Effective Natural Remedies for Heart Attack Recovery

| Modified on Jan 07, 2024

When recovering from a heart attack, certain supplements can support heart health. However, it's essential to remember that these supplements should complement your diet and prescribed medications, not replace them. Always consult with your doctor or a healthcare professional to determine the right dosage and to ensure that these supplements do not interfere with your current medications.

1. Nattokinase

Nattokinase, an enzyme extracted from a Japanese soybean dish, has shown promise in supporting heart health, particularly after a heart attack. A significant recent study with 1,062 participants revealed that a high dose of Nattokinase (10,800 FU/day) effectively managed atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia, crucial factors in heart health. This high dosage improved lipid profiles and reduced carotid artery plaque size. Lower doses, such as 3,600 FU/day, were found to be ineffective. Additionally, Nattokinase was more beneficial in individuals with certain lifestyle factors and showed synergistic effects when used with vitamin K2 and aspirin.

Note: It's important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting Nattokinase, especially at high dosages, to ensure safety and compatibility with individual health conditions.

2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Essential for heart health, Omega-3s reduce inflammation and improve cardiovascular function. Found in fish oil, flaxseeds, and walnuts, the American Heart Association recommends 1 gram per day for those with heart disease.

3. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

This nutrient aids in energy production and provides antioxidant benefits, potentially improving heart function. Recommended dosages range from 100 to 300 mg per day.

4. Magnesium

Crucial for normal muscle and nerve function and heart rhythm. The general recommendation is around 400 mg per day for men and 300 mg per day for women.

5. L-Carnitine

Known for boosting metabolism and energy production in the heart, typical dosages range from 500 to 2,000 mg per day.

6. Hawthorn Berry

Used traditionally for heart health, it may improve circulation and lower blood pressure. Dosages typically range from 300 to 600 mg per day.

7. Garlic Extract

Garlic is known for its potential benefits in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which are important in heart health. Typically, garlic supplements are taken in dosages ranging from 600 to 1,200 mg daily, divided into multiple doses.

In conclusion, while natural supplements like Omega-3 fatty acids, CoQ10, Magnesium, L-Carnitine, Hawthorn Berry, Nattokinase, and Garlic Extract can be beneficial for heart attack recovery, their effectiveness varies based on dosage and individual health conditions. It's crucial to consult healthcare professionals before starting any new supplement, particularly at higher doses, to ensure they complement your health plan safely. These supplements should be viewed as part of a holistic approach to heart health, alongside prescribed medications and lifestyle modifications.

Just wanted to pass along some exciting results with apple cider vinegar! On June 16, 2006 my 40 year old husband suffered a heart attack and fell into a coma. He remains in a nursing home at this time with brain damage. He has a trach and a feeding tube. For the first 6 months he was back and forth between the hospital and nursing home about every 10 days. He would get pneumonia, MRSA, UTI's and numerous other infections. He was on the maximum antibiotics that Doctors could prescribe and I knew something had to change! In January 2007 I started adding a mixture of _____ apple cider vinegar, manuka honey & freshly minced garlic to his feeding tube (about 1/4 cup each day). Wow - the results were FANTASTIC! It has now been 5 months and he has been COMPLETELY infection free - no hospitalizations at all! His blood work and urine tests all come back with excellent results! I am thankful to God that he has supplied everything we need in nature to heal our bodies! I hope this info will be helpful to others as well. This is the recipe that I mix each week. One cup _____ apple cider vinegar, one cup manuka honey and 8 cloves minced garlic. Put all ingredients in a blender for one minute and store in a glass pitcher in the refrigerator. I give him 1/4 cup each day and flush with 2 oz. water. Please email me and I'll be glad to respond to any questions.

My loved one had a heart attack a little more than a month ago, LAD blockage, 2 stents. His echo showed about 35% function after that while in the hospital. Normal is 55%. An Indian suggested taking arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), capsules or powder, to strengthen heart muscles. His brother, when terminal at 5%, was able to increase function to 35%. So my loved one started arjuna, and 4 weeks later a new echo showed he was back to normal 55%, to the doctor's surprise. The left ventricle recovered. We believe it was the arjuna!

To stop a heart attack immediately, you have to have made a tincture of African bird peppers (350,000 heat units if you can find them) by taking a handful and blending it in a blender using wood alcohol as your liquid (vodka! ). Blend the peppers well, for a minute or more.

Put in mason jar, cover, and leave for 14 days. It is ready. When you have an attack, you put one full eye dropper full under the tongue and oh, it burns! But it stops the attack.

Keep a small bottle with an eye dropper in it so that someone else can get hold of it and give it to you if you have passed out. Carry one in your glove compartment.

Do not ever use wood alcohol. Vodka is NOT wood alcohol. Wood alcohol is poisonous and even small amounts cause permanent blindness by destroying the optic nerve. Many people have died from ingestion of wood alcohol, also known as Methanol and methyl alcohol. Vodka is ethyl alcohol.

I had a heart attack on 1/27/2008 in the early hours which is typical as is having a stroke or heart attack in cold climates more often. I woke up soaking wet with pain in my chest and left wrist, it didn't take long to realize what was going on. I got online and checked in here to see what other people did for a heart attack and found cayenne was the key.

So I took a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of room temp. Water (use warm water if you can) and around 5 minutes later I took it again. I then went and took a shower, got dressed and woke my wife up about 3 hours after I woke up. We then drove to the hospital where I got my only helicopter ride, they were acting like it was a big deal and time was of the essence but I felt otherwise. Anyway after a week in the hospital I realized I could of just stayed home. I had no surgery, no stents put in and am on no drugs for proffit. We take vitamins, fish oil, iodine/iodide, use full spectrum salt and eat organic whenever possible. I have never suffered from one episode of angina either. I also had low cholesteral which most heart attack victims have so DO NOT buy into you needing statins, they put me on them for three days till I got home and threw them in the trash. They will damage your body and not help you live one day longer.

God bless you all

This man speaks wisely. I have had two heart attacks and two heart surgeries, where five stents were placed in my heart.

Statins; carvedilol; effient; plavix and all prescription drugs are poison and will kill you quicker than taking nothing.

The best course is cayenne; garlic; apple cider vinegar--with the "mother" in it and aspirin. I have not yet tried hawthorn or ginger. I also stand on my head for ten minutes to flood the heart with blood and rest the heart muscle. it is a yoga posture which helps to combat many maladies.

Drinking cayenne tea is a torture and should only be resorted to when one is in the midst of a heart attack. I prefer to smother my food with cayenne powder, which over time becomes quite pleasurable.

I was on lisinopril and amlodipine as well, for over a year and found myself growing progressively weaker, with more angina, tightness in the chest and visible wasting away of the muscles--along with Parkinson-like tremors and countless other negative side effects, like confusion and fainting.

I was a vocational nurse for over eight years, working in major medical centers--over twenty years ago-- so I know enough about medicine to state here that one may have the best surgeon on the planet, but he can still not know the harm of prescribing statin drugs. The main drawback to statins is that they deplete the body's supply of Co Q10 and contribute to the wasting away of the muscles and nerves--including the heart muscle. All cardiac drugs cause the maladies they are ostensibly supposed to relieve. Taking them is a catch-22 situation.

I will not do the research for you; that is something you must do for yourself. Ultimately, the patient is responsible for his own health and well-being. This is something the physician fails to fathom.

Cayenne helps one to wean oneself slowly off of these poisonous medications. Do not stop their use suddenly--except statins--as that could trigger a heart attack, or other episode of distress. The best course is to slowly reduce the amount taken over a two week period. A straight edge razor blade serves to cut the pill down to a smaller dose.

Cardiac drugs are a vicious cycle which leads to death. It is okay to retain nitroglycerin for periodic chest pain, as one withdraws from these drugs. Dr. Mercola is on the net and he gives excellent advice regarding these matters.

I adore the cardiologist who saved my life, but he does not know the dangers of these drugs. I too, threw the statins in the trash and have NOT regretted my decision.

Glad what you are doing is working for you, and also letting us know more about statins. It is known that statins cause atrophy of muscles, including the heart muscle. So a bit of logic here goes a long way. Statins are extremely profitable for the industry and known to help only a very small percentage of males.

Are you still alive?

I am 56 and have never been hospitalized before. In early June 2023, I went to the ER with pain and numbness in my left arm that was not going away after a couple of hours.

They did an EKG and said I was having a massive heart attack (no other symptoms other than the arm pain, numbness and sudden fatigue.

I was wheeled into the cath lab where they said I had 100% blockage in my LAD (How was I able to walk into the hospital ER with 100% blockage). They found a second blockage in the LAD and stented both (I'm not sure how you can have 2 100% blockages in the same artery).

I spent the night in the ICU and was cleared the next morning to go down to the heart floor. However, there was no room so I spent another night in ICU. The next morning I was moved to the heart floor. I spent one more night there.

I have always refused statins, but I agreed to 40 mg of Atorvistatin. It wasn't long before I realized some of the negative side effects. Muscle pain, weakness, brain fog, back pain, awful smelling urine and weak flow, and occasional dizziness to the point I thought I was going to black out.

After a revisit to the cardiologist 4 months later, losing 55 lbs (I was 355 at the time of my HA), and everything looking great, I asked to lower the dosage. They refused, but ordered a lipid test.

I got the results back from the lipid test about 3 or 4 days later. My total cholesterol was 92, HDL 31 and LDL was 46.

At that moment I started splitting the statins in half, and taking 20mg. Within days the brain fog lifted, the dizziness was less, and the other symptoms reduced or gone.

Then I started just taking every day, and have not experienced any dizziness.

6 weeks after seeing the cardiologist last, I still have not heard back from them on the lipid results. I just decided I am going to have to be my own doctor. It is hard to split a capsule more than once without it disintegrating. I expect I will just quit before the end of the year.

I'm currently researching for a new cardiologist. One with a brain and open mind.

Get off the Statins… They are killing you.

Follow the cholesterol remedies here on EC and you will be successful.

I make a Herbal Tonic for my patients and can drop LDLs by 100 points in 3 months with no side effects except it tastes like smelly gym socks...lol

The Cholesterol Level Scam

Here are a few surprising facts about cholesterol:

  • Those with high cholesterol run the same risk of heart disease as people with low cholesterol.
  • The human body needs cholesterol to be healthy.
  • LDL and HDL are not types of cholesterol but lipoproteins that transport cholesterol through the bloodstream.

Here are some facts about statin drugs, often prescribed for lowering cholesterol.

  • Statins are prescribed with the promise of offsetting the risk of heart disease. In reality, they're HUGE moneymakers for the health industry. The top three most common are Lipitor, Crestor, and Zocor. Lipitor alone pulls in $8 billion a year.
  • One out of five people who take these drugs experiences their side effects.
  • The FDA has reported that statins raise blood pressure and cause memory loss. Yet they leave them on the market.
  • After a simple blood test reveals high cholesterol, millions of healthy people are put on statins to prevent heart attack or stroke—a practice called primary prevention—meaning there are millions taking a drug they don't need.
  • Statins block the creation of enzyme COQ10, which is an antioxidant found and needed in every cell of the body.

What's more, in a study, French women between 60 and 75 with cholesterol levels of 160 were 5 times more susceptible to heart disease versus women the same age with a cholesterol level of 260.

Back in the early 1980s, the normal range was 200-300 was considered safe. Today that number has dropped to below 200, I wonder why?

Here are some side effects of statin drugs:

Had 2 slight heart attacks age 28 and 32. Scary one at age 34. Always felt so frail, tho ok health but high stress work and poor diet-sooo much coffee. At 38 yrs was electrocuted by faulty computer eqpmt, lost left-side arm use 1 and half to 2 yrs. During that 1 and half, at about 1 yr, strain from the injury caused a 30-second stroke. I watch clock, fully mentally ok, but was physically immobile entire time, couldn't breath, no heartbeat, nothing. Then it just stopped. I was SO weak always from then on. 3 yrs later married, had child, was always terribly tired. Read in heart surgery book about cayenne being able to stop even a heart attack while in progress. I take a pinch (1/4 tsp) cayenne in 4oz water 2 times wkly. Feel better with 5 minutes - energy stamina breathing is easier, circulation feels ramped up to normal. Still tire, not not as without cayenne. Never regained full strength or mobility from electr. injury but dexterity in fingers did return. Strength is still 3lbs., Best, not nearly so drag-out tired. Cayenne is great - in tomato juice or water. Only a pinch is needed. In V8 or regular tomato juice, cayenne goes easy. I put cayenne on hard boiled eggs, hot flavor hides well in grape or orange juice too. Has improved my cholesterol too.

B4 i started drinking the cayenne pepper tea i could not walk a half a block. Now, i can walk for one mile and my leg does not hurt. I have had heart attack, two leg by-pass surgeries. My energy level is great and I just can't believe my leg does not hurt. I also went to the doctor after not taking my bp medicine for 5 days and drinking the tea 2-3 times a day. Usually if i go that long w/out my medicine, my bp is sky high. This time my bp was norman. I mean normal. I was amazed. I still take my fluid pill to release those fluids but I feel great. thx ever so much

For the past year, I have been suffering from severe headaches, my heart would beat extremely fast just from standing up, and dizziness. I knew that it was serious when my head was hurting so bad one day that I went to lie down and woke up almost 15 hours later. I found this website while looking for a cure for gout for someone else. I sent them the information and then began to read the other parts of this site. After my reading, I wrote out a list and I went to the health food store immediately after work. I have been taking the mixture of the water with ACV, liquid garlic, cayenne pepper and blackstrap molasses for a week now. For the first time in a year, I am feeling so much better. My heart rate has slowed. My headaches are gone. I am using the bathroom on a regular basis now and I am not sleepy all of the time. I am also taking multi-vitamins. Thank you for this wonderful website!

Hello John,

Look at the ingredients of any supplements you take. If any contain a calcium ingredient, (i.e., dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate, calcium ascorbate) or something processed from corn, (i.e., citric acid, citrate) I believe that could form the plaque in veins. No documented proof...just my heart experience. The "calcium" ingredients I Googled are reported to increase calcium in the blood. Magnesium can help dissolve calcium deposits in blood, kidneys and gallbladder.

It is still important to remember everyone eats and tolerates things differently. Combinations of ingredients vary and can vary responses. There is no one-size-fits-all.

To Jacqui;

Ginger juice method....

Yes, use a juicer. But the posts on EC have Ginger juice added to lemon juice, onion juice, garlic juice and cayenne pepper. At least that's one of the formulas. Supposedly that in a glass of water (say a tablespoon of each...with two tablets of the cayenne pepper)...helps open up blocked areas. I've never tried it; I have no blockages.

I've used NATURAL vitamin E... I take about 800 IUs daily with magnesium. Also arginine. I take 5000 mg of arginine.

HI U JACQUI, , , , , , , , , , , , , if you are in the shape you say you are, then you need to address your situation with a protocol that will immediately help you avoid surgery and that is not some long term juice. It's too late for that. Your best bet is to find a Natural-path, be it an MD or otherwise, that does EDTA IV Chelation. You can do two a week and within a few weeks you will not be well, but can avoid surgery. At two IV's a week you will be out of harms way and clean in 15 weeks.

The procedure will cost you about $3600 dollars total . I did this to avoid what you are experiencing, but in my three years doing this, I saw about 200 people in your predicament and a by-pass was only a band-aid.

They had to get the plaque cleaned out and change their lifestyle. I fear that you don't have the time to clean out your plaque with a lifestyle change. That is your call.

I wish you well.======ORH======

In January 2018, my husband had a major heart attack, following triple bypass, four weeks prior.

As he had been taking hawthorn berry tincture for several years, there was no heart damage. This herb protects it from the consequences of oxygen starvation. In his case, the triponin level rose to a disastrous 2,200, and the doctors were shocked at the absence of damage.

Two of the three grafts were 100% blocked with blood clots and the doctor said there was no proven way of dissolving them.

Our son told me to put him on cayenne pepper and that would certainly work. He was right! Within a month he was back to walking up steep hills with no problems at all. I grow the very hot peppers myself, so I know there is no mold in the powder when I blend it - and they are organic.

He has 1/4 tsp of powder in 1" of water in the middle of a meal. He was taking it three times a day but after twelve month, now only takes it once. I love God's pharmacy and all it provides. It definitely saved my husband's life.

Now I'm told I have a leaky valve (don't no which one) and I was told I was good because it's not worse than when I had my chf. All I'm doing is taking cinnamon and honey and herbs for my lungs- should I be doing something different now that I have a valve problem? Should I go back to using apply cider vinegar again? Oh I started taking cordyceps extract 2 months now. Help please! jean

Hi Jean, 1stly cut out all starches as they tend to make your body acidic. 2ndly start taking high dosages of digestive enzymes to get rid of inflammation, look up Dr William Wong for the digestive enzymes on the net.

Jean, to strengthen your heart take some CoQ10 w/ Vit-E and L-Carnitine. To repair the heart valve take Glucosamine Sulfate. Hope this helps.
