Antibiotic Side Effect Remedies

| Modified on Jan 22, 2024

You developed a terrible sore throat, went to the doctor, and discovered you had strep throat. The doctor prescribed an antibiotic that seemed to help you get better but you're still dealing with some lasting side effects including bowel discomfort and headaches. What is the cause? We would say the most likely cause is the antibiotic you took.

While antibiotics can knock out some illnesses, these medication often cause additional issues that can be just as difficult to treat. If you have experienced an adverse reaction to a round of antibiotics, we suggest treating this issues naturally using yogurt, probiotic supplements, or even garlic.

What Are Antibiotics Used For?

Antibiotics are medications known as antibacterials. These medications function to destroy or slow down the growth of common bacteria, so they are often used to treat any issue caused by or linked to a specific type of bacteria.

Common conditions that are treated with antibiotics are illnesses such as syphilis, tuberculosis, salmonella, and meningitis. Ear infections, strep throats, urinary tract infections, and other common bacterial infections can also be treated using antibiotics.

What Effects Do Antibiotics Have on My Body?

The major problem with antibiotics, however, is that they cause a myriad of additional symptoms and side effects. While side effects vary by individual, a number of symptoms of antibiotic toxicity are common. Diarrhea, feeling sick, fungal infections in the mouth, infections of the digestive tract and/or vagina, kidney stones, abnormal blood clotting, sun sensitivity, blood disorders, and even deafness are potential effects of antibiotics.

Can I Reverse the Effects of Antibiotics?

While some effects are easier to reverse than others, a number of antibiotic side effects can be reversed. We suggest using yogurt, probiotic supplements, and garlic as first line defenses. However, drinking additional water, increasing exercise levels, and eating lots of antioxidant foods are also important treatment support options.

Yogurt and Probiotics

One cause of side effects associated with antibiotics is the imbalance of bacteria in the body. As yogurt contains active bacteria cultures, it can effectively treat issues, particularly intestinal, caused by antibiotics. The same is true for probiotics.

Garlic

Garlic contains an important compound known as allicin. This compound helps flush your kidneys and liver and cleanses the blood. Adding garlic to your diet and taking a daily supplement of 500 mg is a helpful way to detox your body from antibiotics.

If you have recently completed a round of antibiotics and are still feeling the aftermath, give one or all of these treatment options a try and let us know how it works for you.

Flurofloxacin for infections is incredibly DANGEROUS.

Have a look at this. I would guess the nastys were so pleased, back in 1930's, with the effects of fluoride that they continued to work on it. They can have their poxy world.

And here is a partial cure.

Need to check out which Magnesium is best and if anything else is known to help.

People Who Tried to Kill Me.

Mum and Dad, the minute I popped out of Mum – had my first, second hand smoke. I had infections up until I was 14 and addicted to cigarettes. At 9 or 10, the Doc. removed my tonsils & adenoids which I believe are part of the Immune system. At 17 – 18 I started asthma, due to smoking & used Ventolin which also relaxes the muscles at the base of the tongue, which when sleeping on my back, flops over & blocks the windpipe, stopping breathing, the most terrifying thing ever. Also started steroids which causes cataracts which I had removed years later which caused double eyelids which makes me feel sleepy. 33 my left lung collapsed. The Doc. sucked it up again & all was OK but then the tube popped of the sucker, and a nurse placed it back on the pumping side, pumping in to my chest two litres of water, mercurochrome, & some other chemical, causing extreme pain. 34 the right lung collapsed, thanks Mum & Dad and the Gov. that loves cigarette tax$. At 50 in Thailand felt ectopic heart beat. Hospital wanted to insert a machine, I refused & it cleared up.

At around 70 in Thailand got hit by a car & received two breaks in the jaw bone & one in the thin leg bone. The first hospital had no x-ray for the jaw so went to the best hospital in BKK, BNH where I was asked for money first & bargained three times. I told them no ICU. Woke in ICU, hands chained to the bed rails out of reach of the call button & with an oxy mask that was suffocating me. Couldn't call but rattled my chains. ‘Help' arrived. 83, went to a hospital in Trang for 10 minutes, just to ask a question, left with acute sinus & chest infection, after two days went to ‘my' doctor & the bastard gave me Ciprofloxacin antibiotic poison which I took for two days then returned the pill poisons.

Just those two days – 4000mg caused me more harm than anything previous. It is plain & simple fluoride, which is designed to cause brain fog, susceptiveness & many aches & pains. Makes good slaves. I was lucky or clever because I have been eating Hydrated Magnesium Chloride and Lugols Iodine for 2 years plus, and I believe this helped defend me from Bayers steel boot. I cant believe how the planets slaves just sit back and take the pain and suffering dealt out by the Big Pharmas steel boots. Look at how they have set up just three other steel boots to ban the use of herbal products. Codex Alimentarius, Therapeutic Goods Act and the FDA, all to increase their income and not a thought for the citizens. This is why we cant buy H202, Iodine plus heaps more. Sound like war to you does it? No? Well more humans are killed by doctors, hospitals and medicines that in all the wars ever. Every year. Non de Plume

Antibiotic Side Effects

I need to address this to Ted or someone else who may know about what may have caused this in my daddy. About 3 weeks ago he had a UTI and the doctor prescribed an antibiotic. My dads blood pressure has always been up and down and he takes meds for this. But never as high as it is going now.

He had a very bad reaction to the antibiotics prescribe, his UTI burned worse and he had very bad stomach cramping. He also broke out with these blister ( which we suspect to be Steven Johnsons Syndrome ) The side affects, this was listed as blisters on the skin. They switch his antibiotic and the blisters begin to dry in, but he still has pain in his stomach and his blood pressure is way out of control. Talking about 220 over 100 and sometimes it comes down to like 150 over 90. But is out of control. This happened after the reaction to the antibiotic and has not ceased. They change his BPM, it is not working.

My first thought was clogged valves in his heart, but now I believe his liver may have been Inflamed or damage by the 1st antibiotic. If you have any pain, infection, inflamation or damage this can raise BP. So I tried to get him to go to ER, He refused. Really has distrust for doctor now, since he is worse since going the 1st time. So I begged and pleaded for him to try some stuff to get the BP down.

I got him to take some magnesium, coQ10, and milk thistle. He would not do cayenne pepper or vinegar. an hour later he tested BP and it was 195 over 100. Still very high, but down some.

He does return to the doctors office tomorrow afternoon. The pain in the stomach and the very high spike in BP did not happen until he took the 1st antibiotic and had this reaction. Will anything detox him from this. It says Steven Johnsons could cause permanent damage and even death.

Hi -- Ted mentions that if there is UTI to take a teasp of celtic salt which he has done several times. Good results immediately.

So I did the same when I suspected UTI and indeed immediately it was gone. What a wonderful, easy remedy.I would not dream of using antibiotics. Thank you Ted.

Hello Rebel,

Re: Father's BP/possible SJS...

The fact your dad was given the antibiotics in the first place indicated the Doctor was trying to deal with an infection of some kind.

If you google "Stevens Johnson syndrome virus" you can find a PubMed 1996 article on SJS and another similar syndrome .... third sentence in the article, "Viral triggers are known triggers of these skins disorders."

I guessing...dad had a stomach virus (and likely still does which is the reason for the stomach pain)...he was given antibiotic which does not kill virus. Either or both the virus and the antibiotic (reaction to the med is also considered a cause of SJS) resulted in SJS symptoms...and the BP spiking might be a result of the system trying to deal with the new SJS development.

So need to get the underlying cause (likely cause) under control. Numerous anti viral supplements to consider. Echinacea in water and orally consume over many days; olive leaf powder capsules is an anti viral and anti fungal. My favorite is Colloidal Silver.

I'd use two tablespoons of CS three times daily on empty stomach for a full month and monitor result. I'd also treat this condition like a stomach ulcer situation. So I'd also take DGL (licorice extract) and quarter cup of a good quality Aloe Vera to heal burn.

But the main thing is to kill the presumed virus.

I suspect that your dad has had a magnesium deficiency for awhile. High blood pressure is a symptom of low magnesium.

If he was given a tetracycline, penicillin or gentamicin as the first antibiotic that seemed to push him over the edge, then it is very likely magnesium deficiency is at least part of the problem, because these antibiotics deplete magnesium.

High blood pressure and cramping are the symptoms that make me suspect magnesium loss as the culprit for this episode. Google antibiotics and mineral depletion, as well as the name of his bload pressure medicine to get an idea as to what vitamins are being depleted

Thank you OM, Dave and Nanowriter. I had read on Ted's remedies about the magnesium and Royal Jelly. My dad is not back from the doctor yet, but this is what he is taken right now. Approx 750mg magnesium, 600mg CoQ10 1000mg milk thistle twice daily. He is real hard to talk to about remedies. He has this believe that everything he takes, makes his prostate hurt.

I mentioned the sea salt before he ever went to the medical doctor, but he lagged around and would not take it. He went medical route and now has more problems.

In the past when he had a lot of prostate problems, I had him taking Essiac Tea. His PSA had gotten really high and he went in for biopsy to check for cancer. No cancer was found, thankfully. But after no cancer was found he stopped taking the tea. His says, he did not believe the tea helped him, but it did bring down his BP, Triglycerides and cholesterol while he was taking it. So why he is so hard headed is beyond me.

I will keep you all posted after I know more about what the medi doc told him. Again Thank you all.

So my dad had went to medi doc on Wed 7-16-14 and was told to give BPM time to work and come back in a week. His BP continued to rise and he finally went to ER today. They changed his BP meds and says he still has urinary tract infection. They sent him home with BP being 190 over 105 and says this is not a danger level.

Well they told me when mine was just 150 over 90 that I might just drop dead and needed BP meds as fast as possible. Boy, these doctors. They tell him they see people with levels of 300 over 150 sometimes and to give his new BP med time to work and his heart is good. They also gave him another antibiotic for urinary tract infection.

Close to the same scenario w/ me couple yrs back. I got some basic diagnostics plus the hbp reading and was discharged w/ the recommendation to visit primary care Dr.At that point in time I was never able to make so much as an afternoon appointment so about 3 months pass and I experience a very bad night and have someone take me to ER about 7:00am w/ hbp reading higher than previous. I was prescribed Lisinopril and went back home w/ some assistance (many other issues going on). The meds helped immediately but not enough.

I too was having urinary track/kidney problems and by a stroke of good fortune received a mail order of D-Mannose and took about 1/2 spoon immediately and within 1/2 hr was back on my feet again and stabilized enough to care for myself. I find the D-Mannose much easeyer to stomouch as the Cranberry was often to acidic and harsh. For best results I fallow either of the two aforementioned w/ Dr Christopher's Kidney/Bladder herbal combination. The herb Chaparral is also a good Kidney as well as Liver cleanser which I take periodically. A strong Magnet Therapy directly over the liver also lowers my bp reading.

I've been battling a sinus infection since October of 2012, seems it's now going away but I've taken Bactrim twice, then keflex, then ciprofloxacin because I am allergic to Augmentin/Amoxicillin. before the Cipro, I was getting some lower abdominal pains, went to the doc who prescribed me the Cipro, and told me to eat a yogurt a day. I did as instructed, Cipro didnt help the sinusitis at all, to this day I've been having quick sharp pains, some gas pains, and my stool has been yellowish and soft, painful when coming out of the rectum. I have recently started a probiotic with acidophilus. 3 a day, along with 1-2 yogurts per day. I was hoping someone could share some insight to help ease my mind a little bit before my doctors appointment on Monday. As well as what kinds of things I should ask my doctor during this visit. I am extremely tired of having stuff wrong with me, I just want to be normal again so I don't have to worry so much. Thanks in advance to all who help.

Hello, sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Colloidal silver is good for immunity and can be bought as an inhaler. Food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted in distilled water can also be inhaled or spritzed into your nose and throat or swallowed 3 hrs after eating. Iodine either from kelp or lugols works well too just in water or juice as indicated on bottle. Super dosing vitamin C and other minerals and vitamins. Apple cider vinegar in water or juice. Really there are many ways to fight your infection.

Avoid certain foods that depress immunity such as artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners, sugar and fried foods. Good sources of probiotic bacteria are found in kimchee, sauerkraut, kefir, probiotic yogurt, apple cider vinegar. Check out other posts regarding viruses and detoxing. There are some really amazing tips here that can change your life! Wishing you well again soon!

I had a dental fistula it required oral surgery I reluctantly accepted antibiotics from my MD putting me on clindamycin for 5 weeks. I researched Clindamycin and was shocked, it should be taken off the market I decided I do some things to offset the side effects.

My MD also gave me doctor gave me Saccharomyces boulardi and therelac not to be mistaken with threelac . I also took floraster and vital 10 which is in the billions. The word probiotic orgin is greek, "For Life." We need this to protect our bodies. I take the probiotics 4 times a day . I also empty a few of the capsules into a couple cups of sterlized warm water in my yogurt maker the temperature of yogurt makers are generally 110 . If If don't own a yogurt maker you can put it in the warming oven at 110. Then let it sit for 8 to 10 hours and let the probiotics bacteria will begin to multiply into the billions and trillions. This is the biggest bang for your buck! Then before bed after you have a BM or an enema your colon is clear. Lay down two big soft towels in your bathroom. Then take the probiotic water content put in an enema bag and then let the content drain into your colon. If your not physically comprimised then do a shoulder stand on the soft towel this allows the probiotics water to go deep into the colon, then lay down on the towel and roll all the way around, and hold for thirty minutes and then empty. For the greatest benefits, hold some of probiotics water in the colon overnight. I also would put some of the probiotics water solution in a glass and water bottle and drink it throughout the day and eat non lactose kefir as well. Also consider the anti candida diet for a few months when taking antibiotic this keeps the bad bugs from growing. Take vitamin C vitamin helps tissue regenerate, and vitamin B protects your digestion and works with probotics. Take Glutamine helps heal your stomach lining. Aloe vera juice helps soothe and heal the stomach. Take colustrum or transfer factor multi immune this is what new born babies get from their mothers, it is truly amazing one of the natures greatest protectors . Eat kimchi sauerkraut and garlic

Antibiotic can cause seious side effects months later, it seems the risks of taking antibiotics, may far outweight the benefits. In certain cases, you must take it. When a MD prescribes antibiotics do NOT just accept the pills, this your options tell them you want the antibiotics in a shot or get IV antibiotics this way your controlling what happens to your body and your in charge! It is damage control and your stomach doesn't get torn up, this way. Even this method has side effects.

My Naturopathic is also a MD, she told me they can prescribe natural alternatives that have next to no side effects and that plant microbials are more powerful than any synthetic man-made antibiotics I totally believe it. Some case studies are out there. Be well

I seem to do well when taking minocin and amoxicillin. even my stomach flora seems to do well. I won't take any others due to the severe effect they have. I took minocin (not minocycline) for two years with no ill effect for experimentation purposes. it started curing my fibromyalgia that I had for over 30 years within days. I have been cured for 15 years.

I keep amoxicillin on hand to either nip dental problem in the bud or buy time for alternatives. this has worked for me so far. I'd like to try to find a natural alternative to amoxicillin that is just as effective. Any suggestions?

Cipro has fluoroquinolones in which is the chemical, fluoride atoms which causes fluoride poisoning. Not to scare you Cipro can cause tendons to snap, even months after you take it! Once people get educated on fluoride it's dangers it will not be allowed in the water medicine or toothpaste. Best approach is to see a ND and immediately start working on a detoxificatation, and they can assist the liver that apparently is overwhelmed by the fluoride poisoning.

This is a warning for anyone taking antibiotics to do your homework before blindly accepting the advise of the medical establishment. I guess it pays to be proactive when it comes to our own health, and no one can advocate for you better than you.

I spent 4 days in hospital 3 weeks ago for what turned out to be my first, and only, I hope, kidney stone. I had also developed a pretty serious infection with a high fever, very low BP, and low oxygen levels. During my stay I was on a morphine drip, and received 2 different IV antibiotics. Upon my release I was given a prescription for a 7 day course of Ciprofloxacn (Generic for Cipro). It never occurred to me to question this, and I took it for the full 7 days. I was still pretty sick and in bed much of the time, and on the 4th day home developed a serious case of hives. These were large, incredibly itchy, and literally on every part of my body but my head and the soles of my feet. Nothing seemed to give me much relief, and the 3rd day of this I called the doctor's office to find out if they had any idea what could be causing this. They pretty much blew me off, told me to take Benedryl and thought maybe it was the morphine. I suffered for nearly 2 weeks before it began to clear up. I thought maybe it was the probiotics I was taking, or the pain meds, which I quit at the first sign of the hives. Never did it dawn on me it could be the antibiotic, and I never googled it. Then, in preparation for the lithotripsy I have scheduled for blasting my 12mm stone, I went back in for some tests. I had been feeling like I had a mild bladder infection for a few days, but thought it might just be the stent they put in temporarily. The nurse practitioner checked my urine and sure enough, I did have an infection. Because I have no insurance, she gave me some sample antibiotics, a 5 day course of Levaquin. Although I hated the thought of a fourth round, I knew I could not have the lithotripsy done with an active infection.

Anyway, and sorry to go on so - by the time I got home from the doc I was really feeling uncomfortable with classic UTI symptoms big time. I took the 1st pill (one a day)but by that night I was in real pain. I wondered if I could take the 2nd dose the same day, I know I have been instructed to do that in the past, so I went online and googled Levaquin. Well, I just couldn't believe all the negative information out there about it. I will let anyone interested do their own research, but one web site was similar to this one, with people, hundreds of them, writing in about their horror stories of Fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. And one of the main side effects (and one of the more minor ones, really) is terrible hives. There are so many reported side effects that last year the FDA issued an order for a "black box warning" on these drugs, which is the last step before a drug is pulled off the market. Why my bottle had no warning is a mystery to me...could it be because it is the generic equivalent? How scary. Another serious side effect suffered by many is ruptured tendons. The list is long and there are many victims.

I have not taken another pill, and just the one caused my rash to come back on my flank and ankles, but I am so thankful I didn't take the full course.

Big question is...even after alerting this Nurse Practitioner to my rash, even showing her the resulting bruise like marks all over my legs and back, she still merrily turned around and gave me more of the same, saying it couldn't be the antibiotics.

That is when I found this site, looking for something to try and treat my UTI without drugs. When I saw all the positive reports from using Apple Cider Vinegar, I began taking it right away. I took 3 T. in a glass of water about 6 pm, and again about 10 pm. I fell asleep on the couch, still very uncomfortable, but when I woke at 3 am, I knew it was working. By the next morning I felt better than I had in weeks. I believe the antibiotic I was sent home with never got rid of the infection, and the discomfort I was feeling and blaming on the stent was actually a UTI, and perhaps my body reacting in other ways to this drug.

This is the 3rd day since, and I have been taking 2 T. Vinegar in a full glass of filtered water about 4 times a day. I feel good, and hope the urine test I have to take before the lithotripsy shows no more infection. If it has not cleared up, I'll take it as a sign and try to get rid of the stone with the EVOO and lemon juice treatment I've read about. I'm just a bit worried the stone may be too big for it to work! Anyway, I'll continue to post and update on how effective the vinegar has been.

I've been browsing through this site and have been amazed at the wealth of information here. I originally found it while looking for natural remedies. I have been been "not feeling well" for the last couple of weeks. I always have seasonal allergies issues but it got to the point that I had to go the ER because I could not swallow, was running a fever, dizziness and everything hurt. I was diagnoses with a sinus infection and tonsilitis and given a slew of medications. The next week I had a follow up exam with a doctor and was then diagnosed with a bladder infection. At the point of visiting the doctor, I had not had a bowel movement in 4 days when I usually have them at least once a day; as I was not eating a lot, I did not dwell on it. However, as I've taken the antibiotics, I've felt sicker and sicker - nausea, dizziness, upset stomach, basically the majority of listed side effects. BUT I've been having another "side effect" that was not listed and I've never had it before..... my stomach muscles start contracts so much that my body basically pulls/lunges forward and it feels like the upper ab area is swelling with air. It feels like I'm trying to do sit ups against my will. This happens either sitting or standing. It doesn't necessarily last for days, but once it starts, it continues until I go to bed that evening. It is also affecting what I eat because it is not allowing me to eat that much. Is this an additional side effect of the antibiotic? Has anyone else dealt with this? Any information provided is greatly appreciated.

I also am allergic to a few medicines. About 15 years ago I was given the medicine called Reglan. Not long after I took it my stomach started knotting up and cramping real bad. It did that for a whole day and went back to the Dr. and he said I was having an allergic reaction. I'm also allergic to Compensene, it caused my tongue to stick out and my throat to swell. So if you're allergic to one kind of medicine, you probably will be with another. It is important to get your bowells cleaned out as toxins can make you very sick. Hope you get better soon.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I think it could be that the antibiotics (or steroids or whatever) can damage the stomach and kill the good bacteria in it.

It can also cause leaky gut syndrome or candida. You have a damaged immune system and then all sorts can happen. I have started to take probiotics every day (it is cheaper to take a good tablet each day than take the yoghurt) plus OMEGA 3, plus kale, selenium, vitamin c, garlic and feverfew for my headaches which are caused by inflammation in my forehead I never got before! Doctors do not understand or even accept this.

Chicken and Meat With Hormones, Antibiotics

Hormones and Anti-biotics:

Recently my granddaughter saw her Pediatrician and was told to stop eating chicken, meats that contained hormones or anti-biotic to only buy natural (organic) chicken for she will go into puberty early. We have heard this from many parents and were told that's why girls and boys are maturing so fast. My question, if this happens to children what happens to adults that eat the same chicken. Does this speed up the aging process? Is this why many women are going into Menopause so early? What effect does hormones have on adults including men? My question on Anti-Biotic my daughter (31) was diagnosed with Lymphoma and is now in remission prior to her diagnoses she had taken a series of anti-biotic for something she did not have for 3 months. One month later she has lymphoma. My great niece (10 months) has lymphoma and was born with it. She has had a bone marrow transplant and is in remission and was told it could back in about 12 years. The cause was from her mother taking anti-biotic when she was pregnant. If we give chickens anti-biotic does this affect many cancers that people have? Has anyone done a study?

EC: Great questions, thank you Di. Let's get the conversation started on this new page!

I have not seen any study done on this.

However there is a lot of controversy over what antibiotics, hormones in meats, as well as growth hormone given to cows to increase milk production does to us. I have also read that exposure to opposite gender hormones in utero or infancy may be cause of homosexuality (one time), no further study.

There is a lot of controversy over whether antibiotics given to food chain animals cause allergic reactions to those eating the meat from these animals.

Personally, it seems that we should be more concerned with what the monosodium glutamate (MSG), aspartame and other toxins in food chain and water supply does to our brains and central nervous systems, as well as the effect it has on the entire body. If you are not familiar with the damage done by these toxins, type "excitotoxins" in your search window and educate yourself quickly before more damage is done to your system. Alzheimers Disease is hitting people in their 30's now, and those without a family history of Alzheimers. Search "Metabolic Syndrome X" to find out what it does to the body in general. You will find that the two major excitotoxins mentioned above cause our bodies to kick out excess insulin which is the beginning of Metabolic Syndrome X (called Insulin Resistance by orthodox medicine) which ends with Diabetes type 2 and all its end stage complications.

Have also read that early sexual development can be attributed to fluorescent lighting quite awhile back. If this is so what, is going to happen as we move more into fluorescent lighting to conserve energy?

Another problem with antibiotics and hormones that many people still don't know, is that antibiotics can cancel the efficacy of birth control pills, thereby causing an unwanted pregnancy. Fortunately, most pregnancies that occur while taking birth control pills, have chromosomal mutations that cause spontaneous early abortion.

I also recently read that when you see sodium benzoate (a very common preservative in our food chain, especially in all carbonated beverages, is converted into benzene by the addition of Vitamin C, and benzene is very toxic.

I saw the prescription name "Flagyl" and I had to say something about this medication. I had to take this antibiotic for a severe tooth infection and it wrecked my body. I only took a 10 day dose. Although I never had any numbness that I recall, I got oral thrush and felt like I had the flu everyday for about 3 months after taking it. I only started to feel better after taking natural remedies to clean out my liver and detox my body. It took months to recover from it. That was now a year ago and my energy level has never quite returned to normal. There are many horror stories online about this antibiotic - if you don't feel right taking it ditch it immediatley and ask for something else if you absolutely must be on antibiotics. I wish I had.

What did you take to flush out your liver?

Flagyl Side Effects

I was on long term use of Flagyl, initially for an infection, then for c-diff. I refuse to take any more antibiotics and will try some of the homeopathics I read about that were helpful to others. I do have one question. Has anyone experienced numbness of the feet, ankles, and fingers? I read it could be from long term use of Flagyl but can't seem to find out if it is temporary, long term (as in months) or permanent. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Flagyl is bad. It causes yeast infection. There is a product used in Nepal for diarrhea. It is used mostly by tourists to be protected. It is natural and it has been tested against many bacterias. Give it a try. Best regards.

Yes, I had a reaction to Flagyl as well... Numbness in legs, hands, face... Went to ER to get checked out for stroke since I knew strokes need immediate attention. CT scans showed all was normal, and I was diagnosed with a reaction to the Flagyl... Numbness was there for almost 3 months off and on. Seems to have stopped now, but microbiome has been affected severely for over a year now. Trying to rebuild microbiome and avoid antibiotics for sure!

WARNING!

Hello EarthClinic,

I am very very sorry to have to report this. About Nov, 2023 my son got a severe bacterial infection in his knee. The hospital gave him an antibiotic by the name of Levaquin. He had a severe reaction to this horrible drug.

He was angry, depressed, paranoid and suicidal. the drug did cure his infection but the side affects are too horrible. He off and on still gets the side affects. The worse thing is that there is no antidote for this medicine. I called poison control and the pharmacy at CVS. There is nothing they can do. I AM WARNING YOU NOT TO TAKE THIS DRUG. There are other antibiotics that work fine and do not cause you to almost lose your life.

God bless you all and take care.

Blessings,

Mary Martinez

Dear Mary,

I am so sorry to hear this. What a heartbreak for a mother.

Thank you for taking time to warn others.

Mary, they say there is not antidote; they mean there is no known one. No one could possibly rule out every possible remedy that could help.

He could try activated charcoal. It removes toxins from the body. 4 capsules twice a day, 2 hours away from any medication. I would give it at least a month.

Also, exercise will help your body release toxins through the skin. It is also a natural anti-depressant. Youtube has a million options for every level of experience.

If that is not an option, perhaps a sauna is? To sweat out the toxins?

My adult kids are all into cold showers and ice baths and polar plunges. They say it helps the immune system. I wouldn't be surprised if cold showers would help with toxicity and depression as well.

I hope you find something to help him. He is very blessed to have a caring mom.

Love,

~Mama to Many~

Dear Mama to Many,

You are an angel from heaven. You always have great advice thank God my son is still with me. At my age I am in my 70's now it was such a shock to me. I had to get the police involved. Found a wonderful psycologist that was willing to talk to him on the phone. God heard me because I thought my life was ending as well. Thank you so much Love this website!

God always bless you,

With love Mary Martinez

Hi Mary –

Here is an interesting website for those who were poisoned ("floxied") by fluoroquinolone drugs (like Cipro and Levaquin).

I believe these antibiotics (and the generic versions) now have black box warnings on them.

Floxie Hope poisoned by fluoroquinolone guide

https://floxiehope.com/floxie-hope-poisoned-by-fluoroquinolone-guide/

There are lots of recovery stories, resources, links, presentations, etc.

What works for one person may not work for another but there is a lot of information from real people who suffered the side effects of these drugs.

I wish you and your son the very best on the journey back to health.

Take care.

Hi Mary,

I thought I would try and give you some more hope for your son. I know well the fluoroquinolone medicines like Levaquin and Ciprofloxicin(aka Cipro). If you look at Levaquin and Cipro in Wikipedia you will see that they both contain at least one atom of Fluorine, which is a well known poison. Taking large amounts of flourine everyday in drug form will also completely wreck the body's thyroid gland. The flourine can also be stored in the thyroid, bidy tissues and bones. This will generate low thyroid or low iodine symptoms.

Low thyroid symptoms: low energy, fatigue, depression, brain fog, unable to think clearly, tired all the time, weight gain, sensitive to the the cold, dry skin and hair, muscle aches, digestive problems

So all we have to do is find some way of removing or replacing the fluorine currently in your son's body. And you should be able to remove the fluorine in his body over time by taking The Iodine Protocol -- the iodine will act to remove and replace the fluorine stored throughout your son's body. Iodine also removes heavy metals like cadmium, lead, mercury, aluminum and also helps to remove bromine from the body. This protocol will take some time to remove all the fluorine -- particularly the fluorine stored in the fat and stored in the bones. It may take up to a year to completely remove all the fluorine from your son's body.

Please also remember that Lugol's Iodine (or Iodoral) does many other beneficial things for the body. I remember when I first took high dose Lugol's Iodine(50mg per day) for my systemic candida problem, my brain fog completely cleared within a week. I could sleep without problems and think clearly again. I was much happier!

Please also be aware that it's very likely that your son will have a Herxheimer reaction when he first starts the protocol -- which is normal. If that's the case then please don't stop the iodine protocol -- just lower the dose for a while and then raise the dose again when he eventually comes out of it.

In the end, I decided that both Cipro and Levaquin are really just a glorified form of antibiotic chemotherapy. And what does the chemo do? Yes, it might kill bacteria, viruses and parasites but I've also read that fluorine can also cause human cell necrosis(cell death!) in your body tissues.

Another disturbing fact for you. Ciprofloxacin is on the WHO's List of Essential Medicines.

I've also read that there have been a huge number of complaints(think court cases!!) against the manufacturers of Ciprofloxacin and Levaquin such that the FDA is now "considering" withdrawing these two drugs as a recommended hospital drug. By the way, I read that 6 years ago ... 😖
