DMSO in Coconut Oil Topically Applied to Swollen Thyroid - Walnut Oil Optional

I cannot find any precedent for topical DMSO on a slightly swollen thyroid gland. I have what I suspect is self-limiting, sub acute thyroiditis with some now visible swelling of the thyroid on one side, preceded by two months of a roller coaster ride from hell of rapid heart rater, insomnia, loss of appetite, tremors....all the "too much thyroid production is going on" and this high octane misery is running though you system, symptoms.

I have no insurance and have not been able to get to an endocrinologist at all.

No one will help me, so I'll have to help myself. First, I've taken all recommended supplements: selenium, rhodiola, motherwort, molybdenum, black seed oil, etc. Most things help somewhat or for a while, but the terrible hyper heart racing and all persist.

So I got to thinking...I am very familiar with DMSO. Basically, getting sulfur (the /S/ in DMSO) into the cells anywhere is like a tonic to them and with this help, they may well return to their optimal functioning. And coconut oil is recommended for hyperthyroid conditions, be they self-limiting as I hope this current thyroiditis is, or more long-standing such as Grave's Disease. Walnut oil, topically applied, is part of the traditional Ayurvedic treatment for thyroid.

I have had no pain and no visible swelling of the thyroid, but I can now feel the swollen area. I have been applying walnut oil, nightly since I suspected this was a hyper thyroid issue of some sort (two months + ago). Once I applied the DMSO and coconut today, I can feel the gland "tingling" ever so slightly - almost imperceptibly. Is this good? I have the feeling that it is. I'm going to continue with this experiment upon myself because, really, I have no access to modern healthcare approaches to my condition and they all seem to be subpar ones at best, anyway.

I will update this post with results. I am going to proceed with a single, daily application until symptoms (hopefully) improve. That will mean:

- no more "hyper" symptoms

- swelling has gone down to nothing

There is also a tradition of taking pure walnut oil, 1 teaspoon, 3x a day, an hour before meals. I may try this as well.

In before it's asked: "How much coconut oil and DMSO?" About 1/3 cup coconut oil and 10 drops of the purest, glass-bottled, food-grade DMSO

Ha, I just read this while looking for low thyroid suggestions. I said I would update and apparently forgot for several years...probably my low thyroid. :-) Well, what I'm doing now is Armour thyroid which seems to have no side effects. Yay! But, my doctor started me on only 15 mgs, she's cautious, and is gradually increasing the amount. I'm up to 45 and still have to keep the kitchen at 75 degrees, and often have cold hands. However, I read online in more than one place that we can take Armour under the tongue so it bypasses the stomach. I've been doing it that way, and we'll see. I tried calling the Armour company about doing their thyroid sublingually, but they didn't know. The lady said I'd have to ask my doctor...who's really a nurse practitioner which I have come to prefer. One more thing, I now have pancreatic insufficiency which can be caused by low thyroid! So, I'm getting serious about taking my thyroid supplements, bladderwrack, guggul, tyrosine, etc.

Please fix your gut. I have had Hashimotos for 20 years and only recently discovered Garden of Life HSO Probioics in supplement form to repair my guy. I also QUIT sugar, dairy and gluten just to give my gut a break. I can tell you after 2 months the difference is absolutely amazing. I could sit here and type paragraph after paragraph of ailments I have had and improvements that I now have from changing what I have and adding that probiotic. I am also taking Garden of Life RAW one a day vitamin, 15K Vitamin D3 per day, ZINC, Iodine, selenium, 30 mg of Melatonin per night before bed, I take a few others but I 100 percent believe these have made me feel more alive. I have my follow up next month to test my thyroid and antibodies.

There's really no research to back up Goitrogenic vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage Green leafy vegetables: kale, mustard and spinach) being bad for someone with Hypothyroidism. Especially if they are cooked. Also, we should be VERY careful with Iodine unless we are deficient. There is a TON of good research out here now. The antiinflammatory Autoimmune Diet ( AIP) is a great place to start the healing.

halides might be your key. Let us say you shower before you use iodine, well the iodine port will accept chlorine(water in shower) and get plugged before you put iodine in your body for the thyroid to use. A battle I am well aware of.

Thyroid Problems Linked to Halide Exposure The halides chlorine, bromine, and fluoride all compete with iodine for uptake into your thyroid. Over exposure to these toxic elements is linked to an increased risk for hypothyroidism, but also to thyroid cancers. Avoidance of excessive exposure to halides is recommended to maximize thyroid function.

Hi, I've been having issues with my thyroid. I had a partial thyroidectomy in December, (they also found cancer but they got it all) I have tested positive for antibodies for both Graves and Hashimotos. Months later I'm still hyperthyroid. I also now have a nodule on my remaining side. What are some holistic ways to treat this situation? I eat organic and exercise regularly. I'm not willing to take medications. Your comment suggests that hypo/low thyroid is equivalent to Hashimoto's ... but ... it is not. Also, while it is an autoimmune disorder that can *cause* hypothyroidism, it is *not* the only cause. (For example, I have hypothyroidism that was caused by medication that is known to cause it.)

Avoid Raw Spinach

I chose to eat raw spinach as my leafy green and did so daily to the tune of 1 pound a week over a year. I had been warned about effects of oxalic acid causing stones but I didn't think I was overeating it. Over time I became less focused, irritable and finally fatigued, a feeling I had never experienced!

I tested for my thyroid markers and and they were through the roof! I immediately stopped the spinach and gradually normalized! Anecdotally, when I ate katuk, I experienced insomnia! Then, raw parsely and cilantro caused my skin to itch! Back to romaine lettuce for me. (Sauropus androgynus, also known as katuk, star gooseberry, or sweet leaf, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable.)

Hi Becky, I am not sure what high thyroid antibodies are, but I had hypothyroid/low thyroid. I believe I fluctuate between low and high at times, but no bloodwork to show a high count. I use most days, 1 tbsp of coconut oil, and maybe a total of 1/4 maybe a bit more, of Sea salt. Some days I may overdue the sea salt, but not often. The coconut oil I will also use to spread on sandwich if I have one, or english muffin. But as I said, most days I just do a tbsp in the a.m. I hope this doesn't gross you out, but I just warm mine in a glass dish with cover, and put it in hot water til it melts, then I just drink it down. It does not taste awful imo. You can use it as you wish, but I feel just using it in things takes away the potency, just my opinion on that. Let me know how you do. Also remember, it was about a month to two months before I got my second bloodwork-up. I had stopped the synthroid the doc recommended after 2 weeks, and started the coconut oil. I do use other supplements, and nutrition things so I will give you the list if you like. Let me know if you need further info. Glad to help if I can.

I am so excited this a.m. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid on Sept. 5,2018. I was prescribed synthroid, and took it for 2 weeks, then stopped as I was feeling awful, worse than when I was diagnosed. I found Earthclinic and read about natural ways to try to even out my numbers. I got onto Coconut Oil for it's iodine, and also started using salt again, but SeaSalt only, and just about one 8th of tsp a day.

I know many of my foods Id added to my diet had iodine as well, so I didnt want to get too much. Easy does it I kept remembering. I got my new, thyroid bloodwork back this a.m. and I'd like to share the pics so I'll try to do that. The first is the before numbers, and the second is the "after". I'm so thrilled and I hope others will try this.

Also, getting one's thyroid in good shape helps and eating a good nutritional diet. I'm still working on the good nutritional diet. I have always been a junk food junkie. Hope this helps.

Eat beets.. search for gallbladder attacks there's a diet and also products that you can use to dislodging gallbladder stones also melt them as well other approaches for making your gv healthy thus your thyroid will be well specially it is hypothyroidism

Needless to say, gall bladder went into spasms off / on for 2 more months and the test they did at hospital showed gallbladder not functioning properly. The spasms were so painful, I agreed to have it taken out. I so wish I knew how bad that is on / for your body!! I too have had thyroid issues. Before I share my own experience I have a question regarding going off the bio-identical hormone. You mentioned your body had been low on female hormones, adding to the thyroid issue, but then you went off of them. Are you not taking any female hormones? If so, what are you doing to address the issue of low hormones in your body?

I was diagnosed 10 years ago with an auto-immune issue. Dr's said that my own body was attacking my hearing and my thyroid. However doctors did not agree regarding hypo or hyper. The research doctor at UCSF thought the opposite of the specialist here in Fresno, CA. UCSF doctor read "in-between" the lines in the reports, after much blood work. Bottom line is, neither helped me. I couldn't stay on the medications I was given. Stomach issues, hair falling out--and didn't help. I had been on 60 mg of Prednisone for my hearing issue for 6 months. (Hearing levels went down along with all sounds distorted). Doctor tried to wean me after 30 days and hearing issue came back, so just kept me on it, while it was causing harm to my body. After 6 mos I weaned myself from the Prednisone and until last August had no more issue with my hearing. Tried Prednisone again for 30 days, tired off but didn't help. Lots of prayer and trusting in my Savior and Creator to heal my hearing, along with eating properly.

Back to my thyroid. I have mid to low energy, my hair is thinning big time. Comes out in the shower every time I wash it. I have decided to treat for hypo thyroid issues. I am taking kelp supplements to get iodine levels up. (10 years ago specialists told me to stay off of salt and caffeine, that it appeared to trigger my hearing issue), so no iodine for years, other than what was in my food intake. Also taking vitamins A, D, E, a good supplement with zinc, magnesium, etc. So, I know I have issues with my thyroid and will not go to another specialist to go through what I went through 1o years ago. I know I cannot ignore it any longer. I have always taken a good multi vitamin, but only recently taking kelp supplement. Read that I should always cook my broccoli, cabbage, etc, before eating. Any suggestions? Loved for my hair to thicken up.

Well, here it is a long time since you posted this. I hope you will check back to find this answer to your eczema if you still have it. Eczema is caused by roundworms. No cream or change of diet is ever going to work. Nothing had worked for me until I found this book. Dr. Hulda Reghr Clark explains in her book, The Cure For All Cancers, the exact methods for getting rid of parasites (most people have them). She explains how roundworm even causes schizophrena and how parasites can cause many illnesses. I got rid of my eczema by following her protocol. It took 2 weeks. I took her full strength herbal formula for 2 Saturdays and did the zapper treatments every day for 2 weeks beginning the first Saturday that I started taking the herbal formula. She explains how to begin taking the herbs gradually if you have cancer and are sick to your stomach, which I wasn't, so I began the formula full strength, that is, taking all the pills all at once with a little bread on an empty stomach. At the time the black walnut hull tincture was in liquid form, but now it is available in pills. At the end of 2 weeks my whole body became inflamed with eczema, but the next day it was all gone. People think there is no cure for eczema, but this is the cure. Roundworms are huge. Not only did my body expel parts of huge worms, but clumps of new babies as big as my fist. The roundworms are about 20 inches long and as big around as your thumb. They multiply by the millions. Imagine what destruction they can do when they invade your whole body! You have to keep your body clean because everybody has parasites! The wonderful and brilliant Dr. Clark died a few years ago, but you can buy her products from Self Health Resource Center in Chula Vista, CA, www.DrClarkStore.com. Her books have been printed in several languages and have been sold throughout the world.

Magnet Therapy

Liz: You are welcome.

I get the feeling that people are reluctant to try Magnet Therapy especially on the Thyroid, so I will respond be not afraid as there is no evidence of harm. I use strong magnets, but one should at least begin removing bad energy, inflammation, and infection with a simple Refrigerator Magnet. From my personal experience in a variety of conditions and body parts, Magnets are the single best place to start a cure. So many conditions never respond favorably to many treatments whether conventional or alternative because of the "preconditions" of bad energy, inflammation, and infection.

Recently I have found Zapping almost completely ineffective for local infection in my joints & lower spine until I discovered Magnet Therapy was absolutely necessary prior to Zapping. So now, I do this sequence as a rule-of-thumb on joints or even sensitive parts like thyroid & Thymus glands. Speaking of the Thymus Gland, in relation to the Thyroid, there could very well be a connection with especially the autoimmunity. Any toxin like Fluoride, zenobiotic, parasite, or infection in the Thymus Gland will produce immune dysfunction of many types as the Thymus is "the brain" of the immune system. For starters, one should use a Refrigerator Magnet on both these glands and also do a "tapping" with a fingertip to both heal & stimulate these glands back to normal.

My sister had wilson's disease. We discovered it when she was a young teenager. One night she convulsed and was taken to the hospital. Later we were told she had too much copper in her blood and it was settling on her brain. To keep the copper running, they prescribed penicilamine which she had to take for the rest of her life. She was to avoid alcohol and any thing that might contain copper. I believe the disease was named after president Wilson. My sister lived a normal life but died of cancer when she was 50. We do not believe the cancer was related to the Wilson disease because cancer runs rampant in my family. One of the signs of Wilson disease that I know about is a yellow ring around the iris of the eye. My sister was the only one in my family with the disease. It was a rare disease at one time but I believe it is more common today..hope I was able to be of some help. Sorry but I do not know of anything natural than can be useful. Something I will research for my own curiosity.

Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 03/20/2015

Hi Danny...There may be completely different reasons for your hyperthyroid problems while supplementing lugols iodine. The old belief was that it was the excess iodine in the blood that caused hyperthyroid symptoms.

But current independent research seems to now think that it is not the iodine but is the excess bromine that is detoxed by the iodine which goes into the blood in large amounts that causes all these hyper symptoms. See the research here.

The solution is to take the full Iodine protocol with all companion nutrients and take sea salt with water once or twice a day. The liver has great difficulty getting rid of bromine from the blood, but if you take sea salt(NaCl) then the chloride binds to the bromine in the blood to be easily and quickly excreted via the urinary pathway. Hence, this gets rid of all the excess bromine symptoms when you supplement the iodine. Here is the sea salt protocol that you should also try using together with the iodine protocol.

Just to also mention that I take 50 mgs lugols iodine per day(8 drops of 5% LI per day) and I have never had any problem with this daily dose. I also still take the full iodine protocol with all the advised companion nutrients. Been doing this without any problems for about 9 years, ever since I cured my own systemic candida issues.

The person who's done probably the most extensive research on thyroid disease and natural approaches for recovery is by Dr. Datis Kharrazian. He warns that taking iodine or eating iodine-rich food when you have certain thyroid problems can be like throwing gas on a fire. In his book, he explains scientific reasons iodine helps with some situations, but is very harmful in others. He's a thyroid expert, and doctors take his courses, so you can probably find an informed practitioner through his website. His book also explains why the thyroid epidemic is rampant these days.

My current regiment is to take Borax M-Th as told by Ted 1/8 tsp. First thing in the morning I'll take 1 drop of 2.3% MB - that gets put into a cup and mixed with 1000mg of ascorbic acid. Fr-Sun I'll take 12-30mg of Lugol's. No MB on those days, or if I do, I put 12 hours between them.

TSP I'll take after work, 1 oz of a solution (1/2 tsp in liter water).

I plan on taking STS and turpentine on different days since they are so powerful. Perhaps Saturday and Wednesday nights before bed.

Anyone see any issues with this? I also take sodium bicarb after lunch and dinner.

WARNING!

Graves disease/hyperthyroid is actually from low iodine believe it or not so the world is uneducated therefore apple cider vinegar will aggravate graves but help hypo because obviously hypothyroidism is actually from too much iodine and apple cider actually depletes iodine and for some reason it helps people with hypothyroidism......go figure so I found this out with taking iodine in multi vitamins in the morning and after 5 months of no period it came back so there you go.

@Jennifer: The standard nutritional support protocol for Thyroid disorder is Coconut Oil, Lugols Iodine, and L-Tyrosine. It is important to start w/ low doses of these and slowly increase as your need for medication will probably need reducing.

If these nutrients don't bring about a healing you may need to try Magnet therapy and maybe also zapping to reduce inflammation and kill pathogens.

This is my first time on this website. I am reading a lot about coconut oil which I have heard about for a very long time because in my country (the islands) the older people used coconut oil on their skin, hair and to cook. My question is I have a nodule (lump) in my thyroid I am on medication for many years now , do you think by taking the coconut oil it will shrink the lump? I have been seeing an ENT Dr.for many years.

Kelp
Posted by John (South Africa) on 05/19/2014

I began taking kelp as a source of iodine, I noticed an immediate improvement in my weight loss but I began to suffer with sinus issues and had very low energy. After a few days a thick white coating with an odd taste appeared on my tongue. I think it might have been a case of mercury contamination in kelp "feeding" yeast overgrowth. I've not suffered with any type of yeast overgrowth before and having gone off the kelp, my symptoms have alleviated.

Thru all of my reading and research about thyroid issues...both holistically and medical clinical trials, you should never treat the thyroid without also treating your adrenals with a good supplement. The two organs work hand in hand. Also, if you are iodine deficient, it doesn't matter how much medicine you take, your thyroid won't be able to process it. However, if you take blood pressure meds and want to supplement with iodine, make sure to take an iodine that does NOT contain potassium iodides as this will cause a potassium buildup in your body that the kidneys cannot excrete fast enough. Getting your thyroid and adrenals balanced can be a long and difficult process, but 14 months into this and the knowledge that I have gained...I have hopes that I am finally getting there. From what I know now and what I knew one year ago when a doctor put me on thyroid medication that led to a hyperthyroid state..is a world of difference. I have quit the specialist and gone back to my family doctor that is working with me to get to a healthy state. I know now when I look at the tests taken one year ago, I did not need meds...I needed supplements to rebuild my thyroid and adrenals that became depleted from the shingles and chronic stress that I had been under the year before. I was vitamin D deficient and B 12 deficient. I was also low on female hormones, but after being on bio identical hormones for 13 years, my body was trying to tell me that I had had enough...that was part of the reason that my thyroid was sluggish. By the way, I no longer take the hormones. My advice is to know and listen to your body....you are the only you that you have but one of many patients that your doctor has. They don't have the time to research and figure out how to address the root of your health issues only treat the symptoms. I have taken what I have learned from others on here and spent countless hours reading clinical studies to develop my own regime. I have a very analytical mind and research how all of the supplements interact with each other and in the body. Wishing you good luck and good health!

HI U PRIORIS, , , , , , , , , Our Anti-aging doctor put us on fish oil big time some 6 years ago. We buy ours from LEF because they are quality folks. We subscribe to a few medical news letters and one is edited by Dr Robert Rowen. He says that Omega 3's from fish oil is bad news Charlie and will cause you to age before your time. You have to believe somebody so we are swapping out about $ 400 of Omega 3 fish oil for 3, 6, 9 oil from vegetables. There are a lot of experts this day and time and you have to pick who you think is a winner.

The best two news letters we have found is Dr Rowen and Dr Frank Scellenberger. You dang sure can't go with your regular MD. He is 20 years behind the times and only listens to the Pharma rep in a tight skirt, and feeds his staff. I say that because our youngest daughter was a Big Pharma rep for a number of years.

The medical field has changed in my lifetime and most of you know this. It's a big house, a beach house and a European vacation. As the sayin goes, " DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS". Don't mess with the medical field unless you want confusion.

That is my word. ======OLE ROBERT HENRY==========

I too have to agree with Om. I purchased what I thought was quality OO, but I kept having to return it to the store because it went rancid. Then it was on quite a few news briefs about how companies were diluting the OO with cheaper oils to cut costs. You just don't know who you can trust anymore.

The government has for many years advocated fish oil. I bump into so many people who climbed on board.

But they neglect to warn people - the oxidation in fish oil are known to cause aging and lower intelligence. I take the more stable and less rancid krill oil but I a;ways take it with enough antioxidants. An alternative is to take parent oils or non fish oils. There is a point of view which says that fish oils are not good for you based on the ratio of 18 and 20 chained molecules must be maintained which I haven't become convinced.

So the powers that be try to screw people through the holistic health angle. Anything they recommend even if it seems healthy, one must keep on alert for the gotchas.

Most of those people who climbed on board with fish oils will get damaged over the long run without the antioxidants. Some manufacturers of fish oil do add antioxidants but usually not enough.

I have to agree with Om here. I've been using VCO to cook with and medicinally for over 6 years now and I've never regretted doing this. Mind you, VCO is much cheaper in the Philippines than in the West. VCO helped to kill my candida, rapidly cured my constipation (I was going for poops once every 7 days -- and that's serious), I lost weight and the VCO also helped my skin by leaps and bounds. What's more, my BP is still at 110/70 -- been that value for the last 6 years -- ever since including VCO permanently in my diet (while excluding all processed veg oils).

So I am a little astonished when people say that saturated fat is bad for them. That's the Lipid Theory screaming at you in your brain and its like a knee-jerk or instinctive reaction for most people. We've all been taught or brainwashed by the drugs companies 40 years or so ago, when the FDA decided (together with the processed vegetable oil cartels in the US), that vegetable oils were all terribly good for the heart.

Strange though that even after the whole world population converted to processed veg oil 40 years ago and who are now all happily cooking everything imaginable in heavily processed (and oxidized) polyunsaturated vegetable oils -- that the heart disease statistics today in the West have gone logarithmic. Therefore, one must at least fairly conclude from this that the FDA's heart disease theory -- veg oils benefit the heart!! -- is absolute bunk and is just a stupid ruse to help aid sales for the US veg oil cartels.

In the 1970s-80s there was a trade war going on between the Asian coconut and palm oil cartels and the the aggressive US rapeseed cartels and farmers. The palm oil cartels were winning because their oil was cheaper. After some very bad heart research by Ancel Keys which was used to make saturated fats enemy number, people then started using more and more processed veg oils(more trans fats) in their diets and heart disease has blossomed to become the epidemic disease that it is today.

For those who want to know more about how they (and their parents) were duped/brainwashed by an ad campaign from the US veg oil cartels 40 years ago, then best to read this, which is pure common sense:

How a P.R. Campaign Led to Unhealthy Diets

There is burn point for the oil. There is the point when the vital nutrients of the oil get destroyed. You may both be right but in differnt ways. If oil is cold pressed, I would assume it's sensitive to heat

Jess, you brought up an excellent point. Using the natural cures requires due diligence in researching how the natural cure should be optimally taken. Blindly gulping down something and going no further in the learning process can cause failure. There is a self education process that one must endure even if very sick. One must understand how things interact with other things. Vitamin C can nullify iodine supplementation if one is not careful.

Many supplements will direct person to take with food (probably to avoid nausea problems) when to be efficacious one should take without food. Reading what's on the manufactures label is not sufficient.

Many people who come to earth clinic are still under the trance of their conventional medical doctors. They will continue to blindly follow the advice without lifting a finger to realize the inefficacy of so many of their prescribed medications. I notice many people who have side effects from astaxanthin are using other prescription medications. Natural medicines and conventional medicines are most of the time in opposition to each other. It requires a higher level of expertise to combine the two also and this is something that most doctors just won't do. They will just say the natural medicine doesn't work.

Some people are so overwhelmed with mental and physical sickness that they are unable to make the mental effort. It may take them a couple years to implement some suggestion. I am very careful with what I suggest knowing that what may seem like little effort to the average person may require a monumental effort from them mentally and physically. If they still trust their doctors, the negative fate of their health is usually sealed. Nothing can be really done.

Most people just want to be told what to do since it psychologically seems to make their life easier. If one is relatively healthy and has no major problem, it will usually work. They are lulled into a sense of comfort. When something serious comes along, they will usually be in trouble and will never know that conventional medicine was the reason behind their death.

I have to disagree. VCO if used tor sauteeing and not deep frying can take more heat than other oils. Read Dr. Fyfe's book on coconut oil .

Olive oil is now 98% marketed to include gmo'ed cheap oils and it will be difficult to find pure olive oil since it will not show on the label. See other posts on that on EC. Namaste Om

When coconut oil is heated to a certain temp, the "good stuff" is killed essentially. The same happens with many foods. That is why so many of you are probably not seeing much benefit. It can be used in WARM liquids to drink, but not HOT. (Same goes for honey for the record.) If you aren't buying COLD PRESSED oil then you will not see the same results. Of course you CAN cook with it--it won't hurt. But it won't really HELP you much medicinally either. Might as well use olive oil to cook with since it's typically much cheaper. I put a mixture of coconut oil, honey, and cinnamon in my tea once it has cooled down to a nice warm temp. I also use the same mixture in hot chocolate (once it has cooled to warm of course) along with protein powder. Very yummy.

When using ANYTHING as "medicine" be sure to read as much about it as you can!!! For example, as I've read on here elsewhere, the potassium iodide (I think that's right) in Lugol's iodine is counteracted by vitamin C when both are ingested within an hour or two of one another (so take your iodine supps at least an hour before/after having any vitamin C intake). Such info is crucial if you want to get the most out of your supplements (and the money you paid for them). Earth Clinic is a treasure trove of info! Read everything on here that you can. AND then google your supplements, and also google combos of the supplements you take to see what info is out there about taking them together (many times things can counteract one another). You can't just cook with coconut oil and say "Coconut oil didn't cure me of ______ so it doesn't work" etc, etc. You have to know HOW to use natural remedies (especially when you're also on any pharmaceutical DRUGS).

I have a tendency towards hyperthyroid (I'm not on any meds) but EVCO made my heart race and my hyperthyroid and insomnia symptoms a million times worse. I took tons of Magnesuim chloride and glycinate and exercised and my symptoms went away. The only other supplement that made me suddenly go into a hyperthyroid state like that was Iodine.

Weaning Off Meds
Posted by KT (Usa) on 08/24/2013

WOW Lauren, I just read your post and see that no one answered. I would suggest that if you are eating right you do not need to take a multi-vitamin. Some of those "inactive" ingredients are toxic to some. In addition, if you are eating right you could be consuming adequate vitamins that could become toxic with the addition of the fat-soluble ones. You may not even need them but you won't know until you are off of them. Deficiencies won't show up immediately and it may take a little time for any toxic effects, if that is what happened to you, to get out of your system.

I would suggest not going off the thyroid meds just yet. Maybe the multi-vitamin and the medication aren't compatible.

I truly hope by now someone has given you advice that helped.

Diatomaceous Earth came up on one of my searches, its powdered shells from the bottom of the ocean. Pls google.. But testimonials of people taking it includes growing their hair back.. It sounds safe enough to take, but do your homework first.

Hi, You can try MSM, Iodine or Kelp. I had hair loss also and it returned with these products. My hair loss was stress-related check that out also... There are a lot of things you can do about it, expensive and inexpensive if you search. I found a website of Dr. Berg you can see little video's about different types of people, and the things they should do to loose weight. I am an Adrenal type, he also refers to 'Thyroid type', 'Liver Type' and 'Ovary type'. I ordered his book and his description was very accurate! He recommends different diets and products to address all sorts of hormonal imbalances... Success!

Dear Laura, So sorry about the hair loss. That is really distressing. Nettles is extremely safe. I would highly recommend it. My son used it for his asthma and not only did it help, it healed him over time. Fresh nettles were used by people at one time as a "spring tonic. " I have also read about Biotin helping. You could safely drink a quart of nettle tea a day. I would get good quality loose nettle leaf and steep 1/4 cup in 1 quart of boiling water (but don't boil it, just pour the boiling water over the leaves and let them simmer for 20 minutes. ) Then strain and sweeten with honey and drink this daily. Or you could take a lot of nettle capsules, but I think the tea would be better.

I also have hypothyroid. When I was first diagnosed, I went on Synthroid, a very low dose. It made my hair fall out like I have never seen. I went off it and have been doing natural things and took Iodoral. My hair did grow back, though it isn't as thick as it used to be when I was younger. (I am 46. ) It took a while but I did get it to the point that my bloodwork said I was no longer hypothyroid. Some say that Iodoral isn't appropriate for those whose hypo. Is autoimmune. (However, I do think mine is as I have other autoimmune issues, like ITP.)

Rosemary is also good for hair growth. You could put the essential oil into your conditioner if you use it. Also, find a shampoo that doesn't have SLS in it as SLS causes hair loss among other things.

I once read some testimonies about juicing fresh cucumber to make hair grow better, but never had enough extra in my garden to try it. :)

Hope you find some good solutions! Let us know what helps you!

I know that biotin is one of the B vitamins and it has been emphasized in a nutrition almanac that you should take all of the B vitamins together because if you take one you can cause a deficiency in the others. For starters, you could try a TBSP of Blackstrap Molasses in a cup (8oz. ) of warm water or milk.
