Natural Remedies for Thin Skin

| Modified on Aug 30, 2015
Thin skin is normally associated with aging, but many people who spend a lot of time in the sun eventually develop thin skin.  The use of blood thinners (such as aspirin, Plavix or Coumadin) or prednisone exacerbates thin skin problems.  Some medical conditions are related to thin skin, including Ehlers-Danios syndrome, amyloidosis and Cushing syndrome.  There may also be a genetic link.

Natural treatments for thin skin

  • Drink plenty of water; this is a must!
  • Minimize further skin damage by protecting the skin from the sun.  Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, broad-brimmed hats and sunscreen.
  • Strengthen weak skin with fish oil, flax or borage seed oil.  These are known to strengthen collagen in the skin as well as to improve skin hydration.
  • COQ10 body lotion is reported to work well for the bruising associated with thin skin.
  • Moisturizing serums are absorbed easier by the skin than lotions.  The serums also work faster on thin skin, which is very poorly hydrated.  Look for those containing zinc, Vitamin C and collagen.

Hello Earth Clinic community!

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck, or knows of any help with thin skin under your eyes? My skin looks very good. In fact most people think I am younger than my age. Except... Under my eyes is thin. I can apply makeup, but because it is more sunken in, when I do I would have to fill in the gap really to get it to match the top of my cheeks (where they meet). I don't have bags under my eyes, they aren't blue or dark, it's just thin. I know there are cosmetic "fillers" for this, but I would really like to try the natural route if possible. Anyone with suggestions, please feel free to post!

Thanks guys!! Lisa

Dear Lisa,

My first thought is castor oil. Try a little under each eye at bedtime, apply gently. I use it every night on my face. I like it a lot!
