Activated Charcoal

Discover fast and natural solutions for toothache relief with home remedies like activated charcoal, garlic, clove oil, apple cider vinegar, and salt water rinses. These remedies are not only efficient in easing tooth pain but are also convenient for at-home use. They're especially beneficial for managing sudden toothache episodes that can occur during inconvenient times, such as nighttime or weekends, when immediate dental consultation isn't an option.

Understanding the Causes of Tooth Pain

Tooth pain can arise from various factors. Common culprits include dental infections, tooth decay, sensitivity to temperature changes, and acid exposure. While these are immediate causes, it's essential to recognize the influence of genetics, dietary habits, and oral hygiene practices in determining the frequency and intensity of toothache experiences. Regular dental care is crucial in preventing and managing tooth pain effectively.

Rapid Relief Natural Remedies for Toothache

1. Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is a remarkable natural remedy known for alleviating toothache pain. It works by drawing out toxins and reducing inflammation, addressing the root cause of dental discomfort.

How to Use Activated Charcoal for Toothache Relief

To use activated charcoal for tooth pain, create a paste by mixing the charcoal with a little water. Apply this paste to a piece of gauze or a cotton t-shirt and place it directly over the affected tooth, applying gentle pressure. This method can significantly reduce toothache pain, often within 20 to 45 minutes.

Testimonial from Keith, a Medical Missionary

Keith, a medical missionary with extensive experience in natural healing methods, shares a compelling account of using activated charcoal for toothache. He recalls an incident involving his wife, who suffered from severe toothache pain radiating to her temple. Despite the intensity of the pain, the application of an activated charcoal poultice brought significant relief in just 15 to 30 minutes, allowing her to finally sleep.

Furthermore, Keith mentions starting a regimen of drinking charcoal mixed with water, which helped manage the infection causing the pain. His friend, also a seasoned medical missionary, suggests an alternative remedy combining charcoal, clove oil, cayenne pepper, olive oil, and golden seal for toothache and jaw pain. This mixture, when applied to the affected tooth, generates heat, providing comfort and accelerating pain relief.

For tooth abscesses, another mixture involving slippery elm, baking yeast, cloves, and cayenne pepper is recommended. This paste, known for reducing swelling in abscesses, is applied around the gum, leveraging the drawing properties of slippery elm and the stimulating effect of cayenne pepper.

2. Garlic

Utilize a simple clove of garlic or garlic powder to alleviate tooth pain. Garlic, renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties, is effective against viruses, fungi, and bacteria, making it a versatile remedy for dental discomfort. This is the most popular remedy on Earth Clinic for toothaches.

3. Clove

Clove, available as ground cloves, whole cloves, or clove essential oil, is a potent anti-bacterial agent that numbs the affected area, providing immediate relief from tooth pain.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

Mix apple cider vinegar with water for a soothing drink that eases various pains, including those caused by dental issues.

5. Oil Pulling

Swishing coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for 10-15 minutes can significantly reduce tooth pain. Enhance this method by adding essential oils for added benefits.

6. Clay

Various types of clay can be used to create a pack or poultice that, when applied to the tooth, provides pain relief.

7. Vitamin C

Supplementing with vitamin C, in addition to other remedies, can be particularly beneficial for toothaches resulting from infections.

8. Salt Water Rinse

Saltwater rinses are a straightforward yet effective method for reducing pain and infection associated with toothaches. This remedy works well alongside other natural treatments.

9. Oregano Essential Oil

Oregano essential oil, known for its strong antiviral and antibacterial properties, is also effective in managing dental pain.

10. Enhanced Oil Pulling

Repeating the oil pulling method using coconut or sesame oil and adding a few drops of essential oils like oregano or tea tree can amplify the healing effects of this remedy for tooth pain.

Herbs for Tooth Pain Relief

1. Turmeric

Turmeric, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, is also effective against infections. For acute tooth pain, mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric in warm milk. Alternatively, apply turmeric powder directly to the area of discomfort for targeted relief.

2. Olive Leaf

Olive leaf, a potent antibacterial herb, can be conveniently taken in capsule form. Follow the package instructions for dosage and frequency.

3. Tea Bags

Black or green tea bags can serve as an immediate poultice. Simply moisten a tea bag with warm water and apply it directly to the affected tooth for pain relief.

Other Effective Natural Remedies for Toothache

1. Baking Soda

Dissolve 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Consuming this mixture can help alleviate pain by alkalizing the body. Staying hydrated is also crucial, as dehydration can exacerbate pain.

2. Vanilla or Almond Extract

Apply a few drops of vanilla or almond extract to a cotton ball and place it against the painful tooth for a soothing effect.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide

Using 3% hydrogen peroxide (found in brown bottles) can relieve tooth pain. Gargle with it, spray it onto the affected tooth or hold it in your mouth for a few minutes several times a day.

Acmella oleracea, also known as Spilanthes acmella or toothache plant, is a natural analgesic which numbs the tongue and gums. Chewing a young bud results in extremely strong tingling and numbing effect. You can also make a tincture using 1 part herb (buds, flowers, leaves)1 part water, and 5 parts ethanol. I had a two dental issues going on. one is that I had tooth that was painful only when I was eating and I had two failed dental implants removed weeks ago still I was having pain. I emptied four activated charcoal pills and mixed a few drops of water to make a really thick paste. I put the thick paste made from charcoal one the problem areas in my mouth and the pain was gone and my tooth had quieted down until I could get to the dentist,

I've been using salt to calm down a tooth infection with a lump on my gum. This time salt somehow made it worse and I woke with terrible tooth pain at 3am! I prayed and tried salt again. Nothing. Iodine. Nothing. Then quickly came here to Earth Clinic - my go to if all else fails! Seeing that I had charcoal in my "medicine closet" I quickly made a poultice and applied. The pain and swelling subsided pretty instantaneously. Thank you so much!!

YES!!! I can attest to the charcoal for tooth pain, too! Had a scale 9 pain one night before I could get to a dentist. Excruiciating. Saw this method and happened to have one cap - making a paste - the swelling in my gums subsided after about an hour, pain to tolerable 5. It really pulls the toxins out! SOOOOO gratefull to have found this for my lost filling and exposed nerve! Before taking it, was on my way to extraordinary gum swelling and awful pain. It is my hero!

wow I now know the meaning of trying anything to make the pain stop. my tooth has been hurting on and off for a couple of days now. but I was using over the counter meds til I could get in to dentist last night it became unbareable. I was in sooo much pain. I almost got the tool box out and pulled my own tooth.

Instead I hopped on internet and found this thread. I used what I had in closet to get me through night. (honey, cinnamon, tea, garlic and I threw in oats too. This helped to draw some of the infection out. Cause around 4am I was spitting it blood that had a yellow color to it) around 9am I went to health foods store and got the charcoal and slippery elm clove oil and pick up some cayanne pepper at grocey store. Came home made a paste out of all of it and put it in my gum and tooth and pain free wooohooo. so I am hoping this will draw infection out and that I can go to denist with it under control instead of having to pay for two appts but who ever started all of this thank you cause I am going to make it through holiday weekend now.

Yes! The activated charcoal STOPPED my TOOTH ACHE within minutes. I opened 1 activated charcoal capsule, poured on saucer, added drops of water, which a made runny paste, put it on my finger and then rub it on the gum above my aching tooth. When the tooth would start to feel like it was beginning to ache again, I added this charcoal mixture, and it stopped the pain.

Was reading the remedies and just wanted to add the following: I am a medical missionary that uses natural methods of healing. I encounter several different diseases and sickness in my line of work.

One remedy that I have never seen fail for toothache pain, is charcoal. It will stop severe toothache pain in about 20-45 minutes in most cases! I will give you an example with my wife. She begin to have toothache pain last year(2005) around the time of thanksgiving. She begin to call dentists for an appointment; however, the soonest that she could get an appointment was 2 weeks! To make a long story short the pain became unbearable. It radiated all the way to her temple on the side of the bad tooth.

So I took activated charcoal, added a little water, stirred to a paste consistency, placed it on a gauze(a piece of cotton t-shirt could also be used) and placed it directly over the tooth. I had her press down very gently. I then offered a prayer.

In about 12-15 minutes the pain that was radiating up to her temple begin to subside. In about 20-30 minutes my wife, who had been in such great pain, that she was in tears, and was unable to even sleep, dropped off to sleep.

The next day we also started her on a program of drinking 2-3 glasses per day of a table spoon of the charcoal mixed with a glass of water. She did eventually go to the dentist only to find that a small cavity had exposed a nerve, and infection had set in.

The charcoal worked on the infection because it is the inflammation that causes the pain. So by pulling or drawing the poisons from the infection(the underlying cause) the inflammation is addressed.

A friend of mine, who is also a very experienced medical missionary, with more than 30 years of hands on experience, even running a natural clinic in Tennessee for a long time, and having a 45-50% success rate with 4 stage cancer, (conventional success rate with 4th stage cancer is about 5%" gives the following alternative for toothache pain and abscess

These are direct quotes: "Mix 3 tablespoons charcoal,1/2 teaspoon clove oil, 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ½ teaspoon olive oil (enough to make a paste), and 1 teaspoon of golden seal. He states: " This remedy is strictly for pain in the jaw or tooth pain. Pack this around the tooth that is giving you problems. If you can cover the tooth up it will generate heat. That will remove the pain faster than any toothache remedy. Try it. You will feel the heat and you can go wash your mouth out. If you are in a lot of pain the heat is comforting. The pain of the poultice drawing is less than the throbbing of the toothache.[The mixture] should be quite thick, about the consistency of natural peanut butter. You want to be able to mould it around the tooth, so that it will stick."

The next is for an abscess specifically.

His words: "If you have an abscess with a lot of swelling, you cannot get that tooth pulled until you get the abscess under control. This recipe is famous for getting that abscess down 3 parts Slippery Elm, 2 parts baking yeast, 4 drops cloves, 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Add a little water, enough to make a paste. It will be gummy due to the slippery elm. Then pack this mixture around the gum. The slippery elm, like charcoal, draws the inflammation, the cayenne stimulates the cells around the tooth to release toxins and the cloves are added for the reputation as a pain remedy, especially in toothache.

I'm so glad I read your comments about your experience as a medical missionary and what you've mentioned about your friend's experience as well. I'm likely to go ahead and try the remedy myself. I'm looking for a natural alternative to antibiotics to remedy an abcessed tooth and it seems that charcoal is the answer. I'm sure you already know that technology is well behind mother nature in curing the uncureable such as cancer.

I'm one of the lucky few who decided to go with instinct rather than my doctor's advice when approaching treatment for my own stage 5 (yes - stage 5) squeamous cell carcinoma. Instead of becoming a lab animal for experimentation, I put my faith in God and mother nature to take care of me come hell or high water and guess what? Through a regimen of supplements, nutrition, and positive vibes with friends and family in life I pulled through. Surely would have died within the year if I had followed my doctor's advice. That was 8 years ago and no signs of relapse. It's refreshing to hear that others are enjoying the same type of success - 40-50% huh?

Anyways, thanks for the confirmation of my lifestyle and advice for my abcess! I had an abcess in the same spot 5 months ago that doc's and dentist told me would need removal of the tooth immediately but I wanted to keep my tooth and never had it pulled when the abcess went away with penicillin. I'm gonna try something natural this time. So glad I came to this site and read yours and others posts! Thanks,
Ethersteve

After several hours of pain from a rear wisdom tooth that had been sensitive for about a year and turned bad, I tried several things including clove or cinnamon cassia oil to dumb the pain, only thing that worked was swishing a spoonful of real almond extract around bad tooth for about 20 seconds, no pain for about three hours almost instantly will work until I see dentist.

Anytime I have problems with my gums or teeth I use Alum. I pack my gums or brush my teeth with Alum. I also use oil pulling with Coconut oil. I love these two things. They have helped me a lot.You can find Alum in the spice rack at the store.

I would strongly suggest not using alum, it is an aluminum salt and toxic to injest.

This was the best remedy, it works like a charm and works fast, I had tried all kinds of over the counter meds, orajel but nothing else worked like this natural remedy, it soothed the pain until I was able to get to the dentist, I put warm water, 2 teaspoons acv(with the mother) and added salt to mine and gargled with it and it worked immediately

I have a tooth that need to be pulled on my upper left in the back. It started bothering me and I was taking ibuprofen and using Orajel, which worked well at first. Over the weekend, the pain was increasing and ibuprofen was not cutting it. I tried alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen and the pain was unbearable. I tried tea tree oil and vanilla extract which numbed for only a few brief moments. My husband thought of ACV, I said, I don't want to just try anything, and he found your website. I am so thankful for these reviews and testimonies to ACV. I mixed 2 TBSP ACV and 2 TBSP warm water, drank the majority of it down and swished the last swallow for 1 min. It is not easy to drink if you're not used to it, but the benefits out weigh the sour taste. It took a little longer than 15 minutes for me, but I do weigh over 200 lbs, so that probably has a factor. I was able to sleep, I was able to go to work, I have the slightest ache now, but I can live with this until I can get my tooth out. Thank God for my husband, ACV, and your site!!!

ACV stopped my severe tooth pain.

After 7 days of agony and mental anxiety this is what I just did. 2 tablespoons of organic ACV with the mother. Put in one glass of warm spring water. Drank it down and then swished throbbing tooth with last mouthfull and spit out. OMG I trully feel alive again. YES THAT FAST. I have no dental insurance and hence no dentist to run to. I will repeat once more before bed for good measure. Thank you all who who reminded me with your posts that ACV works wonders. Bless your hearts!!!

Apple cider vinegar, room temp distilled water, a hope and a prayer.

Mixed 2 tbs ACV with 2 tbs distilled water (slightly warmer than room temperature. Drank at once, but forgot to swish because of the excruciating pain. Immediately prepared another 1 tbs of each and mixed prior to swishing. Swished concoction in mouth for 30-60 seconds, (directing the majority to the area of mouth where toothache presented), then spit once finished with swishing. Good enough for Suzie from Zootown, good enough for me, Eric from Zootown. Boy oh boy, what a wonderful wizardry!!!
