Natural Remedies for Diabetes Type II

Diabetes type II rates are increasing worldwide at alarming rates. Diabetes is a serious health problem and can cause multiple secondary health problems. Natural remedies for diabetes type II include dietary changes, nutritional supplements, apple cider vinegar, milk kefir and exercise. Diabetes responds well to natural treatments for diabetes. Your health is worth making the effort to getting your diabetes under control.

Type II diabetes, sometimes known as adult onset diabetes, can usually be controlled with diet. Those with type II diabetes are not insulin dependent like those with type I diabetes. With type II diabetes, the body either does not produce enough insulin or isn't using it properly.

Symptoms of type II diabetes include frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, and visual problems.

Left untreated, type II diabetes can cause blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, nerve problems and even death.

What Causes Diabetes Type II?

Diabetes type II is usually connected to a poor diet and lack of exercise. It has also been linked to genetics.  Other things that may cause diabetes are infection, vaccinations and nutritional deficiencies.

Upon request from one of  our contributors, Earth Clinic has created a one question online survey regarding the causes of type II diabetes. If you have diabetes type II and would like to participate, you please use this link to get to the survey.

Natural Treatment of Diabetes Type II

Dietary Changes

A poor diet is usually a precursor to diabetes. Improving the quality of the diet will improve blood sugar levels and provide important nutrients needed for healing. Because each person is different, there may not be a "perfect" diabetes diet. You will need to work on improving your diet and watching your sugar levels to see how your own body handles different foods. For example, honey and blackstrap molasses are healthy sweeteners that seem to benefit some diabetics. Yet, other diabetics cannot tolerate them.

To begin with, diabetics need to reduce sugar and simple carbohydrate intake. If you consume a lot of sugar and carbs, you will need to dramatically reduce the sugar intake. Artificial sweeteners are not a good substitute for sugar as they bring a whole host of health issues with them. Switch to whole grain foods like brown rice, quinoa, and oatmeal. Whole grains should be part of the diet but not the bulk of it. Good proteins and good fats are important, too.

Good protein sources include beans, legumes, lean meats, tuna, salmon and cottage cheese.

Good fats include olive oil, coconut oil, and avocados.

Fruits and vegetables are important, too. Too much fruit can have a bad effect on blood sugar. Leafy greens, green beans, okra, broccoli and sweet potato are some great vegetables. Starchy vegetables like white potato should be eaten more moderately.

Fiber is also an important component to a healing diet. Flax seeds and chia seeds are good sources and can be added to a bowl of oatmeal or to  salads.

Supplements

A number of supplements have been found helpful for diabetics. Supplements help to provide nutrients to the body to make it work better. If you have had a poor diet or poor quality of food, your body is likely low in important nutrients. Supplements will do just that - supplement your diet.

  • Vitamin C
  • Chromium
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid
  • Vitamin D
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • B Complex
  • Selenium

Apple Cider Vinegar for Diabetes

Apple cider vinegar is a simple natural treatment for diabetes. Apple cider vinegar contains trace nutrients and helps to alkalize the body. It improves digestion and metabolism for many people.

Milk Kefir

The positive effect that milk kefir has had for some with diabetes would implicate that bacteria may be the cause of diabetes, at least for some. Milk kefir contains many probiotics which help to improve the bacterial balance in the system.

Cinnamon

Ceylon cinnamon has improved blood sugar levels for many diabetics. Ceylon cinnamon can be added to food or taken in capsules with meals. It helps the body to regulate blood sugar.

Herbs

A number of herbs may be helpful to diabetics. Herbs can help supply nutrients to the body, improve metabolism, and help regulate blood sugar.

  • Chanca Piedra
  • Banaba Leaf
  • Berberine
  • Turmeric
  • Yellow Dock
  • Ginger
  • Prickly Pear Cactus

Exercise

Exercise is helpful to most health conditions. Regular exercise is important for those with diabetes as well. Regular exercise helps to reduce glucose in the blood. It improves metabolism and circulation. If you are not used to exercise, start slowly. Begin with a couple of five minute walks each day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Try to increase the amount of activity you get each day until you are getting 30 minutes of exercise 4-5 days a week.

Cautions

There is no "one size fits all" solution for type II diabetes. When you are making changes to your diet and supplement routines, you will likely experience changes in your blood sugar. Carefully monitor your blood sugar levels so you will learn how the changes you are making affect you. Make changes one at a time. Ideally you will be working with your health care professional as well.

It is likely that you will need to make several changes to improve your diabetes. One supplement is not usually enough. Improving your diet, getting some exercise and taking herbs or supplements will work together to bring you back to good health.

ACV, Garlic, Ginger, Lemon heart disease tonic:

I'm an internist in NJ. I've tried this concoction on a limited number of patients and found that it did not reduce their cholesterol levels, but it does reduce glucose levels.

So now I am suggesting this to my diabetic or borderline diabetic patients. Will have more experience and results in a few months.

Will you be willing to share the amounts in the ingredients of this concoction? I am having issues maintaining stable blood sugar levels despite low-gi diet, exercise and green veggie juice.

Thanks!

Tina, some of my patients have used a premixed concoction they purchased overseas, but the correct home remedy (based upon direct interviews with several people who regularly make this concoction) appears to be to cook the 4 cups of ingredients (1 cup each of ACV, lemon juice, ginger juice and garlic juice) on medium flame down to 3 cups (which usually takes 30 minutes), then add 2-3 cups of organic honey (some have mentioned 1 cup).

3-4 tablespoons need to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach. About 15-30 minutes should pass before eating anything else, depending upon how fast one's digestion and metabolism is.

Hope that helps.

Would it work as well to use the raw juices and not cook them down? The cooking kills the enzymes. It seems logical that raw would work better, to me. Am I missing something?

Hi Wanda,

My late partner had type two for like over 20 yrs before we got together. In 2015 he was diagnosed with bowel cancer, but I'd like to share a part of our story with the hope that it helps you too.

We heard about black seed oil (nigella sativa), so I started to do some research and we both started taking it. I took maintenance dose and he slowly increased to a higher dose.
The black seed oil (BSO) helped a lot, at times he could go without his insulin. If he wasn't on chemo, he could have controlled it a lot easier. It also helped with his liver and immune.

Black seed oil has the potential to cure everything they say. It's proven to help me in my digestive problems, OA pain, sinuses, dry eyes and prevents colds and flu's and keeps my immune strong.

There are plenty of studies and articles on BSO.

WHAT IS THE BEST BSO?

Diabetes can be reversed in about 2 months. It's a vitamin/ mineral deficiency of chromium and vanadium. Check out Dr Joel Wallach YouTube or Dr Peter Glidden.

Big Pharma is using you as an ATM machine and you'll never be cured just managed. Stop eating carbs / sugar - that's feeds the cancer cells you have in your body. Give your body what it needs to heal itself because God made us that way.

Chromium and Vanadium Supplements

Posted by Bill Thompson (Philippines) on 05/23/2018

In response to Mark's post on the Food Grade Peroxide page:

Posted by Mark (Rancho Cucamonga, California) on 03/14/2018

Hello to all of the Healthy family, I started Monday 3/12/2018 with 3 drops in 6 ounces of DISTILLED WATER 3 times on the FIRST day and I feel much better after just 3 days. No more diabetes pain in my arms and shoulders. A1C dropping with each drink. I am living proof HP works, I'm starting my wife and daughters on it next week because I have more problems than they do and I wanted to see if woks or not. Two thumbs up is what I'm giving it.

Hi Mark...There was some major research breakthroughs on diabetes and blood sugar problems in the 1950s. This research has been successfully surpressed for decades. What they found was that both vanadium and chromium, as essential trace minerals in your diet, are necessary to maintain proper insulin sensitivity, which means that both these minerals act together with insulin to help escort the glucose from the blood into the cells. If there is a lack of chromium in the diet and too much unmanaged sugar in the blood longterm then this will cause serious peripheral blood flow problems and heart problems.

The research I read showed that when people who had pre-diabetes or diabetes conditions took either chromium or vanadium then they were either outright cured or, at least, were able to greatly reduced their diabetes meds.

Clinical studies on chromium picolinate supplementation in diabetes mellitus--a review.

The chromium picolinate dosage recommended by The US Institute of Medicine is only 25 to 30 mcg per day which is way too small. According to the successful older research, men can safely take up to 2000 mcg of chromium per day whereas women must take no more than 1000 mcgs per day.

Since you also have constant high blood sugar(ie you have insulin sensitivity issues) which is dangerous, I would recommend that you take the above protocol. Take 1000 mcg chromium per day with meals. I would also take Chanca piedra tea or Chanc piedra extract (500mg) twice a day which will also help to balance your blood minerals properly.

As a matter of interest, I've managed to lose alot of weight in the last year without having to exercise vigorously. I was 190 lbs and have dropped my weight down to below 170 lbs with little effort. The herbs I was taking which had the best weight-loss effect were milk thistle (500 mgs once a day after a meal), alpha lipoic acid (600mgs/day), chromium (800 mcgs once a day after a meal), resveratrol (150mgs - japanese knotweed form as recommended by John Buhner) and B100 complex once every 3 days taken with a meal. So don't be too surprised if you start losing some weight when you start taking the chromium.

EC: For those who don't know much about Vanadium,

https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-749/vanadium

Vanadium is a mineral. It was named for the Norse goddess of beauty, Vanadis, because of its beautiful colors...

Vanadium is used for treating prediabetes and diabetes, low blood sugar, high cholesterol, heart disease, tuberculosis, syphilis, a form of "tired blood" (anemia), and water retention (edema); for improving athletic performance in weight training; and for preventing cancer.

Diet Changes for Insulin Resistance

I hope this bumps the topic from 2015 because this is the biggest discovery I've ever made regarding my health issues, and curing many of them already. I only discovered Insulin Resistance (IR) through Youtube videos while trying to find "fixes" for my newly diagnosed T2 Diabetes. I found how to cut out the carbs (lower them) and eat more protein, and fats (YES, fats! Good healthy fats). I've lost 15 lbs the healthy way and it's taken me 5 months of being right on with my foods, but a bit lacking in my exercise. Usually only 2 times a week, for 30 minutes.

IR is something I am learning more about now, and realize I have probably had it for maybe, most of my life. I am 68 now. The doctors I've had over the years never once told me I was pre-diabetic, maybe because they never checked, and I've never been told I need an Insulin lab done. Conventional medicine does not usually call for that as far as I know. I believe Insulin Resistance is the beginning, and Type 2 Diabetes is one result of having it.

More later if anyone is interested.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds to control and possibly reverse Diabetes

My Health background: I take Metformin 500mg twice a day for Diabetes, I take heart medicine after a Cardiac Arrest due to a choked artery in April 2022, I take ACV for controlling Uric Acid along with anti-inflammation medicine Cholchicine 0.6 mg twice a day. Age 65 yrs old.

Improvement in Diabetes discovered by accident:

Before starting this alternate treatment, my morning fasting sugar reading was 125-130mg/dL for the last 3 1/2 years. Started taking Fenugreek seeds 1 teaspoon soaked in water equivalent to 1 glass of water put in a regular basic clay container/cup/jar for 24 hour (If prefer to keep it for 48 hours before consuming. I found it to be more effective) . This quantity I take just before each meal( that is 3 times a day). I bought my clay container from a Pakistani Halal grocery store here in the USA. The way I consume is to drink the water which will have a golden color. Then chew the seeds and chase it with some regular water. The taste is like eating celery (like raw vegetable with a slight bitter taste).

Diabetes morning fasting 1st week came down to 103mg/dL. 2nd week 95mg/dL.

I am in my 2nd week now. After 2 hours of consuming afternoon meals, it has dropped from a range of 180-200mg/dL to 140-150mg/dL after consuming fenugreek seeds. This is only taking Fenugreek seeds and no medicine (metformin).

By the way, I have added about a pinch of Black seeds in my Fenugreek seeds drink for overall health. I hope this info is helpful.

I take 1 whole glass of water before meal using Fenugreek seeds (Methi Dana). In addition I would like to mention that I am taking 4 TBSP of Apple Cider Vinegar 3 times a day in a full glass of water (add 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey) for my Uric Acid (gout) reduction. and drinking garlic/ginger tea. These things also are contributing in improving my diabetes reading. Blood pressure, Uric Acid and Cholesterol are all interrelated. I hope this info helps.

Soak 3 teaspoons of Fenugreek Seeds in 3 glasses of water for 24 hours. Then consume each glass of this water with 1 teaspoon before meal. Important thing to note is to chew the seeds for at least 1 minute in your mouth while holding the slight bitter fluid that comes out of the seeds. After about 1 minute swallow these seeds with regular water. Update: my morning fast readings vary between 81 mg/dl to 95 mg/dl (average around 90 mg/dl) And this is without any diabetic medication.

My diet includes stir fried chicken with vegetables, fruit, salad, egg and I take food 3 times a day. For example I will take 2 eggs omelet or boiled eggs in the morning with fruit. In the afternoon I can take stir fried chicken with stir fried vegetables. At night I can take stir fried meat with salad. Just mix and match but don't overdo in your eating. Quantity has to be reasonable. For oil I use olive oil/Alva cardo oil. Also when I want to deviate from this food only once in a while that is consuming high carbohydrate food including sweet desert, then I take 2 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds soaked in 1 glass of water before meal. My diabetes does not vary much. When you deviate in your food check your blood sugar before and after such meal. This will show you how much can you deviate for next time. I don't encourage this and not responsible for anything. I am only mentioning what I practice.

Fenugreek seeds control absorption of carbohydrate into the blood stream based on my research and experience.

Further Update:

When I feel like deviating from your control diet once in a while by eating food that can cause the diabetes sugar to jump. Then I take 2 teaspoon of Fenugreek seeds in one glass of water 3 times a day using the above mentioned procedure. This approach can also be used for individuals who have very high diabetic sugar levels. Keep in mind you can take Fenugreek seeds/drink as many times in the day you want. Just balance the intake of this with your diabetic sugar levels. Chewing of the seeds for 1 to 2 minutes is very important. The light bitter liquid that comes out of the seeds should remain in your mouth, acting as a sublingual medicine for quick absorption in your bloodstream. This has been my experience.

Hello Folks, yes it's me again!!

Do I hear groaning in the background - tut tut?

Would you like the bad news first?

If you do nothing else for your good self to-day, you really ought to listen to this lady-she has an important message to deliver.

If you sincerely believe that your health's future and that of your family is in your hands, then at least listen to what she has to say on the subject of early-onset diabetes or type 2 diabetes or whatever you choose to call it. Apparently, it is something that doesn't just affect other people! There's a surprise!

I have mentioned before on this Site that I struggle with an over-fondness for bread, which I find is hard to deal with, even though I am just a teeny weeny bit overweight (and certainly not obese). I just want to be pro-active with this issue before it gets on top of me. I need more won't power obviously! Obesity leads to a whole host of other health problems.

At the risk of sounding like a cracked, old gramophone record, as we get older we have more such issues to deal with (increased tendency to put on the pounds etc). Like the old adage "Until you are forty, your liver looks after you: after forty, you need to look after your liver". After all, who else will do so?

I think Dr. Grundy has a lot to say on this subject and would also be worth tuning into for additional information.

We all like our carbs I guess but perhaps we should start treating them with more respect or maybe a jaundiced eye?

Anyway, it's not all Doom, Gloom and Despondency, the Good Doctor Sarah Hallberg has a hopeful and encouraging message at the end, which I will leave for her to articulate.

Cheers and Good Health to you from Down Under

Losing weight is easy. Cut carbs. What are carbs - bread, rice, pasta, sugar, cereals, cookies, cakes, ice cream. Anything with sugar.

There are delicious carb free options these days.

Jason Fung explains why you cannot lose weight and insulin resistance. If this is why you fried your metabolism by overindulging on above.

Hi MIchael!

I solved my bread problem! Real sourdough bread. I found a place that makes the real deal (apparently, all of the stuff you buy at the market isn't really sourdough). It's kind of expensive but the benefit is two-fold. I can eat bread with ZERO problems - which I haven't done since they started adding even MORE gluten - while the expense keeps me from eating too much. I also learned how to make it which would have the same effect - even though it's the simplest bread you can make, who wants the oven on in the summer? Plus, it freezes beautifully and, if you make your own, you can slice it really, REALLY thin - and I prefer thin sliced bread.

Good to know, thanks, Cindy. I became slightly obsessed this summer with sourdough bread after avoiding gluten for a long time. Trader Joe's has a tasty loaf I started buying. Whole Foods also carries a couple of yummy brands - a French version and a San Francisco version. So in investigating different loaves of sourdough, my one slice a day MAX quickly turned into one slice with every meal because sourdough tastes so good. Soon enough, I added another slice for a mid-day snack because I just couldn't get enough of it! BAD, BAD, BAD!! I turned into a total zombie!!! I was tired all day long!! I am surprised I could get anything done. Quite sure I did quite a number on my blood sugar.

The good news is that I went cold turkey recently and can report that my energy levels went back to normal immediately.

If I can find a bakery that makes the real sourdough deal, I may buy a loaf, but I think it might be better if sourdough stays off my radar! 😳

Hi Deirdre! I haven't tried all of the breads you mention but Trader Joe's isn't true sour dough. I don't think there are any true sour dough commercial breads.

I have no idea why they're allowed to label them as such. Of course, it's obvious why they would WANT to call them sour dough but...why it's allowed, I have no idea.

Hi - as you like it so much, and know what type your system can tolerate, why don't you make your own? It takes about a week to make the 'starter' but after that you've got it - if you cant bake at all you can use a breadmaker, although it is quite easy to make it when you have a bit of practice.

HI U OLE PATOOTS,,,,,,,,,, some better, but got my DNA report and I have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peeling. The test shows that I do have the covid virus, but is now not transmissible. My Integrative doctor says that this the worst thing he has seen in his medical career and he's 75. He says it attacks all your organs and slowly takes you down. My entire system is on rock bottom and he says it is because of this virus. He uses herbal drops with the frequencies of toxins that are in your body.

I asked about Jardiance because my Nurse Practitioner had not seen me in a year and just learned that I am in CHF. She said to get off ACTOS for my diabetes because it helps cause CHF by accumulating fluid around your heart.

I have lost 26 # in a month by using a stronger diuretic and sleeping in a new bed where I can elevate my feet and head. I also use a professional vibrator from head to toe every morning. I only use gold toe socks and not my medical leggings to keep my lymph system flowing and legs skinny. If anyone has a tale to tell about the effectiveness of Jardiance, I am all ears. Want to hang around long enough to see if the white hats or black hats win in this good vs evil thing.

This year we have the garden of all gardens. A retired Pharmacist is helping us as she is gung ho Organic and does not trust the system. She is 66 and is like us working a young kid. She just has never been down this trail, but is a delight. Today, she learned how to side dress corn. She and my Tractor Driver bond.

ORH! What about Ivermectin and the other one...hydroxy something. Been working for some here. Ever try baking soda in water? Especially at bedtime? Keeping an eye on you!

Hey there ORH -

Glad to see you are posting again but saddened to hear of your worsening health.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Jardiance for diabetes.

However, high-dose Vitamin C (IV is probably best at this point) will help with so many things - including diabetes, congestive heart failure and Covid.

Is it a cure-all? Nope - there isn't such a thing but I think, in addition to all the other things you are doing, the right amount of Vitamin C will definitely help.

Here is a copy of the Clinical Guide to the Use of Vitamin C by Frederick Klenner, MD. The amount of Vitamin C used depends on the severity of the disease.

I believe that you still have good health care people that you trust. Maybe now is the time to get regular high-dose Vitamin C IVs.

Wishing you all the best,

Tessa

"We have demonstrated that Metadichol (NANO SOMA's active ingredient) is useful in both type 1 and two diabetes and in modulating insulin levels and reducing sugar levels and thus increasing insulin sensitivity"

From: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/330928900_Metadichol_R_A_Novel_Nano_Lipid_GPR_120_Agonist

NANO SOMA is a nano-emulsion of policosanol, commonly found in unrefined foods such as rice and cane sugar. Nano-policosanol, patented as Metadichol, triggers the body to heal itself. It seems to reverse many age-related diseases and pathogen-related diseases. There are numerous scientific studies on this seemingly miraculous natural particle. There are also many testimonials on the site.

Amazing product that everyone should know about. I've had long standing health issues for the past 23 years due to mould, and this is fixing them all.

Metformin and Berberine for Type II:

Metformin and berberine are great regulators. They won't cure but will keep u happy. Metformin is officially a prescription drug BUT according to Life Extension.com (which is by far the leading science-based magazine and supplement maker in the world) have hundreds of pages and reference hundreds of studies demonstrating the health producing and life extending properties of metformin even though this Rx competes with their products!!

I'm currently on Metformin, have been for years, dr is wanting me to start another rx - Januvia. I have declined... I started taking Berberine, its a 1 day capsule (250mg) but I haven't seen a difference yet in 4 days.... does it need to build up, what is the best dose?

My evening sugars are the biggest problem, usually over 250- 280 no matter what I seem to eat(and I have made changes!! )...mornings are under 150. very discouraged.... I am suffering alot of pain in several areas, neck/shoulder, arthritis in my thumb joint, and Achilles tendonitis wondering if this is what affects it

any help appreciated

Hi Kathy,

Berberine has shown good benefit in diabetes type 2 studies using 500 mg up to 1500 mg per day. Here is a review article that should help you get on track:

https://www.integrativepro.com/articles/berberine-benefits-and-dosing-recommendations

Another consideration is thiamine in the form called Benfotiamine which has shown benefit in diabetes type 2.

If you haven't already read P. Raghavan's postings on diabetes on Earth Clinic, you should! Here is one link:

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in January of this year, 2021. I set to work searching for answers/healing through videos of Doctors on the subject, nutrition, EC, just everything I could get my hands on for alternatives to drugs they wanted me to take. I started by emptying my cupboard of carbs/sugars but had a good understanding of the fruits and vegies that were low-carb. I won't go into what I eat exactly because I think the macronutrients are most important, and the amounts of, Proteins, Fats, Carb percentages of my daily diet.

70% Fats (good fats) or 113 grams

20% Protein or 73 grams

10% Carbs or 36 grams (I usually just keep this below 50 grams)

I am way not perfect, but I try to be in the ball-park and one thing I do is weigh my foods, I know my BMI, and my Total Daily Energy Expenditure. Mine is about 1450. Another story if anyone wants to know.

So my numbers were pretty high on the diagnosis in January, 7.4 mmol/l or 134 mg/dl. Maybe to some of you that is low but it is considered Diabetic so I hit the ground running. I was scared. My numbers gradually decreased, and my last HbA1c was very good at 6.2 mmol/l (safe range is 4.2 to 5.7). Today I'm getting numbers no higher than 6.0, and recently numbers like 5.4 and 5.2.

As a side benefit, I've lost 16 lbs. I don't miss the sugar at all, have learned to bake with Almond Flour, and I like Stevia as a sweetner in my coffee. Real Stevia by Purisure. Dr. Berg's videos have helped me the most, and also, Dr. Benjamin Bikman on Insulin Resistance which I'm convinced I had long before the T2 came along.

I so hope someone else is helped by this, Denise

PS I really don't exercise enough, but as my energy increases due to diet changes I've already made, and my body rejuvenates itself through those changes, I expect to be doing more. I am 68 and headed for a camping trip (tent-camping) with a friend to one of our Oregon lakes for a week of kayaking and just enjoying the outdoors with some friends, and my little dog Mimmie ;)

PSS forgot to mention my supplements: Magnesium, B Vitamins, C, D3, E, ALA, Taurine, Zinc
