Natural Approaches for Scabies: Exploring Effective Remedies

Diatomaceous cured my scabies : After being diagnosed w/scabies and given Permethrin, which made me very ill, I tried Neem,tea tree oil,kerocene! all kinds of things till I remembered I had Diatomaceous Earth DE fossil Shell Flour ( food grade ) in my house ,I used to use it on my cats for fleas until switching to a topical for less trouble.I decided to completely dust my enviroment and body w/ it to see if that worked! DE kills mites of all kinds by acting like ground glass inside them destroying their innards, but is safe to humans and pets, make sure you get the FOOD GRADE and not the one for pool filters which is dangerous! Get a large winter type sock with loose weave, fill it w/ the fossil flour and walk your house patting it, you will see it clouding and falling to the floor, use on furniture and any places you freguent often, like your PC. I dusted my comforter on both sides good, to keep from washing it all the time! Same for pillows although mine are in sealed garbage bags. Last try to keep yourself dusted from scalp to soles of feet for at least a week,a ll crawling sensations will disappear along with biting, from here on in I'm keeping my house dusted as the fine film blends in on carpet and furniture, in case of other types of mites. Neem is still a good shampoo additive, one dropper full to your handful of regular shampoo,well Good luck to all.

I am looking forward to trying this treatment. I've had scabies for almost a year, and my boyfriend has too. I didn't think is was going to be this tough to get rid of. I lost custody of my son to my ex due to this and lost all visitation until it goes away. I have done the Permethrin treatments and it did nothing but make them populate more, I think they like it. This "simple" problem has ruined the last year of my life. I am for sure trying this. I will post to tell if it worked. I pray it works...

I have had scabies for about a year and tried the antibacterial soap route and it doesn't work. At least not for me. These are feisty little creatures we are dealing with and as we know the Permethrin cream doesn't work.

Scabies cure: Keep keyboard & kitchen area mist sprayed with 91% alcohol or white vinegar. Mist spray tub & shower after each use with diluted clorax half & half. Put all clothing & bedding in twist tie garbage bags till washed,dry all materials BONE dry on high daily. Sprinkle furniture & carpet lightly with 20 mule team borax ( use seasoning bottle with holes ). Plastic cover mattress, spray with diluted clorax wipe dry in 1/2 hour. For cold water wash use Washing Soda 1/4 cup ( handle with care read label ) mixed with 1/4 cup borax plus regular detergent etc.

Smear from head to soles of feet with Petroleum Jelly avoid eyes, nose, mouth, after about 1-2 hours, will start to itch intensely, they're suffocating, this lasts about 2 hours. In morning shower good any bite feeling you have dab w/PJ,within about 6 hours biting should be all gone, slight post itch is commom though, continue spraying etc for 4-5 days, bless you and good luck

Vinegar half & half water all over your body, note you will experience some sensitivity on skin, after rinse with vinegar, do a Peppermint Soap, like Dr. Woods, with anything else in the Soap is fine, an exfoliating soap also does the trick!, then put baby oil with Lavender all over your skin, everyday! Vinegar can also be used in laundering with hot water & ammonia mixed in... that will do, steam all your rugs, curtains, bed, pillows, then put plastic on the mattresses & pillows, then place your bed linen over, or the memory foam beds are totally resistant to all mites... trust me this will help, & eventually make your life free of those horrid creatures! petroleum jelly applied to scabies when it first pops out, and covered tightly with tape (like electric tape)- makes the site disappear- but does not prevent new ones from popping up.

I got scabies once in high school. I went over to a friend's house, and they had it all over, pets, and people. What I did was cover my skin with a thick oil. The type I can't remember now. I then covered the area with plastic wrap. I left this on for two days. I reapplied oil when it soaked in and added new wrap when the other got all messed up. It went away.

About scabies.....

HMMMM.....very nasty, indeed...huge, nasty sores and red bumps from my shoulders to my forearms I got this as an early Christmas present from one of my second grade students about 4 weeks ago.

Initially, my doctor misdiagnosed this condition as "stress" and I used every over-the-counter itch cream available. About 2 weeks ago my doctor decided to treat my condition as scabies. I used the Permethrin Cream 5% twice, then when I kept getting new spots at my hairline and on my torso she prescribed Lindane Lotion. Fortunately, I looked on-line before having the prescription filled. I found out that Lindane can cause seizures, convulsions, and death. It is recommended that Lindane Lotion NOT be used if one has open sores or has used some other scabies medication; both of which I had or had used.
I was surprised my doctor didn't know this.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow and this morning I tried the Borax/Peroxide soak. My question is: Do you rinse your body with plain water after soaking and do you soak your scalp when you are using this method? I have very fair skin and I already feel as though I look like an alien from SCI-FI channel, so I'm just wondering what to do next? I should also mention that my hair is falling out in handfuls as of 1 and 1/2 weeks ago? Nice....

The only thing I found so far that stops the itching is Patron with three limes, chilled over ice, and sipped slowly. This remedy cannot be used in a school setting.

I think that I have had scabies for years now. I start breaking out in the spring, by August, I am in bed. I have seen 6 different doc's. I even had a BIOPSY of one of the swollen lesions, I told the doc to take a "ripe" one-lol. For years it very nearly drove me insane. This year I realised that it is scabies. In my research over the years, I think perhaps I didn't want it to be a living parasite. I found this site by chance.
6 days ago, I used permethrin all over as directed.

Someone on this site mentioned hand sanitizer. And I believe it has done as much to drive the bastards out of my skin as anything else. But, it can be quite painful as it is simply jellied alcohol. My question is can these creatures hibernate for years? And, I thank God for this site. Medical doc's are slaves to the pharmeceutical companies. We need to learn to take care of ourselves, as best we can in this time of worldwide chemical pollution.

Can you get scabies on your head and face area? I have been fighting these "things" for almost 3 months. At first itching, then white type if burrowong mite.I have black specks and white substance that keep appearing. And of coarse the itching is intense. Went through 2 rounds of the Rx creams and the oral Ivermectin. All the doctor's I have seen say they are gone. I'm not so sure. How long will I itch? I am using tee tree oil. It seems to help with healing the open wounds with secondary infection. Do you think this sounds like something other than scabies? I drench myself in oil every day. Seems to draw them out. Any suggestions? I am desperate.

I had two outbreaks of either a scabies mite attack or bird mite attack, but the doctor seems unable to conclusively diagnose me even after a skin biopsy and blood tests. By getting my house sprayed twice by an exterminator, cleaning the house more frequently and washing linens every day using Borax, and buying a new mattress, I have not had a third outbreak (yet). But I still have the itchy crawlies. So I am not sure if the mites are gone and that's just residual skin senstivity, or if I still have mites? If they are not biting...I hope that means they are gone.

I have isolated myself (and live alone) for the last 2 months. But my niece needs me to babysit while she goes through surgery. I am afraid I will pass whatever I have on to the baby if I still have mites.

I just want to remind you guys that be careful with online products for curing scabies. and most important thing is that you should see a dermatologist and get an accurate diagnosis first. All my family members were treated with permethrine 5% twice within 10 days according to a diagnosis by a nursepractitioner. But we have more rashes. actually only myself has a few rashes before treatment with the toxic medication...But finally we found out that the rashes were allergic reaction to the medication. But we did not know and freaked out and thought we have more scabies, so we desperately searched online and bought "AllStop" for scabies on line. This product is so irritating that we all devloped rashes all over. So we went to see dermatologists and they all told us that it is allergic reaction. And they do not think we have scabies, they said we don't have any tracks!

I tried ___ bodywash, an antibacterial soap. It helps with any skin condition like scabies, acne, any sores that spread on body. I am unsure what I have but resembles scabies & sores people get with fibromyalgia that sometimes itch & burn & spread. What antibacterial ___ does (may be other soaps as well like safeguard my mom says helped for shingles) is peels off the swelling/sores & they are gone. Unfortunately they will come back if you dont treat with a chemical free remedy. U can do a google search to find out where to buy an inexpensive cure.

For the person being plagued by SCABIES - I had something like scabies (never did figure out exactly what, the doctor was useless on this). I can suggest a few things that worked for me. Get some green plastic garbage bags and white plastic garbage bags. The clothing that comes off of your body goes directly into the green garbage bag to be washed after one wearing, likewise your towel after one use. Store clean clothing out of the dryer in the white garbage bags until you put them on. Keep the bags sealed and separated. Wash your body and hair with Meat Tenderizer mixed in your water and shampoo (you can just mix in your hand before soaping up). Get the unseasoned meat tenderizer so you don't end up smelling like garlic. The papain in the meat tenderizer dissolves the exoskeleton of the bugs and they die. This also works for fleas for animals. Rinse thoroughly - it will leave your skin and hair nice and soft. You can get a large (almost 3 pound) dispenser of tenderizer online for around 20 bucks from Spice Place. Cheaper on the whole than small containers from the grocery store. Also change sheets and pillow cases every night. Wash clothes and linens in hot water and 1/2 cup bleach. Borax is also good - 1/2 cup for each load. Vacuum carpets and mattresses like crazy. Put your pillow through a hot dryer cycle. And this is very important - you need to change the internal terrain of your body, then parasites will not be attracted to you. Stop eating all forms of sugar and refined products, msg, artificial sweeteners and all junk food. Take a high potency multi and B vitamin complex. Drink hot water and lemon juice first thing every morning and a few more times during the day and before bed. Eat fresh food - lots of veggies. Coconut oil is also a great remedy for scabies. You can coat your skin before bed, even massage into your hair at night and shampoo in the morning. You'll be healthier in the long run and parasites will completely lose interest in you. Read the posts here on coconut oil - it seems like there are posts regarding scabies.

My name is Sarah.. and i have had Scabies for about a year now and i CANT seem to find a way to cure it. I just got back from my second day of high school and my last period is Gym! Today we had gym outside and it was about 28 degree's celcius! of course i am wearing pants because i am way to emparessed to show my legs or any other part of my body! So i change in the washroom! When i got home i was INSANLEY ITCHY! I am fed up with being itchy and i am in DESPERATE need of a good effective cure! People please reply because have also been diagnosed with depression and will not do very good if i do not get a CURE SOON!!! My mom has agreed to let me try the borak and peroxcide.. so PLEASE PRAY THAT IT WORKS.. BECAUSE I PREY EVERY NIGHT AND I GUESS I JUST NEED MORE PRAYER STRENGTH!! PLEASE HELP ME THROUGH THIS!! My wife and I have scabies. Hers is worse than mine but I have had mine much longer - 3 years this month. She's only had hers for 2 months. I enjoy your site and have tried some of the remedies listed there with the following results: Borax and Hydrogen Peroxide Soak - no help. Oregano oil and Liquid Soap - no help. Peppermint Soap - no help. Will try Pokeweed root tonight and let you know if that helps. All of the remedies tried made us feel really clean when we used them, but the scabies and itching live on. The doctors can't help us so we are counting on a natural solution to our problem. Thank you for your web site and for all the people who have contributed.

Reponse to Nancy: Hydrogen Peroxide is a TOPICAL (to be used on the skin) antiseptic. You can use a diluted solution of it to rinse your MOUTH. You shouldn't have gotten a chemical burn from it. Perhaps you are allergic or hypersensitive or perhaps it was something else.

WARNING!

Do NOT try this treatment! I did and ended up with bad chemical burns on my arms from the hydrogen peroxide! I do not know at this point whether I will be permanently scarred by these burns as they are still very bad over a week after trying this approach.

Peppermint soap (Dr. Bronner's) works great to get rid of scabies. I tried Tea Tree oil among other things and nothing else worked, except hand sanitizer gel. But at the first sign of itchiness, I get out the peppermint soap.

Tea Tree oil, after a bath of baking soda, cured my scabies. The prescription my doctor gave me made my scabies a lot worse so I decided to stop using it. The scabies burrows stung and itched so badly, so after taking a bath I applied tea tree oil on 5 cotton balls and whiped my body down. The itching is gone and my scabs are clean and no longer bleeding from all the previous scratching.

Hello. I came upon this site hoping to find some more remedies for scabies, particularly an oral treatment. I've read through the various replies, and it looks as though some of the commenters do not have scabies, because animals cannot carry the parasite (from the numerous articles I've read anyway). Anyway, I've had them for a few years, and mostly used the lice poison found at the supermarket. It helped somewhat, but it's poison! So I looked and found a product called Lice R Gone that worked. It's an natural enzyme that eats away at their exo-skeleton. The only problem I am having is that I have them on my foot, and it's a bit difficult to get through some of the tough skin, and even one small missed are will cause an outbreak eventually. It was cheap, it smelled pleasant, and very effective. Once my foot is cleared up, I'm done! Hope you all find relief!

Hi Steve- I have had your problem before & know how intense the itching can be. I don't know the topography where you are, but if you know what poke sallet (also known as pokeweed) is, the root of this plant is boiled in water, cooled enough to apply to the affected areas for scabies. At the times I had the problem I didn't know this, so have not tried it personally. I have eaten poke sallet and have taken poke berries for arthritis problems, so I can tell you that the plant is not likely to kill you. My next younger brother (now 72 years young) did tell me about his grown daughter came to him with the same problem of scabies, asking him what to do. Since I had told him about using the root for this purpose, he dug up a root, cleaned it, boiled it and gave her the water it was boiled in to lavishly apply it to the affected areas. He laughed as he told me about how it worked. She told him that "it set me on fire" but got rid of the scabies in one application.
