Apple Cider Vinegar for Fat Burning and Weight Loss

| Modified on Jan 23, 2023

Simple, inexpensive, fat burning, digestive supporting apple cider vinegar (acv) can help with weight loss. Apple cider vinegar not only has the potential to reduce fat cells, taken at the right time of day it can help curb carbohydrate cravings and allow a satiated with less food.

5 Ways Apple Cider Vinegar Promotes Weight Loss

1. Digestion

Raw apple cider vinegar is a fermented food. Fermented foods have been used for centuries by many cultures to promote digestion.

Apple cider vinegar allows the stomach to feel full with less food. Overeating overtaxes the digestive system and does not maximize the nutrients consumed.

Apple cider vinegar helps the liver to function better.

2. Blood Sugar Control

Apple cider vinegar helps to regulate blood sugar. High blood sugar levels can contribute to weight gain.

3. Alkalize

Apple cider vinegar helps to alkalize the body. It is hard to lose weight in an acidic state.

4. Pathogen Elimination

Apple cider vinegar kills fungus and bacteria, which may be contributing to the body hanging on to weight. A body with infection or fungus will not work properly.

5. Energy

Apple cider vinegar can help energize the body. It is certainly easier to conjure up the motivation to exercise when feeling energetic. Obviously exercise is helpful to weight loss.

How Do I Use ACV to Burn Fat and Lose Weight?

Watch our video on the most effective ACV elixir for weight loss. Learn some of the side effects people experience from Apple Cider Vinegar.

Add 1 teaspoon of raw and organic apple cider vinegar to a glass of water (about 12 ounces of water.)

30 minutes before a meal prepare and consume the apple cider vinegar tonic. Ideally, will finish the tonic before meals start, but if not, just finish it up with the meal. At first, try using this tonic before two of meals each day.

A common dose is a total of 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar each day. Some people take up to 2 Tablespoons a day by putting a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in each glass of water they consume each day, or by adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to each 12 ounce glass of water.

You will need to see what works best for you and suits your system. Smaller individuals will likely need less apple cider vinegar to benefit from it. Individual metabolism, current health status, diet, and supplements or medications will affect how apple cider vinegar works.

To avoid the risk of side effects, start with a smaller amount of apple cider vinegar (even ½ teaspoon may be of benefit) and increase the amount slowly.

To maximize the fat burning effect of apple cider vinegar, combine it with a whole foods diet and some exercise each day. This remedy works well along side other weight loss remedies, or can be used as a stand alone solution. Continue reading to see how our readers have used apple cider vinegar for weight loss.

I have tried the ACV before for weight loss with no noticeable change. I decided to try again and really stuck with it. Within two weeks my friends starts to notice I lost some weight. I'm not one to believe much in using a weight scale, but my clothes are starting to feel a lot better. I drink the ACV and water before each meal. So far I have not changed my eating habits. But I am encouraged enough to eat better and start exercising for better results.

Reading the posts of the members encourage me to try ACV for weight loss. I really need to lose weight to reduce high blood pressure and cholesterol. I'll start drinking ACV 3x a day with juice through a straw.

Thanks for the info!

Hello Earth Clinic,

I have been taking 2 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother about 15 minutes before my meals 5 days a week for a month (2 weeks with organic honey, 2 weeks without). I experienced more energy the first two weeks, then the effects wore off. In addition, although I have slightly modified my eating, I have not lost any weight, in fact, I have gained about 5 lbs. I am a female, 23 years old, no children with good health, yet could stand to lose about 20 lbs (well with the recent weight gain that would be 25 lbs total). Can anyone offer any helpful advice with this matter? I am just about ready to give up :( I want to lose successfully like the rest of you guys.

Well, I have been taking apple cider vinegar. For a little over a week and I have lost 5 inches off my hips and 6 in off my waist. Not so much weight but inches yes. And my pants that was too small for me are now too big. So maybe you are losing inches instead of weight.

Just some generic notes, but if you are gaining weight and the only thing that is changing is the number on the scale, perhaps you are changing your dimensions. It's possible that any exercise you're able to do, is building the muscles in those areas (legs and buttocks are most widely used and largest muscle groups) 5 lb is easy to gain in someone starting anew. Bear in mind that gaining a little weight isn't always a bad thing. Conversely, if you are trying to lose weight in the thighs, buns, and mid-section, consider the 5 lb, it is going to make the measurements go up initially, because fat is consumed at a different (and more difficult to lose) rate than muscle is. So before you lose the fat, the muscle will make it appear that it's not at all working. Best advice is STICK WITH IT!

After reading all the other posts about weight loss success, I decided to try ACV. My first experience was after coming off my first trial of a lemonade detox diet about 4 months ago. Once I started eating normally again, I drank 1 tablespoon ACV mixed with 8 ounces of water 2-3 times per day before meals. This went on for 2-3 weeks. Alarmingly, I seemed to be gaining weight instead of losing it. I went from 115 llbs to 125! To be fair, my weight before the 9-day juice fast was 121, so I wasn't sure if the gain was from coming off of the detox juice-fast or from the ACV, so I stopped taking the ACV. It was probably a mix of both.

As I never lost the 4 extra pounds that I gained, I decided to try the vinegar again. I tried it for 2 days, this time with only 1 teaspoon with 8oz. of water and gained exactly one pound each day (up to 127 lbs)! I've been off it now for two days and my weight has returned to 125 again. I would have gone longer just to make sure, but I feared not being to lose the weight again. I am a 27 year-old female who makes healthy food choices most of the time and exercises 3-5x per week. I know that I do not consume enough calories to be gaining a pound per day from what I eat. I believe that the ACV must be interfering with my hormones somehow. Another reason I think this is because my menstrual cycle was affected (I started bleeding moderately, even though my period officially ended a week ago).

Interestingly, yesterday a friend directed me to some literature about blood type diets. My type is AB. In a book that I read, it said that people with this type should avoid all vinegar and pickled foods. It also said that AB's are predisposed to menstrual problems and migraines...conditions that I'm chronically plagued with. I'm going to take some time look to into this information and test out their eating plan. Hopefully it works. Either way, I won't be turning to ACV again for help with weight loss.

Hello, I am also blood type AB and I have been using apple cider vinegar for over a year, closer to two years, with 2 teaspoons in each bottle of water. just Recently I've begun to loose weight, which may or may not be associated with ACV. So I am not sure what the blood type this has to do with it as I feel good all the time. I also no longer have an appetite suppression since Nov/15, again this may or may not be related to taking ACV.

I think the reason Michelle S. lost so much weight has nothing to do with the ACV, but rather the 20 oz. of water in the morning and before dinner.

Many times, people eat because they mistake thirst for hunger, they overeat in response, and therefore gain weight. It has been shown in studies that people are normally functioning in a dehydrated state, more often than not. Additionally, if you are drinking 20 oz. of water right before you have dinner, it has nothing to do with the ACV but you taking up 2. 5 cups of volume in your stomach. Therefore, you feel full faster and eat less calories.

Bravo on dropping some pounds and getting hydrated, but if you really want to get healthy and not just "skinny, " I would recommend losing the junk food. Those are just empty calories with little to no nutritional value and if you have been that successful with your ACV regimen, you should be able to easily and slowly change your eating habits for incredible success.

Good Luck!

Hi, Bad mouth can be eliminated by regular brushing of teeth and tongue cleaning. compulsorily while going to bed. Also change the food style and chew your food properly sense the taste of the food and then swallow. Hope that will serve your weight problem. Take half table spoon of ACV every alternative days for a trail of one month. If you found no side effects you can continue for 2 months. Then stop for another 3 start again. Long time consuming ACV is not good. Always give periodic break.

To Momna in Pakistan: For bad mouth odor, may be caused by problems with teeth and plaque and bacteria imbalances in the mouth. My friend from Pakistan has clean, white teeth and always good breath and no problems and has never been to the dentist in his life and grew up in a farm life in Pakistan.? He is 40 yrs old and does brush his teeth, but has always used occasionally, neem root. He chews on it for a few mins a couple of times a week. I can not find this to buy online anywhere. He gets in from Pakistan when he visits.

Hi all. As mentioned before the required dose for weight loss is 2 teaspoons in 16 oz of water which is to to be sipped over the course of the day. My question is, since the Apple Cider Vinegar can cause damage to the enamel when do I rinse/ brush my mouth after taking the solution. I haven't started the remedy as yet, however I do understand that it is recommended that the solution be sipped through a straw. Thank you in advance for any replies- I am so grateful for this wonderful site and have told all my friends about it.

Hey Taaz, As a dental professional, drinking the apple cider mix is best ingested through a straw. However, while sipping understand that when sugar or acid is introduce into the body, it will continue to show it self through saliva that washes over your teeth throughout the day. You must brush no less than twice a day especially before you go to bed, thats when damage will occur due to (0) liquid flow in the mouth and always increase water intake throughout the day. This will decrease acid or sugar damage to the oral cavity

Put baking soda on your toothbrush, and brush with it to neutralize acids in your mouth. Baking soda is the great neutralizer. Also, rinsing with H20 and baking soda will neutralize acid in your mouth. There is a "baking soda" brand of toothpaste out there, but even that has negligible baking soda content. Much more effective to put it loose onto your toothbrush.

Ok got a question for you if I take a tsp of the Apple Cider Vinegar just straight up since I can't stand the taste (never have) will it do harm? I can suffer thru the taste then drink the water straight up but sipping it.... Not sure about that one. What is everyones opinion on this one.

Hi Dr...
If you do that, it will work, but most people take a couple of tablespoons at a time, 2x a day. After prolonged exposure, your teeth and throat might not like it. If you put 2 tablespoons of ACV in the bottom of a glass, and add 1/2 of a TEAspoon of baking soda to it.... And let it sit until it stops foaming, then add water (about 8 - 10oz) and a splash of Orange Juice or Apple Juice, (or any type of juice - about 2 oz) I swear you will not even notice the ACV! Just give it a try.... Oj is best for masking the taste in my opinion.
It is really worth the effort. I don't even really measure anymore, I just dump this and that and all good. Been taking it for about a year, and loving it.

I could not handle it in water either it made me want to vomit. I started taking straight shots of it until I read about someone adding it to juice. I will add 2tbls to about 16oz of grapefruit or orange juice(only juices I like) & you can't even taste it. My husband drinks it in Apple so I'm assuming any juice of your choice would work. Make sure you use a straw to get past the teeth as it does break down enamel. Hope this helps!

Hi Jesseca, In reply to the ACV I take it with 2 tbl. ACV w/ Honey in about 8oz. water 3x day. Although you can sip it through the day im sure the outcome is the same. I've been doing this for about 1 1/2 months now and i love it! I've lost 12 lbs. so far but id like to lose 20 but this summer. It gives me more energy and my complexion is so much better also. I also started putting virgin coconut oil 1 tbl. a day and it gave me a jolt of energy so i think im going to keep that up too! It helps me with chasing my kids all day!

Good Luck

Hi everyone, Have you tried raw honey and cinnamon for weight loss? My partner is having 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon in a cup of boiling water ( 250 MLS ) allow to cool 1/2 hour before adding 1 teaspoon of raw honey, drink half the cup before bed and the rest in the morning. Apparently it just as effective on toast.

He is not a regular exerciser and likes a few beers, will keep you updated. Honey and cinnamon have plenty of health benefits too. I am trying the ACV I would like to loose a few kilo's, was having it after meals without loosing kilo's ( LOST CM's .) Will now try before meals.

We haven't been on these for long, close to a month so far.

I started taking ACV for what I suspect is candida. I feel better and I am also losing weight. I am 5'7, 148 lbs, 39 yrs old. I mix 2 teaspoon with water, and a small tsp of honey to help the taste, in the morning after breakfast. It stops the nauseaus feeling I've been having from candida, but also seems to curb my appetite. I don't have the urge to eat so much carb or huge portions. It just makes it easier to eat healthy and less. Also it seems my water retention problem is getting better.

Apple Cider Vinegar does Deter the Appetite if you drink it STRAIGHT, a couple of Tablespoons a couple of times everyday. Its main benefit is that it RIDS the Human ORGANS of Parasites that attach & live in our organs that we All get from Mosquitos, Water, Coffee Beans, Food, Salads, Walking Bare Feet. If you don't want it to deter your appetite and you only take it for the health benefits add water.

V8 (or regular tomato juice). Some people use orange or grapefruit juice but I like the tomato better and don't want the extra sugar. You can also put it in tomato soup or pasta sauce.

I'm a super busy graduate student with very little time to work out, and too much time spent sitting and reading notes/writing papers. I try to work out when possible, and to eat healthy, but time constraints and very limited funding keep me from doing so consistently.

I've decided to try ACV to see if I can yield any positive results to help me shed the weight I've gained from years of sedentary study.

I have been sipping the recommended 16 oz of water with 2 tsp of ACV (the B* organic raw-unfiltered apple cider vinegar with "the mother") with honey in it for a week and a day now (I started Monday April 24).

Almost immediately I noticed that my appetite shrank, I'm eating smaller portions, not having cravings for sweets. According to a calorie tracker I'm consuming less than 1400 calories a day, and only over the weekend did I have anything sweet. I also pee a lot but that isn't entirely unusual for me, so I'm unsure if it is related or not.

I don't have a scale, as they tend to breed more insecurity in me more than anything, so I can't track my progress that way. I may look into a cheap one soon. So far I haven't lost any inches, but it has only been a week so I'm still hopeful!

I'll try to post any progress, any advice would be welcome!

Yes, many people have food sensitivities to many things as well as ACV, try buying some pure aloe vera juice and drinking it after, it is one of natures best remedies for upset stomachs especially since it is one of the best natural cures for stomach ulcers. Tom

Apple Cider Vinegar can & will increase your Stomach Acid causing Gerd/Indigestion so if it burns your stomach neutralize it with milk or baking soda & discontinue the ACV, the only people that benefit fully from acv are those with low stomach acid. So if you get a burning sensation it means you have too much stomach acid. You can take a splash of ACV in a gallon of water & sip it through the day, this will help not get the acid reflux. Or I have taken it with baking soda & that also works because baking soda neutralizes it. Acv also lowers blood sugar & that could be the reason your so hungry. Hope this helps.
