2) If the fasting blood sugar is not normal ( more than 100 ), it indicates that S. Aureus infection is not cleared. Then you have to take both probiotic capsule and alkalizing green drink for another 30 days and go to step 1.

3) If the fasting blood sugar is normal and the blood sugar level two hours after eating is not normal, it indicates that S. Aureus infection is cleared but there may be a considerable number of damaged cells in the body. In this case, there is no need to take probiotic capsules but continue to take alkalizing green drink for another 30 days. Then go to Step 1.

Regarding preparation of alkalizing green drink, take one cup of chlorophyll-rich food and add one half cup of water. Then put them in a blender and extract the green juice. Add 2 teaspoon of ACV, lemon juice from one lemon and a pinch of sea salt. Drink this thirty minutes before dinner.

1. Do we have to wait for the kefir to separate completely? Is it sufficient to see small whey bubbles/ pockets?

A. Kumar,

Regarding your questions on kefir, 12-hour fermented kefir will act like a mild laxative whereas more than 24-hour fermented kefir may cause constipation. My kefir has yogurt consistency. You may try different brands of milk which should not contain any preservatives. Adding some fruits will not alter its qualities.

Since both of you are having insulin resistance, it may indicate a considerable number of damaged cells in the body due to high blood sugar.

Kefir will solve S. Aureus infection problem ; but it will not solve damaged cell problem. It is advisable to follow the following protocol for about 8 weeks:

1) Take one cup of kefir in the morning on empty stomach.

2) Prepare alkalizing green drink as follows:

Take one cup any chlorophyl-rich food like spinach, kale, cilantro, parsley, etc. Add one cup of water. Extract green juice using a blender. Then add lemon juice from one lemon and a pinch of sea salt. Drink it in the evening. This green drink will try to convert damaged cells into normal cells.

Best wishes.

P. Raghavan.

Can this kefir be cultured without dairy? Will these grains work in almond milk or water? Thanks

Re: Kefir for Diabetes Type II

Yes. You can make your own kefir using almond milk or water. Make sure kefir starter contains L. Casei and L. Achidophilus. But most kefir starters contain these two probiotic strains.

Best wishes

Thank you Raghaven. I was wondering if all the people cured took the Mr/Mrs kefir or another brand?

Which brand did you purchase that also contains bifidus cultures? (how did you find out what cultures are in particular kefir?

I understand water kefir contains less probiotic strains..would this work as well?

Did any one experience skin improvements? thank you so much for your help and information!

Hello P. Raghavan,

I wanted to ask you about the green drink for repairing damaged cells. Would it be OK to just take a chlorophyll supplement to do so? I have found after a month of drinking the green drink, the lemon juice may be irritating my bladder? Not sure if this would be associated with it or not, however, I just wanted to ask. Is it just the chlorophyll that mainly repairs the cells or do you need the lemon, salt and apple cider vinegar?

Thank you for your help and advice!

Amy,

You may take the following instead of green drink:

1) Chlorophyll supplements.

2) A 500 mg vitamin C tablets twice a day.

3) 1/4th teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water or juice. It has to be taken twice a day.

If you have neuropathic pain, you can mix 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 1/4th teaspoon of baking soda. Apply this over the painful are during night. You may also take Alpha Lipoic Acid daily.

Best wishes

Gauri,

Your husband may take simultaneously Kefir or probiotic capsule containing L. Casei and L. Achidophilus in the morning and green drink in the evening. Also, he should take 500 mg Vitamin C tablet thrice a day. He will be cured in about 8 weeks.

Best wishes.

Anon,

According to an article in World Journal of Gastroenterology tittled " Diagnosis and treatment of diabetes mellitus in chronic pancreatitis " pancreatogenic diabetes is called " Type 3c diabetes mellitus ". Therefore, I believe it is Diabetes Type 3 C not Diabetes Type II.

I am consuming water kefir for the past 6 months and don't see a great improvement in the BG level. After reading your post I feel this may happen because I am taking the water kefir in the middle of the day and not in empty stomach.

1. Can I take "Water Kefir" instead of Milk Kefir?

2. How long should I not take any other food or medicine after taking water kefir?

Thanks in advance and appreciate your great work!

Hi,

Is it possible to check/test if the kefir contains the two strains - L. Casei and L. Acidophillus?

Dear Mr. Raghavan, I have had diabetes over 25 years. I could not get Mr&Mrs Kefir in Canada.

So I bought bottles of Kefir with L.Caei and L.acidophyllus. It didnt work.

So I started Multi strain Probiotic 1 capsule daily. Also started Chlorophyll etc.

My Question is since my diabetes is long standing should I take 2 caps of Probiotics.I also started on Inulin.

I hope you see this message to reply

Thank you Rathna

Hi Rathna,

I don't think taking two multi strain probiotic capsules daily will help you. Probiotics will try to clear any infection in the body. Once the infection is cleared, your fasting blood sugar will be near normal. Since you are diabetes over 25 years, you may have a large number of damaged cells in the body due to high blood sugar. These damaged cells need to be converted into normal cells as follows:

1) Keep the body alkaline by consuming lemon juice, lemon juice and baking soda, spinach juice etc.

2) Take antioxidants like Alpha Lipoic Acid, carrot juice, vitamin C, berries, etc.

3) Take chlorophyll.

Best Wishes.

There are about 39 trillion bacteria in the human body. An average healthy adult has about:

1) 90 % of them are good (probiotic) bacteria,

2) 10 % of them are bad bacteria.

There is a video available in the net from Diabetes Research Center at the university of copenhagen titled " Type 2 Diabetes may be caused by gut bacteria ". According to this, the researchers found probiotic imbalance in the digestive system of Type 2 Diabetes. Probiotics supports our body's ability to absorb nutrients and fight infection. One can correct this probiotic imbalance by consuming probiotic foods (e.g. Kefir, Mung bean soaked fermented water, etc.) or multi-strain probiotic capsules/tablets.

Best wishes.

Dear Mr. Raghavan

I am writing to let you know my progress. After taking probiotic capsules and green juice for one month there was no change in my diabetes. but after another 2 weeks I started to notice slight changes in my BG readings. The morning fasting level was down below 7.0(126 I think) Another week later it was below 6.0. Couple of days BG was below 4.0 and I had to drink some orange juice very early in the morning. I waited for my A1C test before writing here. It has come down only one point yet. After discussing with my diabetic nurse I have reduced my Medicines.

But I am not giving up. Started another round of Probiotics and green juices, Chlorophyll etc. Previously I had forgotten to take Vit.C or ALA but this time I am not going to forget.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. If I can bring down my diabetes with minimum medicine I will be very happy.

Dear Ratna,

Since your fasting blood sugar is improving, it indicates that the probiotics you consume are trying to clear any infection in your body. Fasting blood sugar is mostly due to toxins released by the bad bacteria in the body. Since you are Diabetes 2 for a long time, you may have a considerable number damaged cells in your body due to high sugar level. These damaged cells need to be converted to normal cells by following three steps:

1) Take antioxidants like ALA, carrot juice, etc.

2) Keep the body alkaline by consuming lemon juice and/or baking soda, etc.

3) Take chlorophyll by consuming green drinks, etc.

ALA may work like a miracle since it is one of the five antioxidants produced by our body.

Best wishes.
