Hi there, does anyone know if you can do oil pulling with a temporary crown? My dentist said it shouldn't be a problem because it's not alcohol based, but she doesn't know anything about oil pulling. What are you experiences? I don't want to stop because I've had great results with op, but I don't want my crown to fall off either.

Nk, if it's temporary, you can wait untill a permanent one is put on. No harm done and you won't undo the good of oil pulling till now.

Love this website. Very grateful for all the drug-free tips.

I've tried oil pulling for the last 3 months and I have only seen benefits. I have noticed my energy has soared and my breath is better, teeth are whiter and no more bleeding gums. I don't feel the need to smoke as much nowadays. Suppressed appetite, and I'm able sleep better and much deeper. I will now and forever keep oil pulling.

Hi my name is emily. I read about oil pulling on a korean website. It said that the people who have amalgam can't do oil pulling for more than 5 minutes because it is very toxic. One time ive tried it for 5 minutes and it was still thick and not thin as it was supposed to be. id like to know if it is true that I can't do it for more than 5 minutes.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hello all, I have been oil pulling for a week, once in every morning with EVOO first then switched to cold pressed sesame oil. My skin glows after my first trial, however I'm unable to sleep since day one of oil pulling, thoughts keep flashing through while lying on bed, even if I finally fell asleep, I'll have dreams non-stop.

While using EVOO, I can still feel quite calm and happier mood during the day even I have trouble sleeping. But after switching to sesame oil, I started to feel anxious during daytime.

Is it a sign of detoxification? or the oil I've used does not suit me? Shall I switch of cold-pressed Sunflower oil for a mild detoxification?

Many thanks. Summer

I'm a little late on this one....but, if you discover, especially after a period of detox, something you are doing is not making you feel better, sleep better, have a semblance of energy for your daily functions, stop doing it! In the case of oil pulling, change up on the oil if you don't get good reactions to a certain oil. Life is too short to wallow in misery! Love to all ECers after some time away.... THE CAT

Hi, I was wondering which type of oil would be best for the purpose of remineralizing teeth. I've read that several people have had success stories, and even cured cavities, but I can not seem to find exactly which type of oil works best for this purpose. Also, how long before you had noticed results? How many times a day did you pull? Thank you!

Hi Smile, I know you were asking about oil pulling to re-mineralize teeth but I thought you might like this audio interview with Nadine Artemis who is working to educate people on re-mineralizing teeth through natural means. I had posted it awhile back and others enjoyed it. I always learn a lot from her and thought what she has to say may be of interest to you.

Best to you, Lisa

I thought it may be of some worth to post my barbaric method of teeth mineralization as opposed to dr recommended. In times past, when experiencing teeth pain or sensitivity I would occasionally swish a small amount of my livestock grade micronized major/trace minerals in water (the micronize dissolve very well and are ready for absorption). Careful attention is needed to use "just a pinch" as too much can be abrasive and result in tender gums. As my overall health condition worsened in the recent past, I was quickened to graduate from my once or twice daily foot mineral bath to whole body. As some of you may see where this is going, well, it seems to be working very well, just swishing the mineral water while bathing. I also add extra Boric Acid, Magnesium, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Iodine (Povidone), plus DMSO as carrier. I also pre-dose Taurine to help w/ mineral utilization. Every once-in-a-while I add couple drops Ionic Trace Minerals to a 1/4 cup of water for swishing with good results.

I read for several hours about OP and then drove 20 minutes to town to fetch "OILS"... I have a sinus infection and was very uncomfortable and needed some relief. Sunflower oil for 20 minutes and my nose opened up and the sinus pressure is gone. I intend to continue with OP to see if the claims of better stomach health are true. It was not easy at first... There is a gag reflex, and I must admit that my mouth feels really fresh and clean. The baking soda brushing felt great also... Drink plenty of water and I am sure your experience will be just as good. I am amazed!

Hello. I started oil pulling one week ago, mainly due to a massive toothache I had. I've had work done in the area, but with no insurance, a trip to the dentist was definitely not happening. So I looked for everything. I'm happy to say that I no longer have the sharp pain in that side of the mouth. But the area, my jaw, and my mouth in general still feels sore, almost like when I got my wisdom teeth pulled. I've also been experiencing general fatigue and body aches that I assumed were just detox symptoms. But aren't they supposed to last just for a few days? I feel like I've been sick for a week.

Another curious thing is anytime my head is upside down (I practice yoga), I feel pressure at the top of my nose and smell a strong scent that reminds me of tooth decay. I know this is disgusting, but it seriously reminds me of when I got my last root canal... The smell when the endodontist was removing the decay. What can be causing this? I do, unfortunately, have a mouth full of amalgam fillings. I've read about the concerns about pulling with these, but I've also read the arguments. Like wouldn't you want to draw out the mercury if you're able to spit it out? And if your fillings do fall out, oil pulled the decay from under it, and it's time to get them refilled anyhow. I don't know how true any of this is. I've read everything online, but there definitely isn't much on the topic. I pull for 20 minutes in the morning every day and some days in the afternoon a second time. I started with coconut oil since that's what we had but have bought sesame oil to use instead now. Should I continue pulling? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Victoria, I hate to say this, but I seriously think you have an infection in your jaw! This is NOT a typical detox reaction!! It is the infection causing the soreness in your jaw. If you have pressure in your head, especially when upside-down, it is likely the infection has spread into your sinuses, and that is also causing the decaying smell. Infections smell gross, they have a rotten smell! Do not mess around, you need to get an antibiotic treatment. Infections, especially in your head, can go terribly wrong very fast. Please go see a doctor or dentist right away. Antibiotics are very cheap now! Usually they are only $4. If you have a very kind doctor or dentist they may be able to call in the prescription without an office visit, if you explain your situation. Most doctors/dentist also will discount their price if you ask and do not have insurance. Don't cause yourself more harm by waiting. Infections in your head or bone are very serious.

I have to agree with Sophie, it sounds like an infection. Until you can get to a dentist, I would use some fresh garlic. If you slice it and apply it to the area that is painful, it should help. I leave it between my cheek and gum, with the cut side facing the gum, overnight while I sleep. It's works miracles. Read up on it on EC, many people have had much success. I wish you luck.

I have been oil pulling with coconut oil for over 6 months now and I have had amazing results in two areas: my sinuses and my breath, I guess the two were related.

I have had terrible sinuses since I was a kid, hereditary, my father was always pulling mucous and spitting out (gross) several times every single day. Mine sinuses were not that bad, but was bad enough.

First I tried nasal rinsing with neti pots and then the sinus wash bottle. It worked great by getting rid of my tonsil stones and I still do sinus rinse occasionally.

Oil pulling does a great job of pulling out excess mucous from the sinuses a d cleaning out the nasal passages.

I have not had a cold in several months, my sinuses are clear and I have great breath. Thank you earth clinic.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I started oil pulling with organic VCO. I followed the procedure and even did the 5 minutes ted recommended instead of 20. My skin looked great and my gums started to improve but about a week after, I noticed that my teeth were sensitive. It was as if my fillings were loosening. I had to chew slowing and avoid sugar, even xyitol. After I stopped pulling, most of the sensitivity went away. Has anyone else experienced this? I'd like to continue but not if my fillings are going to loosen.

I keep seeing this term that I am totally unfamiliar with and different oils being used. Would someone please tell me exactly what it is or how to do it? I am having some difficulty and cannot continue to sit here trying to look up things.

I saw the discussion regarding mouth wash vs. using Baking Soda after the oil pulling. It is really important, if you use baking soda (I do) to use one without Aluminum. Red Mill for example, makes Baking Soda that states on the package that it is Aluminum Free. Personally, I also mix in salt with the baking soda. I use Celtic Sea Salt.

All the best, Dorit

The web of skin is usually a result of an allergy to sodium laurel sulfate in your toothpaste. Try a SLS free toothpaste.

I have a question about oil pulling, preferably with coconut oil, which I would use to improve my general oral health.

I was born with hip dysplasia and when I was about 3 or 4 years old, I had pins and screws inserted into each of my hips to hold things in place. I am now 19. Now this might be a silly question, but will oil pulling affect these metal screws and pins at all? Will it damage them or make them weaker?

Hi Ted: I'm curious what your opinion is on my situation. I started oil pulling a week ago, and have not noticed any significant changes. I have 7 root canals and 14 crowns. I suffer from osteoarthritis of the knees and shoulders mostly, but also fatigue and depression. I eat gluten free, sugar free and very low starch, mostly organic; no packaged food, pop or even juice. Just quinoa, flax and chia seed, organic vegetables, and some local fish, and free range chicken with an apple here and there. I am wondering if the op is going to remove the bacteria at the base of the root canals, and as I have read recently, could be the cause of my arthritis. I'm thinking of having all the root canals pulled, but I can't afford all the bridge work to replace them. Any advice from you would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your time, Donna

Please read this article about root canals:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/11/16/why-you-should-avoid-root-canals-like-the-plague.aspx

I would keep doing the oil pulling if I were you. I think inflammation and bacteria from the root canals is definitely connected to arthritis, which arises from inflammation. Get the root canalled teeth pulled as soon as you can afford it.
