Razor Bump Remedies

| Modified on Aug 10, 2018

Razor bumps can be treated in a variety of ways including simple lifestyle changes as well as topical applications. Drinking more water, getting enough sleep and managing stress help eradicate skin reactions by eliminating toxins and boosting the body’s natural defenses. Topical applications also help to reduce swelling and relieve pain associated with the condition.

What are Razor Bumps?

Also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, razor bumps are a condition that presents as small, irritated bumps on the skin. These bumps generally develop after shaving and often occur as the result of individual hairs curling and growing back into the skin. These bumps frequently cause skin irritation, acne and scarring. While any individual may develop razor bumps, people with tightly coiled hair are most likely to develop the condition.

Natural Remedies for Razor Burn

Treating the burn and bumps associated with shaving takes a variety of forms. While discontinuing shaving for a time is ultimately the best option for treating razor bumps, other natural treatment options also offer relief. Aside from cleansing the system with water and supporting body with plenty of rest, natural supplements including ginger, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol also help treat the issue.

Ginger

Ginger is a common spice that is also regularly used in treating health conditions. Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory agent, so when it is applied to the skin, it relieves inflammation associated with razor bumps. The compound also softens the skin, minimizing the appearance of bumps.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When used as a skin toner, hydrogen peroxide eliminates toxins that may be contributing to razor bumps. The compound also helps relieve inflammation associated with the condition.

Rubbing Alcohol

Much like hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol is an effective antibacterial and anti-inflammatory option. Rubbing alcohol can also be used as a toner applied directly to the skin. This application relieves inflammation, removes toxins and even releases ingrown hairs.

Razor bumps are a frequently irritating and uncomfortable condition. With minimal treatment; however, the condition can be relieved and even prevented from reoccurring.

Are you using ginger tea for this, or are you just rubbing slices of ginger on the area?

There are number of simple steps to get rid of pimples quickly. These are generally some of the simple steps that may be followed regularly.

1. Apply ice towards the pimples few times a day. This will reduce the swelling and will try to make the pimple less noticeable.
2. Toothpaste can be applied to the pimple which again cuts down on swelling and helps you to remove the pimples the next morning.
3. Drink lots of water. This facilitates elimination of toxins from body.
4. Try in order to avoid junk food and also eatables containing excess sugar and vegetable oil.
5. Another method of getting rid of pimples is the use of garlic. Massage the garlic on your own face few times each day for about a week.
6. The best away to get rid of pimples is usually to eliminate stress. Once stress level decreases its easier to do away with pimples fast.
7. Regions which might be prone to pimples have to be washed with a cleanser at least twice a day.
8. Avoid oil based moisturizers and makeup.
9. Consult a dermatologist and get them for a pimple cream.
10. Sleep well at night as it strengthens the disease fighting capability to fight off bacteria and other infection.

After using Nair hair remover on my bikini area, I developed a HUGE disgusting "razor" bump in a very embarrassing place. I immediately went online to find out how to get rid of it and all sites said "leave it alone" That the ingrown hair will eventually force it's way out. So I did. And 2 days later it was even bigger and I could see that it was infected (was like big puss bubble. Yes - GROSS). So since I use Peroxide on everything else that ails me i said why not. I soaked a cotton ball in H2O2 and used a band aid to secure it in that spot overnight. By morning, that bump had shrunk to at least 3/4 of its original size and all that infection was out of it. Now all I have to do is fish the hair out, but the peroxide worked GREAT. I LOVE H2O2. I have also used it as a mouthwash for years. About 10 yrs ago my dentist prescibed an expensive mouth wash for me (Periodox) and seeing that H202 was the main ingredient, I started rinsing with Wal-Mart grade and saved myself $38.02 a month. My mouth is in excellent health and my dentist STILL doesn't know I dumped his expensive prescription years ago.

Peroxide I have not tried, but vinegar does work. It stings at first. Douching and bathing with apple cider vinegar helped, too. As does eating curry powder, probably from the turmeric.

Razor bumps is a condition Ive been battling for many years.

As many of you sufferers know this condition affects people with curly hair therefore more African origin man AND woman.

There are many chemical products promising to get rid of razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Since I've used most of the products in the market I can tell you some things.

1.Don't shave against the grain.

2. Exfoliate any ingrown hair using a brush, the kind you use for your nails, with warm water.

3.Use ony a 1blade razor no matter what the adds on tv say.

4. Don't use alcohol accent or mist refreshing products.

For me, I have both, razor bumps, caused by the tip of my hair curling back causing itching and redness in the adjacent skin. And I also get ingrown hairs. That's the hair growing inside for weeks. The other day I released a hair of 4cm long, it was amazing to see.

Ok, so after everything I've done to my skin, years of shaving improperly, with 4 blade razors, alcohol aftershaves etc I also have a permanent dark area in my neck. Even though some products help with imflammation, they don't help with redness or scar lightening.

The things I've found that work well are:

1.Urine.Yes if you are familiar with Urine therapy you wil know its a wonderful skin treatment.

2.Honey. Just take a little bit in your palm, add some water and massage it after shaving. It helps with the inflammation and lightens the skin.

3. And number 3 is the reason why I'm writing this. BLACK SEED. Also known as black cumin, nigella or Kawalnji. You can find the seeds in any Arab or Indian store.

I wasn't able to find the black seed oil, so what I did is boil seeds with water. I didn't give it too much time so it would not lose all the vitamins. The result was a brownish water. The moment I put it on my face felt so refreshing. I just let it sit and dry with air. It's been amazing my skin is soft and the dark area in my neck has improved a lot in just 2 times of use.

I have no itching, no bumps. You have to come very close to notice some. I have a few ingrown hairs in my neck that I will have to release with tweezers but for the rest it looks healthy and I can't beleive it.

The only bad side is, it leaves my skin a bit dry cause of the water. But that should not be the issue if you are able to find black seed oil. Anyway I prefer to have a little dry skin wihtout redness or bumps than oily moisturized skin with imperfections.

So this is my grain of salt. I'm light skinned with very curly hair, if it worked for me, it works for anybody. Try these 3 remedies and I hope you get rid of those bumps too!

It was a very hard condition to deal with psychologically for years till I ended up acepting there was no solution. When I was close to girls I was praying for them not to say anything about it. I was glad that I never have any acne so at first impression nobody noticed but still it made me feel insecure about my looks. So I pass this on to you. Thank you earth clinic for this amazing commercial free website. We love life, we love nature and we help each other. The whole world should be like EC!

I had this problem and a friend told me after you shave to wash the area with antibacterial soap (any type of antibacterial would work like coconut oil etc)... It is from the razor you use having bacteria on it... Once I started doing that it went away no more bumps or rash etc.

I find rubbing alcohol is great for razor burn/ingrown hairs. Apply with cotton pads after washing or shaving. It releases trapped hairs.

Shaving bumps can best be avoided by cleaning the razor blades with alcohol using cotton swabs or at least very hot water, soap, using an old toothbrush to clean out the debris which collects on the blades and between them.

It is this debris and old soap which provides the breeding ground for germs to proliferate.

Then when you save, the germs infect the skin which is abraded microscopically.

Try it, it works. I have suggested this to men who get bumps after shaving and their problem was solved by cleaning and drying their razors.

I thought I might have contracted a virus. I had pimples on the insides of my thighs after shaving. I heard that it's bad to use mineral oil on your skin, and since I've quit the pimples are gone and my skin looks much better. I also put white vinegar on my legs after shaving to prevent razor burn. Making smoothies with red beets has also improved my skin.
