Plantar Fibroma and Plantar Fibromatosis Remedies

| Modified on Feb 25, 2024
Plantar Fibroma Remedies on Earth Clinic.

A plantar fibroma or fibromatosis is a disease of the fibrous tissue growing between your skin and the underlying fascia.

Natural treatment of plantar fibromas varies from stretching and physical therapy to supplemental therapy. Stretching prevents the buildup of fibers in the foot and lengthens the ones already present to eliminate fibromas.

Home remedies and supplements such as apple cider vinegar and nattokinase can help dissolve fibromas to treat the condition.

What is a Plantar Fibroma?

A plantar fibroma is a nodule or fibrous growth that typically appears in the arch of the foot. The knot is often embedded in the plantar fascia or the tissue band that extends from the heel to the toes along the bottom of the foot. Plantar fibromas are typically benign but may cause pain or discomfort. The exact cause of the condition is unknown.

Plantar Fibroma vs Fibromatosis

Whereas a plantar fibroma is a benign nodule that grows on the bottom of the foot, rapidly growing (aggressive) fibromas are considered plantar fibromatosis.

Natural Treatment of Tumors on the Foot

Eliminating tumors requires the natural dissolution of the growths via supplements and other therapies. Stretching is an effective treatment, as is physical therapy. Additionally, supplements, including apple cider vinegar, target the fibers of a plantar fibroma and naturally eliminate the growth.

Stretching

As a fibroma is the result of the buildup of tissue, stretching can effectively lengthen tissues to limit the condition's effects. Stretching also increases the circulation in the foot to facilitate sufficient cell growth and regulation.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a targeted treatment option that works on breaking down buildup of fibers and eliminating nodules. This therapy pairs active stretching with strength exercises to treat the condition and reduce buildup.

Supplements

Supplements and other natural products work to effectively dissolve nodules. Apple cider vinegar applied to the growth naturally breaks down growths and reverses the progression of the disorder. Cayenne and other anti-inflammatory substances can also offer relief and treatment.

Effective natural treatments work to eliminate the buildup of fibers and relieve pain associated with the condition. Continue reading below to learn which remedies have helped Earth Clinic readers the most with PF and let us know what worked for you.

I've been suffering for years with my plantar fibroma. Been to three doctors, had steriod injections, special insoles made, and considered removal with 2 months out of work. Then I tried the vinegar. I soaked my feet for 4 hours last night and today they're half the size. I bought the big container of apple cider vinegar (a gallon size) at Walmart for $5.00.

I applied the full strength raw ACV to my plantar fibroma overnight for 2 weeks, and it burned the skin as well as shrunk the mass. I will dilute it and continue until it's gone.

I have to say a great big thank you to everyone on here for their advice about putting ACV on their plantar fibroma. I've had to quit work because of fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Among other things these last six months, I've had the pleasure of watching these horrendous lumps growing on the bottom of both my feet called plantar fibroma. It was getting very painful 😢 to walk because of it and because of my other issues.

I put on the ACV last night on a paper towel and wrapped it in a plastic bag. I've already noticed a difference. I cant wait to see what doing this for a week will do. So God bless all of you for posting your results and sharing.

Plantar Fibroma:

ACV has helped me too! I now apply it every other night for about 3-4 hours.

Hi Marjorie,

I was wondering how the ACV treatment was doing for you? I just found this thread and started ACV last night, but I was wondering how long does it take for the pain to go away and curious to know if the fibroma nodule really shrinks in size from using ACV.

Thanks and good luck with your treatment!

Hi Marjorie, I was wondering how the treatment for the Plantar Fibroma is going. I am a bit scare to put ACV in the sole of my foot mainly because it feels that my fibroma is way inside my skin and do not see how can ACV can reach the fibroma underneath.

Anything that you put on your skin, is also underneath skin.

Dear Rosa,

You may be surprised at how well the apple cider vinegar absorbs into the skin. We have used it successfully topically many times.

You may wish to dilute the apple cider vinegar with water at first - using half water and half acv.

Hi Rosa Maria,

I just submitted an updated post about my experience. I did not have a "wart" after all. Scroll down after the photos.

I would try securing a garlic half/slice to that area under a band aid overnight. Then after a shower in the morning, dry it and apply another slice...as thick as you are able to walk on it.

Sealed under a band aid will allow the garlic to penetrate well.

I would like to know if anyone has experience with a cyst under foot (plantar area) just underneath a naevus skin. Naevus is normal, but cyst underneath still there, and not sure I can cure it with ACV, because of naevus. Does ACV application damage Naevus skin? or any other remedy? thanks

EC: For those unfamiliar with the word "Naevus", it's the Latin term for Birthmark. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevus

Hello Katy,

Are you sure it is a "cyst"? I wonder if slicing a garlic clove and using a waterproof bandage to seal it with on the area every day would help remove it.

ACV for Plantar Fibroma

ACV works very well. My doctor who has been treating my foot told me to keep using ACV because it shrinks the fibers on either end of the fibroma and the pain is almost gone. The steroid shot did nothing but cause me more pain. I'm using a plain ACV, not organic.

Ledderhose treated with ACV

Using ACV presently. Apply with a cotton ball in the morning and evening. Have to admit, using the ACV at this point hurts, but it sure is doing something. Had two. Using ACV, the first one disappeared within days. The second one, in the photo, was larger and from what I could tell, the size of a marble. It seems flat. Just not sure when to stop this treatment.....

This is what's going on in the photos.

Apple Cider Vinegar treatment for Plantar Fibroma

I have been using Apple Cider Vinegar for a week now - everyday. I soak a cotton ball and tape it on to the Fibroma. I leave it in place over night and then replace it in the morning.

At first it just peels. Then it gets darker. Then it turns black.

It's at the point that continuing gets pretty painful but, it is flatter!

I will now stop doing it for a few days so I'll be able to wear normal shoes for an upcoming event. Once that's over I will start up again.

Given that there just aren't that many options it's worth a try. Hope this helps somebody else dealing with Plantar Fibroma.

After using the garlic clove slice, the top part will become like a scab and can be picked off. I'm sorry I don't remember how long it took. After showering reapply the garlic slice and secure it with a band aid. The extra large band aids with adhesive on all four sides would seem to work the best. I didn't have those, I used regular band aids by making a cross to secure the garlic clove slice on the wart. Keep reapplying the garlic slice until it is not there anymore or you don't feel it. Wearing cotton socks is beneficial after the wart is gone because it is important to keep the area dry.

It should be noted a wart on my foot had been burned off about sixty years ago. I just assume wearing flip flops for a couple years during the summer in our garden allowed enough moisture to that area and I could feel the wart coming back. In fact, two seemed to appear side by side but there was no pain and they didn't appear to be warts but because of the area I'm sure that's what they were. The garlic slices worked.

Good luck and please keep us informed!

Dear Rhonda,

Well, I stand corrected. After looking up Plantar Fibroma...fibromatosis is what I must have had. This happened in the 50's and I believed what my mother told me. It was not a wart as it was a flat fibrous nodule that was embedded in my heel. It was so painful I remember I could not put my heel down to walk. That is why my mother took me to have it burned out and I remember having a hole there.

Anyway, what is happening now, when that area stays damp if I run around in flip flops, sometimes I will feel "something" in that area that indicates it may be coming back. I cut a garlic clove in half and secure it under a bandage for a few days. The areas I mentioned above are gone at this writing. There is no trace of anything in that area.

Our house is very damp so I keep shoes and cotton socks on most of the time.

I have fibromas on both feet. I am treating the most painful one as an experiment.

Application Method:

1- Went to the store to buy a breathable band-aid that encloses the area.

2 - took a piece of cotton ball and got it wet with ACV. Placed the cotton ball over the fibroma and enclosed the cotton ball with the band-aid

Applied the treatment after showering and before going to bed. Removed band-aid in the morning.

Results after 1st night:

1- Significant less pain when touching the Fibroma

2- very small area of skin on top of the fibroma was soft and able to peal off the dead skin.

- After the first night, it feels like it is healing. Will continue treatment for two more nights and report back when have a chance.

I've been using ACV for a week now just on the lump area; nothing happened for first three days, then skin around and in top of fibroma peeled off. When top of fibroma skin came off, left perfectly round hole. Next application of ACV made fibroma black underneath the skin.. Looks revolting, but something's definitely happening! Sting/burn too painful to reapply ACV so have applied solugel to give it a rest bc area was very inflamed & painful to walk on. Am waiting to see now. MRI shows nodule very deep, so I dont know if its just burned the top or is affecting the whole fibroma.

My 82 year old father used the apple cider vinegar method as described from Tassia (Berkley) for this and it has worked. He had it on both feet and on one it has almost gone to nothing, the other is slowly going down but was bigger to start with. He did over do it, and ended up with a burn from the acid, but once that healed has only done it at night and has been ok. He used organic and ordinary cider vinegar, and they both have worked. He now can walk without pain.

I read about using ACV on a plantar fibroma with great expectations. All I got was a red, sore burn mark near the fibroma. I soaked a cotton ball with ACV taped it over the spot with plastic and sock covering it. Leary to try it again - just made my foot peel since the area was wet. Any suggestions? Thank you!!

I got this thing called a Plantar Fibroma on the sole of my foot, suddenly, about 7 weeks ago. After I got the diagnosis a couple of weeks ago, I was trying out some ACV on my skin and it occurred to me that it would feel good on my feet -- and it did, it felt REALLY soothing and cooling, which seemed very good. By the next morning, the fibroma was almost gone. Here is what I did: I put a folded paper towel in a plastic bag (like a produce bag) and poured some ACV (that expensive, organic brand) onto that, then put my foot on the paper towel and tied the plastic bag onto my foot (I actually did both feet because it felt so good) and left them like that overnight. I kept doing this for about a week, and there is no sign now of a fibroma. Kind of amazing, as people have surgeries for this -- and then the fibromas come back anyway. I wonder if this would also help plantar fasciitis, as it seemed to soften and relax the entire fascia.

I am so excited to read about this treatment because I have been suffering with several fibromas on each foot. I am actually currently using ACV to spot-treat plantar warts on my feet. The ACV is causing the hardened skin around the wart, and the wart, to peel away, a very good thing. But I'm nervous about now applying ACV to the entire foot, including non-hardened skin... did you experience burning or extensive peeling at all? I was surprised that you said it felt good. Thanks for posting!

When I did the ACV treatment on my feet, I treated the entire sole of my foot (see my original post above) all night long for several days, and I had NO peeling or burning at all. Don't know why it would be different for others. I used brown organic apple cider vinegar, the kind with a "mother" in it, and the brand that is from an old-time health-food advocate. My sister has been putting it on a couple of warts on her fingers, taping a piece of ACV-soaked cotton on 24/7, and this method does appear to "burn" the wart off.

Planters Wart and Plantar Fasciitis are NOT the same as Plantar Fibromatosis (aka Ledderhose disease). The latter is not an inflammation or a fungus; it is the growth of a fibrous tumor (benign), is often familial (genetic - I.e. in the DNA [Tassia, take note re your sister]), and does not respond to topical creams or ACV. Luis, peeling away dead skin with ACV affects only the outer layer of skin and will not dissolve the internal tumor fibers. I've heard that some people have had success with radiotherapy under certain conditions. Unfortunately, when I got my first fibroma in the arch of my right foot in 1988, by doctor didn't tell me about the condition nor the risk of surgery. Sure enough, within a few months of surgery I had several more larger tumors on that foot; I've had two more surgeries on that foot, including a fasciectomy - but more tumors grew & are still there on the sides. Even as recently as 2005, having held off on surgery on my other foot as long as I could (the entire sole of that foot was one enormous tumor), I finally gave in and saw the doctor who offered no other alternative than surgery (including fasciectomy). A year after that, I have more tumors on the side of that foot. The doctor told me (after the fact) that a skin graft as final step in the surgery minimizes regrowth.

I also have Dupuytrens on both hands; only the contracture between base of my index finger and thumb on my right hand necessitated surgery - three years, and no proliferation of tumors in that spot!

My father & brother had Ledderhose (only one foot) and an aunt had Dupuytrens. If any of the men in my family had Peyronies, they weren't admitting it :-) ... Now my daughter has sprouted a fibroma on the arch of her left foot ...

I would like to know how ACV shrinks a tumor that is underneath the skin, without breaking the skin? I'm referring to lederhose disease, which I have. Which is a plantar fibroma. All you guys who managed to get rid of yours with ACV, did you also have the lederhose disease or dupuytrens diagnosis and still managed to rid of the lump? If yes, I am going to try. Looking forward to your answers

Plantar Fibroma:

I have had success using arnica. I use arnica cream rubbed deeply into the area and oral homeopathic arnica tabs dissolved under the tongue. Also freezing water in a small round cup and rolling the area intensively over it helps, then heat, rub arnica in intensely and keep up the oral administration of anica. Best of luck! ACV has also helped to alleviate symptoms of it as well and of my sciatica.

I have plantar fibromas also and have found that taking minerals such as Boron/Borax (use Mule Team for a natural source of Boron) and organic sulfur (MSM). Both are major detox minerals so read up on medicinal doses to determine what quantities are right for you.

Start slow and increase as you acclimatize. I take both at times and each has worked well in its own right but together they work wonders. I have managed to almost eliminate the pain and stop the lumps from growing larger. I am presently monitoring my progress and have noticed a slight reduction in their size.

I will have to keep you posted on further progress. I have gone from having much difficulty walking and excruciating pain when laying down to now functioning normally even with massive lumps in my insteps. Friends wonder how I walk and yet I do.

There is a great article you can google called ‘Borax The Cure For Arthritis! – The Borax Conspiracy – on YouTube'. This explains a lot and gave me hope to have my own body correct its imbalance and clear away the growths. It appears to be happening. Yippee!!

In my mind the body is misplacing its healing objective and needs to feed the parathyroid (the operations manager for the needs of the body) boron so it can correct its error. I adhere to the natural healing methodology where healing takes half the time it took to develop the issue.
