Hi Bill,

I can't thank you enough for getting rid of my excess phlegm.

A few month ago, I had a chest infection and had to take antibiotics for a week, it cleared up the infection but left me with a lot of phlegm that I could not get rid of, I tried everything on Earth Clinic, Hydrogen peroxide, Oregano Oil, Olive Leaf, Turmeric and nothing shifted it until I read your recent post on the Congestive Heart Failure page to ORH, and I tried your 1/2 Teaspoon of Sea Salt, it was amazing......

..."I'm sorry to hear about your oxygen predicament. A while ago I also had problems with gunk in my lungs. I just followed Ted's advice of taking 1/2 tspn Sea Salt every day. Worked like a charm. No more gunk in my lungs. Nada. Taking sea salt reduces all mucus in the lungs, nose etc. And it gives your body many essential trace minerals as well. I'm also aware that many are afraid to take salt -- even the good sea salt -- because they insist that it's bad for the heart. You know where I stand there. I've been taking sea salt for over 10 years and my heart is always 70/110. So if you've got a healthy kidney and healthy intestines, sea salt should be OK as far as I'm concerned."

Luckily I had some Sea Salt in the pantry and within an hour of taking it, my chest felt 50% better. I have now been taking it each day for 4 days and it has gone and I will keep taking it for another week to make sure it has completely gone.

A big Thank You to Bill and Earth Clinic.

I have a big problem with excess mucous and after checking this site would like to try ginger. All of the suggestions say to use ginger root but I'm wondering if it is okay to use the ginger powder instead as I have limited access to fresh ginger.

Debbi, when desperate fast, fast! It is great to have people to pray and fast for us, but if we know the Lord, He wants us to fast for our selves. It's ok to get someone to fast with you the more the better, but you fast too no matter what your problem is.

A couple of times my results were already in, the hospital called me in to confirm the results. When I got the call and letter, I shuttered, so I fasted and God turned the situation around even after the results were in.

On one occasion it was concerning a spot on my breast exam test results. While on my knees, I saw a plate filled with vegatables and heard the Lord say vegetables. So I went on a vegetable consecration.

I made a big pot of just vegetable soup. No meat, no tea, no coffiee, no soda. I continued with the vegatable soup breakfast, lunch and dinner and plenty of water, until my appointment day, which was at least a week away (really can remember, but it was more than a few days).

The new test came back clean, no spot. The doctor showed me the old results and the new, and shook his head, because he could not understand it, but I knew the Lord had cleansed me and healed me, because I followed His instructions.

I was able to return to my regular diet and the healing has remained, no more lumps. That was several years ago.

I found a cure for my excessive phlegm and mucus problem: Turmeric! It worked instantly for me so I hope this will help someone out there.

I have to say turmeric is one of the herbs that I dislike the most, I don't like the way it smells, tastes and it pretty much discolors everything. However, it's a miracle cure for many ailments.

Here's how I take turmeric:

Heat up 1/4 cup of water.
Add 1/2 teaspoon or more turmeric powder,
A few drops of coconut oil or any type of oil that you prefer
A pinch of cayenne pepper, skip it if not available.

The point is to dissolve the turmeric in the water, they say turmeric works best in oil or milk since I do not always have milk in the fridge so I always use oil. I found this basically out of desperation because prior to that, I tried everything: antibiotics, garlic, salt water, daikon radish...nothing helped.

I drank this turmeric mixture before bedtime and was able to sleep really well without having my nose and throat plugged up. I think ginger may work the same way since turmeric and ginger are in the same plant family.

If I have fresh ginger on hand, I would just basically chop it up real fine and take it with a big glass of water.

Three of the things I always have in my pantry: turmeric, ginger and garlic. I take garlic for cold and sinus, remmeber to buy fresh garlic grown in the US and not the cheap stuff from China.

I cannot emphasize enough that nature does provide almost every cure you need for most ailments, the only issue is whether you are aware of it or not.

I agree. Do a search for mucus reducing diets.

When I did this, links come up from Ayurveda sites. Not all of what follows is exactly Ayurvedic, but much is.

I learned

1) what foods to avoid

2) what foods were recommended to eat

3) Use Spices! Ginger, Tumeric, are examples. They are anti inflammatory and aid in digestion which is key!

4) I drink 8-16 oz. plain filtered water upon rising, then 10 oz. fresh raw lemon in warm water, then tumeric/ginger tea. You can find that recipe on line.

5) Eat plenty of steamed vegetables throughout the day.

6) very key is letting food digest between meals without snacking. Leave 3-4 hrs btwn breakfast and lunch, and leave 6 hrs btwn lunch and dinner.

7) Wait minimum of 3 hours after eating dinner before lying down! Sit up and read or watch tv, don't recline or put pressure on the belly either.

8) drink water 1 hour, or 30 minutes before a meal, then not again until 1.5 to 2 hrs after eating.

9) Don't eat recooked meats. From what I have read, the oils in the meat go rancid upon the second cooking, and the meats becomes hard to digest and thus inflammatory, causing mucus to form.

10) again, don't snack between meals. Let your meal digest, folks.

All these tips help reduce inflammation and thus mucus. Helps me immensely. Try it for two weeks, you'll be feeling the difference as I did.

Best of health to you all.

Probiotics

I've been reading the many posts about chronic mucus in the throat. I've been there - done that for many years. I've seen 4 different doctors without any positive results and tried MANY - MANY Rx's. I've been tested for allergies, asthma and GERD and I'm not a smoker. I not knocking the medical community but they seem to have tunnel vision when it comes to this condition. With the help of some on-line postings and some research, I've come upon some promising results.

Antibiotics seem to be a common denominator. When a doctor prescribes an antibiotic it kills all the bacteria [good and bad] in your system - this is good when you are ill since it eliminates what was making you ill. However the elimination of the good bacteria has consequences. [Please note that I'm not a medical professional so my descriptions/explanations may not be stated well but this is what I've pieced together with some research] There is a relationship in the body between mucus and good bacteria. If the good bacteria are not adequate, the body produces mucus as protection.

With my condition, I separated it to a mucus problem and a post-nasal drip problem. First the mucus - Probiotics are designed to replace the good bacteria. They are not new and have been around for a long time and there is a lot of information available on them - doing your own research is recommended. In my case, I've been prescribed antibiotics many times over the years but never replaced the good bacteria. So I started with a low dose of Probiotic and worked up. [I currently take 3 capsules 2X daily] This has reduced the mucus in my throat a lot - maybe 80% or more. [I'm reluctant to say that I'm cured]

Next the post-nasal drip. This is still a work in progress. Over-the-counter decongestants aren't a solution for me - Sudafed-like compounds mess with my blood pressure but I still use Flonase. So thanks to another on-line posting, I'm trying lemon water with cayenne pepper in it - not a lot of pepper but enough to give it a little warmth. [Yes, I know this sounds like a witch's brew but it's really not so bad] So far, so good! It seems to be working.

I hope this information works. Good luck.

LIZ, ORH here, and you are the beneficiary of advice that was given to me. With my ankles the size of elephants, I hesitated on salt, but you did not. You benefited, while I meditated. You the winner. Today, I did my ionic foot detox, sprayed down with MgCl and got in my near infrared Sauna. Nebulized my Glutathione and am getting by pretty good. OK, so here is what happened.

I had quite a few struggles with nagging mucus in my chest. I later found out it was due to my cpap machine and the water in it even though I was cleaning it with vinegar like I was told. So then I had to super clean it with soap and water then vinegar after and dry it completely after the hose is not easy to dry I had to push paper towels though with a long stick. problem solved. Not quite 1 1/2 months ago, I started another bout w/ mucus I tried all the over the counter junk and my doctor gave me a prescription. then I came to (EARTHCLINIC.COM) and read about what to do.

I went with acv and fresh ginger root 1 tsp of acv in a half cup water then chopping the ginger root small enough to take as pills 3 or 4 pieces drink it down with the acv mix. 1 hr later major relief I also have breathing problems from an accident (lung damage) so now doing this 3 days into it 0 mucus and my breathing has improved 100% and no drugs

Thank God. I so love this site it has helped me with so many issues I come here before I call my doctor for a lot of things Thank You E C.com.

Colloidal Silver

Hello TonyB

Re; Cough and Mucus from Respiratory...

You ask for other natural remedies since the ACV hasn't worked. Any time I experience chronic cough and mucus I know I have a bronchial infection. I use colloidal silver in a "steamer-inhaler" and breath deeply for three or four minutes three times daily. After three days of this I find the infection is stable and usually has stopped. After a few more days of using the steamer with CS, I find the infection is gone. For long running infections I drink two tablespoons on empty stomach three times daily for a few months to make sure any infection left in my body is gone. Oh, and I also give myself an "irrigation" in both sinuses and ear canals which combined gets to the Eustachian tubes. Don't be surprised if when giving the irrigation the sinuses will sting when you squirt the CS deep into the recesses of the sinus cavity. I find that sometimes a sinus or ear infection will be feeding the bronchial infection. For the irrigation I use an ear syringe. Far superior to a Netie Pot.

Chronic Cough and Excessive Mucus

Have you tried Stinging Nettle Leaf? It is considered a natural antihistamine. I take capsule form which really helps with post nasal drip or runny nose. A good brand is one by Wild Harvest. I always carry some in person because it's great for cold/allergy symptoms! I hope this helps you.

I would encourage you to read how to cure the common cold by Walter Last. In it, he explains how some mucus cannot go through the intestinal system and has to come up and out . I guess there is more than one type of mucus. This article I find very long with many links in it and informative. It's always good to have all the information when tackling health issues. Hi Cindy from WI -

This might be the post.

Here is a response from Bill (Philippines) to someone called Deb.

https://answers.earthclinic.com/help-needed-for-chronic-mucous-issue.html

  • Hi Deb... Regarding your excess phlegm symptoms, this can be reduced by taking 1/4 to 1/2 tspn Sea Salt in water twice a day outside mealtimes. Also, reducing all dairy in the diet will help to reduce your mucus. When I also had problems with phlegm, taking lugol's iodine orally helped tremendously to reduce my own phlegm build ups. Iodine is necessary and is used and secreted in every mucus gland in the human body and is used as a first line of defense against outside pathogens entering the body. Thus, with proper levels of iodine/iodide in the body, mucus will more fully help to defend your body and the mucus levels will also tend to reduce. A 2% lugols solution dosage that you need would be at least 8 drops (more if you can take it) in split dosages every day.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Tessa

Apple Cider Vinegar

Do not eat sugary foods or cold foods and beverages (ice cream would be the worst thing to eat). It will build up the phlegm. Dairy products, especially when eaten cold, will also build up the phlegm. Instead, eat meals that are hot, in temperature and in spice. Warm soups, stews, tea, baked vegetables and so on.

For your remedy, buy cinnamon (preferably ceylon cinnamon) powder, ginger powder or grated fresh ginger, black pepper powder, cardamom pods or powder (if available; but cinnamon, ginger and black pepper you should be able to get). Pour water into a boiling pot and add a big pinch of each of these spices into it, and boil for 10-15 minutes. You can use milk instead of water if you do not like the taste. Take this tea three times a day. Also, buy cayenne pepper tablets and take them or just make sure you eat something hot every day.

All of these mentioned spices are very warming, liquefy the mucous and remove obstructions in the respiratory channel. They improve blood circulation to the lungs. Cinnamon, particularly, expectorates mucus adhered to the bronchial tubes. The liquefying quality of cinnamon can be observed when you make a tea out of cinnamon powder and see that a thick, sluggish substance has formed at the bottom of the cup.

Prednisone suppresses the immune system and makes you more vulnerable to infections, and you wrote you developed a gum infection.

I hope you get better, I also used to struggle with mucus.

You loved WELL. I'm sorry about your loss of love and friendship and the sorrow you went through as the illness progressed.

May your days bring a songbird and a ray of golden warmth from heaven with drips of holy rain upon your brow and only the fondest of every memory you have stored.... Let them come.... Let them come... Yes today and tomorrow and the next. Bless Her Lord with the fragrance of Your Love and the atmosphere of heaven let it come... Let it come.... bless her today and tomorrow and the next.

An arrow from the quiver of the Lord , may it pierce your Sorrow with His JOY.

Stress produces fight or flight hormones to prepare the body for action... Stops digestion and slows urination.... Steals water, minerals , hormones and nutrients.

So first make an effort to drink two cups of water in the morning when you awake. Wait half hour and eat something with some vitamins minerals and omegas and sea salt to rehydrate and get those mucus secretions thinned back out. Try to keep hydrating> as you can and getting healthy food in your body.

Set out in the sun and get some vitamin D in your body. Open the window and get some fresh air. Buy a candle and some epson salt and spray your favorite perfume in the air in the bathroom , light the candle , put salts in the tub , put on music that fills your cup and , drink some extra water, eat an apple or fruit or berries in the tub.... Keep tissue near by and let yourself CRY. You are an amazing woman ... who loved her husband... Pat yourself on the back for being there for him and now TAKE CARE OF YOU. Take walks to get circulation going if you can. BREATHE

I had a mucus issue where I always felt a little congested. I'm a vegetarian and my ND had me cut out sugar, wheat, and dairy all of it. I also started a neti pot flushing my sinus with saline and three drops of iodine. Within a week my sinuses were totally clear no more congestion or mucus issue.

I give Ginger root grated, the real deal, a 5 star because it has almost cured my mucous in throat which I believe is from Silent Reflux. I grate 1/5 tsps of ginger I keep in the freezer and add boiling water, and blackstrap molasses (my choice of sweetner). Both ginger and Blackstrap Molasses have so many benefits for me.

Hi Jo,

I took 1/2 teaspoon of Sea Salt in a glass of water once a day, I just used tap water, and it worked within hours and I could feel my chest feeling better. I have now been taking it daily for a week and have now dropped the dosage to 1/4 teaspoon with water each day as my chest is clear of mucus now and just want to make sure it is all cleared up. It's good to hold a conversation now without coughing all the time when talking to someone, I work with the public all day and it was not very good to be talking to them and coughing, especially while COVID is going on.

I must thank Bill for solving my problem.

Please see my comment under the heading " Sea Salt in water for Mucus Conditions Caused Vomiting, I did not add anything to the 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt except 250mls of tap water and took it between meals, I gave it a stir to dissolve it, and that's all I did, hope it works for you as it did for me.

Hi Phyllis, I have used this remedy many times with great success. I use 1/2 teaspoon of Sea Salt and add to 1 cup (250ml ) of warm water, I make it warm enough to dissolve the crystals and not to hot to drink when crystals are dissolved, I stir up the crystal with a spoon to dissolve if I am in a hurry.

A word of warning, do not drink it straight down all at once as you will vomit, sip slowly over 5 to 10 min, I usually notice within 1 hour it has dried up most of the phlegm and I will take it up too 3 times a day if I have bronchitis, I usually take it between meals as it seems to work better rather than with meals.

Hello Brooke from Montgomery, Tx. who wrote: "I need help with excessive mucous.I have it in my nose and my lungs. It has been about 2 months and I am going crazy. ACV helps a little but it comes back. I will try potassium and see if that helps. If anyone else has any suggestions I would appreciate it."

Google "potassium iodide" and look through references until you find one mentioning Tahoma Clinic. Pull this one up to read Dr. Jonathan Wright's article about SSKI (saturated solution of potassium iodide).

Since it has many different uses (including one that Dr. Wright didn't mention of using 2 drops of SSKI or Lugol's solution daily to aid your stomach in producing hydrochloric acid to digest your food), I suggest that you print this article to keep on hand for ready reference. I found it to be quite useful in liquefying secretions in the lungs and head to aid in getting them out more easily.

Also, please remember to not dilute your Lugol's or SSKI in chlorinated water to avoid the chemical reaction converting your potassium iodide back into iodine!

I woke up choking, gasping for air, stumbled to the bathroom trying to clear the mucus clogging my lungs and sinuses. I knew I had to figure it out quick and do some bathroom chemistry. so I grabbed a cup and poured 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and added 1/3 apple cider vinegar and1/3 hot tap water.

I quickly started gargling the mixture and spit it out, it started cutting the phlegm immediately. I continued gargling, rinsing with another cup of water between.it seems to have a drawing effect pulling from the sinus and the lungs. This is hands down the best mucus busting gargle ever. It's cheap, fast and works. It has never not worked for the people I have recommended it to. I call it Larry's gargle.

I recently saw an article that EC published on sea salt and curing mucus but could never find the exact amounts of salt, water, lemon juice? It would be wonderful if posters would use the exact amounts of what helped them. You can spend hours on EC and still not find what you want. We all have horrible ailments or we would not be coming to EC and EC should checks these posts out as well. I've been coming to EC since 2012 for mites, pain in joints, vertrabraes gone and EC is wonderful offering us this site but PLEASE POSTERS, BE COMPLETE WHEN OFFERING YOUR INPUT!

Now because I am suffering from enough mucus for 3 people and was delighted to this post from Liz in Australia quoting Bill's comment on using sea salt but still no exact amounts of salt, water,?
