What Is Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome?

A disturbingly common health condition, Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) is a pelvic pain condition in men. Also known as prostatitis, the form associated with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome must be differentiated from bacterial prostatitis and acute bacterial prostatitis. This form is considered non-bacterial and cause by different factors than the other forms. By definition, CPPS is the swelling and inflammation of the prostate gland, the walnut-sized gland situated beneath the bladder in men. This gland is responsible for producing fluid or semen that nourishes and transports sperm. While the cause of inflammation in this area is often unidentified possible causes include an immune system disorder, a nervous system disorder, or an injury to the prostate or area of the prostate.

The symptoms presented by the disorder vary depending on the cause; however, many typical symptoms are common. Symptoms of prostatitis include pain or burning when urinating, difficulty urinating, frequent urination, urgent need to urinate, unusual pain the lower back and abdomen, discomfort in the area between the scrotum and rectum, soreness in the penis or testicles, as well as others. Symptoms associated with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome last for at least three months and comprise the majority of prostatitis cases.

Natural Remedies for Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome/Prostatitis

While symptoms of Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome often improve over time without treatment, natural treatment options offer potential for immediate relief and prevent recurrence of the condition. A regular regimen of detoxifying with diluted apple cider vinegar and baking soda helps flush the body of pain inducing toxins. Taking daily supplements including 5-HTP also helps relieve pain and discomfort in the affected area. Additionally maintaining a proper diet, reducing stress, exercising and practicing pelvic exercises to strengthen the muscles in the groin also relieve pain associated with the condition.

I have almost constant pain in the pelvic area. My physician had a sonogram done but could find nothing to cause it. I am also going to a holistic doctor who is working on it with chiropractic treatments - it gets better, but then kicks in again if I walk very much or eat sugary foods. I am 77 years old and weigh about 300 lbs., which I have weighed for about 40 years - the weight will not come off and stay off. I've been on so many diets that I had to have gallbladder surgery which I know was caused by the dieting. Other than that, I am in good health. But it is so painful to walk much and I need to move the body while I still can. Any ideas about an herbal treatment for this?

I also suffer from chronic pelvic pain. Pain medications no longer work. It doesn't matter if it is prescription or over-the-counter. Nothing works. The pain is intense, that at times, I have to get on all fours, rock back and forth, and breathe as if I am having a baby. I am just seeing that drinking diluted apple cider vinegar with baking soda helps with the pain. I am going to try it, and pray that it works.

Dear Sholanda,

I hope that the Apple Cider Vinegar worked for your pain!

Castor Oil Packs or Charcoal Poultices may be of help to you.

Cayenne Pepper, internally, may be helpful, too. 1/2 teaspoon in some juice. Repeat in an hour or two. It is very spicy and I drink it with a straw. I used this once to reduce heavy bleeding during a miscarriage and was surprised to find that it helped me greatly with the pain.

I hope you find something to help you soon.
