font style and ease of reading

It is nice to be able to read paragraph text when it is styled to be of ease to read. here is what i use, have your web master make a sample for you to see the results compared to what your web pages are out putting at presently.
font-size 100%
font-family , your choice
line-height: 1.5em
word-spacing: .2em
letter-spacing: .1em

EC: Thanks so much, James! A few index pages (Ailments, Remedies, Pets) are currently being re-designed for ease of use too. The font size/type issue was next on my list. I will ask the programmer test the changes you suggest. Appreciate your suggestions!

It would be cool to have a preview feature when (before) sending a post. It would show how the post would look like and give a chance to improve the readability and help maybe catch some typos.

EC: What a great suggestion, thank you Alain! I have a long list of items for the programmer, but shall add that one near the top.

Hi Alain,

A preview button has been added to the submission pages for both registered and non-registered users. Please check it out and let me know what you think! You will find the PREVIEW icon just above the spam verification code.

Hi Deirdre

Greetings from Ottawa.

While testing the preview feature I have another question.

It seems that my userid and password are not kept so each time I want to logon I have to put them manually. I don't know if it is the normal behavior, or not. In the case that they should be kept in memory somehow (by a cookie?) I am using Firefox 2 on a Windows 2000 system.

The preview feature works perfect and is great!.

Thanks a lot!

EC: Hi Alain,

The site uses sessions to save login information.  The only "problem" with that is that once you navigate away from EC you need to login again. We realize its annoying for people who come back to the site a few times a day and have to log back in, but sessions are more secure than cookies, according to one of my programmers.

2nd feedback

I noticed that, once in the preview, both the edit and submit links returns back to the original submit form.

I realize now that the preview is not a new window but an addition to the submit form. So the edit and submit links navigate to either sections from the same page. The submit link does not perform the form submission, it therefore might confuse some in the beginning.

My only suggestion than is could there be just a little popup info that might say for example when the cursor is over edit "brings you to the edit box" and "brings you to the submit button" when the cursor is over the submit link?

The preview section is good and already saved me some typos.

EC: Thanks for more great feedback, Alain! I will see if he can add that to make it more clear for everyone.

I see that the little popups have been added, that is great.

Here is another feedback related to the preview feature.

When I go to "Give Feedback" and I preview my post, it seems to loose the "Subject of your Email" text. This does not happen however when I reply to a post because the Subject field is frozen.

Thanks again

EC: Thanks, Alain!

The subject for new posts is now visible on the preview pop up. Please note, however, that the subject box is a temporary field as new posts are typically re-titled for the table of contents during the approval process!

You should do a topic on positive Living!!! Eating healthy, fresh air, exercise, take up a new hobbie that interest you, give others a helping hand at least once a week, talk to people before an issue gets out of hand then you can move forward with a clear mind. Make sure to look after people around you even if it's by using positive words to give them a lift. More people that do this will notice a feeling of contentment and add to their positive living by finding more of life to live in each day that has a rippling effect. Happy living to all and remember to turn negatives into positives by looking at the whole picture and plant a seed of goodness in your heart, I have no doubt it will grow!!!

Testimonies: Just a suggestion.

Please name the condition you cured at the beginning of your post in capital letters. In that way one can vet the comments that applies to them easily, instead of reading all posts.

EC: EC READERS: Do you agree with this suggestion? If so, we could add it as a suggestion to the form on the contact us page (which, by the way, we're trying to simplify).

I was surfing the net to find Ginger oil and Ginger cures when I came across your site. I think I have read all of the post and enjoyed everyone of them. If I had one negative comment it would be this, as newbie to your site I had difficulties reading some posts because some products and ailments were not spelled out and this made me loose my chain of thought while reading.

I picked up many helpful tips that I will put to good use.

I am a young 78 year old male who has believed in ACV (See its catching) for many years as my uncle would drink a shot glass full every morning, he lived until he was 90 with no ill health and died with a great completion, no wrinkles and soft skin.

Good Health,

EC: Thank you for your suggestions! We have started to do this on many of the incoming posts. In the meantime, we created a page to help people out:

Hello, love the site. Thank you. I wonder if you could include a page of alphabetised abbreviations? Myself, and I am assuming other readers, don't always what they are or maybe they differ from country to country. Would be very much appreciated if you can manage it.

EC: Here's a work in progress:

This message is to our beautiful community of EarthClinic readers: I believe it would be extremely helpful if we all make an effort to be more specific when we post a comment on a particular remedy. For example, there are so many Apple Cider Vinegar posts, that it would be helpful to know from the start, what ailment we are addressing. The title of the posts could read something like this: APPLE CIDER VINEGAR/INDIGESTION, or APPLE CIDER VINEGAR/GOUT, or APPLE CIDER VINEGAR/SCALP, or APPLE CIDER VINEGAR/ECZEMA, etc. In other words, when appropriate, let's not just use one or the other, but BOTH, combined!

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but I believe it would greatly help the reading audience following a particular remedy for a specific ailment. It seems to me it would also greatly help the dedicated EarthClinic's staff. I want to express my appreciation to the wonderful staff at EarthClinic for all the time and effort you put into running this awesome website. You all are doing a great job, and I am very thankful for it.

EC: Hi, Marea. Thanks for the great feedback. This is a programming issue that commenced when we went live with the new database in May. The title that shows up on the Latest Posts page is the same title that shows up on a particular ailment page (i.e., where the blue link takes you when you click on it).  Ergo why you see APPLE CIDER VINEGAR again and again on the latest posts page. It is very irritating, we agree! We'll have to ask the programmer for a fix to this issue since we don't have an ability to create one title for the Latest Posts page and another title for the ailments. Our genius web programmer built a customized database to look as much as possible like the old site (still available for viewing at but take 7 years of pasting posts on multiple pages to fit various categories by hand and then try and create programs to order all of this information.. He ran into a lot of tricky issues as you might imagine!

Dear Ted & Earth Clinic Team,
How about making a short You Tube clip so that we can add it to our list of favourites, and also forward the link to friends who can then do likewise. It's an amazingly effective way of spreading the WORD!
It doesn't have to be anything elaborate.
Thanking you for all your hard work!
Love & light,

EC: Thanks for the great suggestion, Annie. We discussed YouTube footage with Ted during one hilarious IM-ing session last winter. It's on our to do list. However, when someone writes in an idea we have for the site, we tend to move forward more quickly, so thanks for the nudge!

Ted will have to do a video clip in Bangkok and we'll have to do ours here in Atlanta, GA. Should be interesting...

I have used many remedies from this site and I suggest this website to my students.

What I would like to see is an effort towards raw food and raw food recipes. Raw food prevents most illnesses and helps lead a better in an environmentally friendly way. Which ties in neatly with the goals of 'Earth clinic'.

Thank you!

EC: Great idea, thank you! Got any recipes to send our way for the page?

We added some of our existing raw garlic, cabbage and apple posts to this new page.

You can find no-cook cook books in the book stores - I picked up one from a yard sale.

Site Comment: I have noticed that Ted's latest posts are not showing up at the top of the page as it used to do. I scroll down the page to find where he has (or others have) answered a question that was posted days or more before he has answered. Also, why does Ted not answer some of the questions posted? (or maybe EC could just leave a statement to "check here" if it was previously covered somewhere else.) I am just as interested in reading Ted's answer to a question that someone has posted as the person that posted it. Thanks.

EC: Thanks for your feedback. Last week we asked our programmer to fix the Latest Questions page so that the newest posts fall to the top of the page. The section will get fixed in the next few days, hopefully.

We email Ted most of the questions that are posted on the Latest Q&A page and he responds to some, but not all, of these questions.  Please let us know which question in particular you are interested in and we will ask him to reply...

First, I want to say thank you for all the efforts you have put into maintaining this valuable website. I do have a suggestion that I feel would make the website a whole lot easier to navigate. When I do a search, and the results come up, I end up having to read through many, many posts to finally get to what I was searching for. My suggestion is to have the search words highlighted in the results so it would be easier to find what I am looking for....thanks.

EC: Thank you for your feedback, Lisa! We absolutely agree with you. Our web designer is working on a new design and a better search feature for every page. There is also too much information on every page (a critique from a few professional web designers/programmers who checked out our site recently), so we need to fix that issue as well.

I've just been reading about aspartame and sweetners to see that there is an advert on the same page for Spenda. Is this to do with you - can you not get it removed. Or am I barking up the wrong tree.

EC: We can get it removed, but we need to know the website address (i.e., url) of the ad.

Posted by Lori (Helena, MT, USA) on 06/08/2008

obvious ad for removal

I (as I'm sure others) would find it very helpful if Earth Clinic could provide some kind of a glossary to help in understanding what some of the remedies that Ted suggests are. Also, what kind of store to find these in, what foods these are found in, etc. For example, call me dumb, but what is sodium carbonate? Thank you for your time in maintaining this great site.

EC: Great idea, thanks Daisy. We have something like this on our WHERE TO BUY page, but can certainly expand it.

Replied by James

Daisy. To not know is not dumb but to know something is not known and not to seek the answer could qualify as dumb. You asked so you are not dumb. When you have a question about something try google for it as in "sodium carbonate." You will get a large number of hits with some from Wikipedia. You can then read them for the answer that fits your situation. The Internet is an incredible source of good, and bad you have to decide, information.

Website Surveys

Posted by Earth Clinic on 08/27/2009

In the spirit of trying to improve the way content flows on Earth Clinic, we've just designed a very simple 5 question survey. Do you have 2 minutes to give us your feedback? These are questions we've been meaning to ask you for some time now and thought asking them all at once would be easiest for our busy contributors. There's also a text box at the end to send us your wish-list or voice any complaints you may have.

Here's the link to our survey:

Thank you so much!

P.S. We will share the survey results with you in a few days.
